He passes forward more than any of our other CBs though. He hasn't been as good at that this season, but in general that's one of his better attributes.
He's not if he can find some form very quickly.
In the video where he talks about his philosophy he actually said defenders don't need to be fast, they just need to coached in tight marking.
Lindelof is a much better passer than him, he is also doesn't go to shit for the first 4 months of a season.
Does he ? I am very bad for recency bias, I'll take your word for it. The slowness thing is harder to coach out of his game at any rate!

Bringing the ball out occasionally doesn't necessarily make him a good or efficient passer though. Lindelof is much stronger in that regard
Can't say I can really remember Maguire doing that well, even when in form.
He's your classic English hardy defender playing for a coach who is a world away from that. Lindelof and Varane seem well suited to Rangnick.
A very exciting appointment - can't wait to see what he can do with this squad. The likes of Sancho, Bruno and Rashford will do well for him I think. I am also delighted for Donny as I think he'll actually get a run in the team now. Rangnick seems to value technical players who are good on the ball so he'd fit that system. He could be like a new player for us. I am still concerned that we lack a decent CDM who could play beside him in the midfield. Maybe a Fred-Donny midfield two could be the way forward?

He explained in his video he doesnt mind slow CBs. His CB is expected to man mark the opposition attacker tightly. Whether Maguire can do that job our not is another story
Tuchel and Klopp were forged by Ralf’s style. He’s going to get the best out of this team. The reason for that is because Ole instilled the pressing mindset without the pressing know how.

I agree Lindelof is in better form right now and if Varane gets fit Maguire will have to work really hard if he wants to stay in the starting 11.
Had not any success ? He bought a village team to Bundesliga. Imagine a manager/DoF taking Salford City to Premier League. That is just one example of his achievement.

The best thing that can be said about this is that is not like United all over the past few years to appoint someone like this.
Definitely pleased with Rangnick sticking around for 2 years afterwards for some continuity too, as I thought the idea of bringing in someone for 6 months only to wave goodbye and scrap everything they've been doing was daft. Still think we'll go for Poch personally (could be Ten Haag of course) but hopefully he'll take forward the same ideas.

As a Milan fan it feels like I've already seen my club managed by Rangnick.
He even commented on which players he will rely on and which ones won't be a part of his plans.
Zlatan and Kjaer, two key players that revived the club along with Pioli, would've been released immediately because they were too old for him and his tactical approach which require a lot of running and pressing.
Ronaldo is no better than Zlatan in that sense. I can't see Rangnick tolerate that for more than the remaining months of this season.

Ronaldo is Ronaldo. I fail to see why Ragnick would be as rigid as to drop him just because he doesn't press like a mad animal. It's also not really a problem if your main goalscorer doesn't press. Salah and Mane aren't the biggest pressers around and Lukaku certainly doesn't press. All Ronaldo needs to do is cut the passing lanes to their defenders and just let him do his thing.

I'm really not sure this is true at all. They press quite a lot don't they? Ronaldo wouldn't press at all was my working assumption, though he did quite a lot against VillaReal so wtf do I know.

I share the sentiment. The United of old would have paid Leicester to take Rodgers or stick with Carrick until end of season.

Salah and Mane are average pressers, they'll press but they're nothing spectacular. Lukaku doesn't press at all. I'm also pleasantly surprised by Ronaldo - in the past few matches he has tracked back a lot.

Rangnick made this exact point about Salah and Mane being 'natural ball winners' and it's the job of the coach to teach them. They do it now of course because they see the effect

Ole was a one-off. He came in as caretaker and nobody expected him to sign a longer contract. But the players fell in love with him and our biggest asset, Pogba, seemed re-born. It would have been a bigger risk not to sign Ole at that point.
You can't use the Solksjaer example as the template for the way United operate, any more than you can use Dan James or Cristiano Ronaldo as the template for the way United buy players. It would be like saying Chelsea operate the same way because of what happened with Lampard.
