Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

Exactly, so why did the players give up at 3-1? You think that was Ralf's half time team talk? "If they score two more goals, just fecking give up lads, you're all shit anyway"

Pep, notorious for tactical changes during games, made a few adjustments and Ralf had no answer for them.

The players ran out of energy because they were chasing shadows due to Rangnick's tactical ineptness.

You can't continually press with intensity and then counter attack and then press again with intensity, it's impossible.

We needed to keep the ball better and we didn't.

You can't tell me Lampard had better players at his disposal or Viera will next week, the table doesn't lie at this stage of the season.

Yesterday was unacceptable, simple as and the performance is the responsibility of the manager.

 Pep has had 6 years and over £1b. It would be a fecking disgrace if he got out played by a bloke who has been here a few months and not had a bean to spend.

I think Rangnick has done the brave thing and shown what a successful team should look like. Even if the team can't maintain it for the full game. As opposed to cowardly way of playing -counter attack. Yes we are being found out. But better know earlier than later right? Now we know which players can't stand on their own in a proper non-counter attacking team. So get rid.
This is crap. You can argue that more counter attacking teams have won CL titles in the last two decades. Real Madrid, Chelsea, United, AC Milan, Inter… How is that cowardly??? Honestly, the snobbery towards counter attacking football on this forum is an absolute laugh. SAF was absolutely a believer in counter attacking football. Even Ralf and all his acolytes believe in counter attacking — it’s his entire thesis — attack quickly before the opponent’s defense recovers. He added in the counter press (which Saatchi was doing anyhow in the late 80s with the Milan teams), but it’s not that much different when playing in the defensive half without possession.

Any change from zero coaching (Ole) to intense coaching (Ralf) was clearly going to be a long term project. Why he has been brought in for only 6 months I have no idea.

If the next manager has a similar philosophy then it could be worth this short term pain for long term gain. But if we do another knee jerk and hire a coach with a totally different style (again) then the whole interim manager idea is another clusterfeck from the board!

Both Ten Hag and Poch whilst having different style will both benefit from Rangnick being here first. They both press heavily but in different ways. Going from 0 pressing to whatever style they instil with just a preseason would have been a nightmare, but at the very least you can see us trying things. The second half was abysmal yesterday. BUT the way we started is the way we need to be. On the front foot, good passing, good movement. If we can see this growing then whoever comes in next has a much better starting point.

CV? What have the players won themselves apart from Ronaldo and Varane to judge a manager’s CV? This is why i am worried that if Ten Hag comes in, the players will be stepping on him no sooner telling him and the press he’s only won a Dutch league tinpot

Joker, where did I say he should out play City?

I just said if Everton can give City a tough game then we should be able to as well.

Watch on Monday, Palace will make life for City much, much harder than we did yesterday.

He's in a no-win situation really. Part of his remit was to be a transitional manager who would start to get the squad ready for the next guy by organizing the absolute tactical shambles of the Ole era and introducing some more modern tactics. But he doesn't have the players to really do it, especially in midfield and at the back. Arteta spent the first 18 months of his time in management dealing with the same issue, with players that were even worse and less suited for his tactics. What do you do when you know that the only way for the club to progress is to learn to play with a much more modern set of tactics but you simply don't have the players to do it effectively? Its like the chicken and egg question. You can start playing those tactics but if you're playing a high line and aggressive counter-press with Luiz and Mustafi (or Maguire and Lindelof) or you're trying to play out of the back but that system puts critical passing responsibilities on the likes of Elneny and Bellerin (or MacTominay and Wan Bissaka) at CM and RB then you're fecked. On the other hand, if you just try to scrape results until you can change the players, then you're not really going anywhere or building anything. I think United is better off with Rangnick introducing the new tactics, even if the results suffer a bit in the short term. The next manager will certainly be in a better position.

Agreeing with arsenal fan.

I am not sure honestly what this guy did to make people falling in love with him and getting him off the hook for whatever kind of performance he set us play. He obviously have huge fanbase somehow.

Football management is not only theoretical tactical setup, you have human beings there that you should speak with, explain what they should do, and also judge if they can do what you want. From what I can see, those players are absolutely lost on the field, our positional setup is comedy, it is not suitable for U10 team. No running patterns, they can't even execute counter anymore, and people saying it is great tactic cause they are chasing the ball in rivals half as headless chicken losing all energy so they are not capable to finish chances after that or do anything with the ball if they win possession. He is here for 3 months already, I can't see absolutely any improvement, and I am sure we won't see it as those players don't have physics or mentality to play that kind of football, even if they are trained well. Their body is not made for that, their point of gravity is not suitable for high pressing, and their close technique is not on that level. We have bought players not to play high pressing but to play fast, direct football and use spaces to run on defenders and behind lines. Ole knew that, and his team was playing great football when they are fully fit (not enough this year of course). Ralf doesn't know that obviously, and pretty obviously can't get the best from those players.

I am not saying players are not the guilty ones, they have to give their best whatever is going on in the club. But, also they are human beings and whatever happens around affect them. They are terrible selected in terms of dealing with pressure, in term of ball control and technique, and also not selected for high pressing game new manager wants them to play. Also, many of them not with high football IQ and none of them bar McT willing to go in tackle for a 50:50 ball (AWB likes to tackle, but not those kind of balls). For me, our scouts should first look at those things: hard working, football IQ, technique, passing and ball control, capable to run and recover, dealing with pressure. It looks like the first thing they look for is how good freestylers they are and number of followers on social media. But at the end you can't change 20 players in one transfer window so they are here to stay and with their salaries this is what we have for next 5-6 years.

