Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

This is a good appointment if it happens.
 
I'm excited. Looking forward to see the changes he makes. Done some good work in the past and has plenty of resources here

However, you don't have any power to force decisions or to implement your ideas, if the board doesn't want. As you the word says you are consulting but aren't actually managing and taking decisions.
Knowing Rangnick's strive to total control and power, I'm quite surprised Rangnick agreed to just a consulting role.

The reports say it's a role which gives him decision making power.
 
Seems like a brilliant bit of business by the club im excited

The sporting director role in the coming years is the sweetener finally somebody behind the scenes that can make football decisions and knows what they're talking about this should be huge for the club

Just a bit annoying that he will barely have any time to train the players seeing as it will be a huge change of styles during a very busy time. Shame he didn't get the international break to train the squad and implement his style a bit more.

Just hope he can get enough training time to smash Arsenal next week.
 
I think he’ll being in another couple of coaches along with his assistant and keep Carrick. McKenna will move back down unless he decides to move on and Phelan will get a new non-coaching role.
 
looks like he's going to be in charge for 6 months then step into a consultants role to handle the football side of the business....which we desperately need so Ed can go feck off
 
This should have been done after the Liverpool game but it is what it is, at least it's a good first step from a board that has been absolutely diabolical since Sir Alex left.

I hope the 2 year role he is supposedly getting is not just for show but an actual important one. We need someone with the understanding of the game like him to give advice and have a say on crucial decisions like transfers and managers in etc.

No I think the cumulative effect of years of bad decsions has set in to such an extent that the club actually improving on that front can't be acknowledged by some.

Yeah they got it wrong giving Ole a new contract but as I said no club gets it right all the time. That bad decision doesn't mean the whole management is still a shitshow.

Yes Varane and Sancho were seemingly good signings but the once again we neglected central midfield and seemingly passed up the chance to raise funds for these areas by refusing to sell lingard and / or pogba for realistic amounts.

The idea that the running of the club is getting better is ridiculous. This appointment seems positive but it will take a lot more to convince me that the club is now on the right track. He is currently only due to be a consultant post his interim period so ed / richard arnold could easily ignore his advice and almost every key role in the club is still taken up by a novice

Well this is what I mean. The mere suggestion the club has improved its decision making has got you all worked up. Lots of fans have dug themselves into this position and nothing that happens now will change it.

You can't just sell Lingard and Pogba when both are nearing the end of their contracts. Not that simple. Not getting a DM is a mistake but that's on Ole. He was given a brilliant summer by the club and has in fact been provided with transfer support any manager would dream of.

Now yeah a mistake in extending Ole just like Chelsea giving Lampard the job. But they've now rectified it and have got the best interim manager possible. If this is followed up by Ten Hag in the summer I think it would be ok to give the club a bit of credit.

I've seen you post quite a bit about the club structure which I've enjoyed reading.

How do you see RR sliding into that at the end of the season? Essentially working alongside side Murtough?

I have agreed with much of what you've posted with regards to the actual structure of the club behind the scenes improving despite the constant doom and gloom on here. You can see it's something being worked on so for me this appointment is quite special and shows we are totally committed to a plan and continuing to support its development.

He wouldn't have taken it if it wasn't a genuine role by all accounts.

He rejected Chelsea as they wanted him short term. He's a project man.

It's only really those who think a high press is just forwards running at defenders like a mad dog (Tevez) that think Ronaldo will be an issue.

Ronaldo won't be expected to chase the CB he'll be there to close lanes when the rest push up and be ready to pounce. He'll do it very well as he doesn't switch off and expects the ball to be won.

The international break where 90% of our first team squad were away on international duty. I'm not sure he could of achieved much in that time in all honesty.

I believe when you want to be the best (or at least compete with the best), then you have to look at who the best actually are...

Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are the best.
They are the two best managers in the league.
Of course some would argue that Tuchel is up there as well, but in my opinion it is Pep and Klopp equally, with Tuchel just behind.

I'm just really glad that Rangnick has a decent record against one of the best manager's in the league.

There is no way that the players' poor performances this season would be tolerated at Man City or Liverpool, or Chelsea, so why should it be tolerated at Utd? The answer is it shouldn't. I'm so happy that we have a manager who will not accept anything less than 100% effort on the pitch.

I hope you are right but as of now we have no clue if he has even been given that role or not. Nothing seems official yet so I hope it's not just media BS.

Ok well, let's suppose to gain promotion so many times he must've won quite a lot of games in those seasons, so with that in mind, in non-promotion seasons he must've not won too many matches to have such an average win % in German football.

But, I am hoping that with probably a better squad than he has had in the past, that he will do well as UTD manager, we shall see.

BBC are reporting it. It's done. His current team play tonight so expect an announcement tomorrow or within the next 48 max.
 
I think debate over his credentials to manage us are a bit pointless and are missing the context of the situation we find ourselves in.

The main focus had to be getting Ole out because he had lost the dressing room, and we were gauranteed a miserable midtable finish under him. We needed to alleviate the toxic atmosphere in the dressing room