I don’t think it matters who’s in charge right now. Top management couldn’t do anything with this shower, it’s one of the saddest teams we’ve had in years and clearly there’s no sense of leadership on or off the pitch with most of the players looking unfit and miserable. Something has to change and a mass clear out wouldn’t be a bad idea come the summer.

That coincidentally joined the forum after Ole became the manager.

If you want to see recent positive things from me, go to the Sancho thread.
Are you saying that you can't be a fan if you're not on redcafe?

Sorry to burst your bubble, sunshine, but some of us have been United supporters before the Internet became a thing...
And the redcafe is giving less and less reasons to stick around with its toxicity too, so you better accept that there is a whole world outside the browser.

Of course you can. But if you look at his posts during Ole's reign, you can see why I m saying this. The guy joined just to spam how Ole is the greatest manager of all time.

I'd love to know how it's Raif fault they drew to Burnley and Watford after having about 4 or 5 clear chances to score.

Just shows the mindset of the players at the club these days. Chips are down, throw the dummy out.

Players like Lingard who are known to be leaving and don't offer anything shouldn't even be in the squad now. I'd sooner see us blood plenty of youngsters and give them a chance under the new manager.

I thought under Ole we was onto something, a nice bunch of lads who we can get behind through thick and thin... Turns out they're all a bunch of wankers and I would happily see the lot of them sold off and the likes of Elanga promoted and played every week.

Ole shielded them and they still threw him under the bus. I know ole wasn't the best coach available but not tracking back or running is down on the players regardless of the manager.

No manager can succeed unless the snake pit is cleared out.

Are you suggesting that people shouldn't take every word they read as the truth, no matter how questionable the source? Absolute madness!!
I mean I don't mind taking note of stuff like that, but what really gets on my nerves is if people start going off into whole theories and discussions of consequences based on obvious trash sources (epitomized by posts starting with "If true, we should.."). Pages upon pages, and before you know it what started out as a complete trash piece has crept into the fundament of what people think.

Go on then, who should he have started ahead of maguire yesterday ?

Me, my 11 year old son, my 14 year old daughter, Mejbri, Bailly, Jones, Dalot, Mata, Henderson, Phelan, Fletcher, Fergie.

Exactly. People form deep rooted opinions based on the words of people whose job it is to create content. Create being the key word

I know it's the Sun, but there are so many pieces like this lately, you'd think that there may be a slither of the truth to it, all be it, more than likely embellished to sell papers. Coupled with Ronaldo's "hip flexor" issue.

I was once all optimistic and hoped the players actually like playing for the club, but after seeing the 2nd half against City, where it looked like they just gave up. I know it's not possible but I'd like to have 6 out and 6 in, in the Summer.

I do not understand why Ralf persists with Lingard. He has clearly checked out of Manutd. He is not trying, he is not bothered.

I would rather us give his minutes to Mejrbi or the like, build for next season.

I was actually saying to myself early in during the game that pogba pressing is going to be terrible. The guy has a pass but cannot work at all.

Lingard as well is leaving in summer so he should be nowhere near the squad.

I can understand if he's trying to work out who to keep and who to get rid off i.e. if we are transitioning into a high pressing unit next season he wants to see who can handle it or not... but think everyone could see it from a mile off that Pogba would struggle in that regard (even in his prime let alone now).

Agreed. Makes no sense to keep the poison in and around the first team.

Didn't know where to put this. Just look at our work rate in defending. How can any manager fix this? We are basically out numbered around our own 6 yard box. This is going to take multiple years to fix.

I'd love to know how it's Raif fault they drew to Burnley and Watford after having about 4 or 5 clear chances to score.

And those performances were acceptable, sometimes you don't always get the result you deserve in football.

But Everton put up a better fight against City and Spurs just put 5 past them.

No way Everton should be doing better against City than us and that doesn't bode well for the rest of the season.

The performance on Saturday was unacceptable and that's down to the manager. Simple as.

Our board has put Ralf in a difficult situation when they decided not to back him in Jan window. Players have smelt blood and are out to undermine him in the press in whatever way they can.

Its always someone else's fault. That's the mentality of our squad. That's why we need to tear it up and start over.

You can't do anything with a group that's so divided, so disloyal, so disinterested. Bring new players into this environment and they'll just pick up all its bad habits and get dragged down into the mud with the rest of them.

Rangnick's not been perfect but, by God, he's done enough. We're just not up to it on so many levels.

They need to get rid of the troublemakers. Stop there being cliques in the dressing room. Get younger hungrier footballers with a manager who can develop them. Let the team grow together.

I don't get that part either. Especially with Mejbri in the squad. Better these minutes go to him or Diallo no?

Doesn't make sense to me, well once we get knocked out the CL and top 4 is no longer within reach, I hope none of the players who do not have a long term future play this season.

There comes a point where the constant bs tweets and wum articles/posts have zero effect.

United lost to City because City are a better team.

Done! move on to the next game.

Some of it might be that the kids are not looking for a new club. Ralf told Jesse and Pogba they could showcase themselves to other clubs. Jesse is going on a free and he really is not doing himself any favours. You wonder with the apparent carry ons that club might be put off wanting them disrupting their dressing rooms.

Go on then, who should he have started ahead of maguire yesterday ?
I'd play Jones ahead of him at this point or take someone from the reserve team. I'm sick of that Super Mario slab head. He needs to eat sunflower to power up.
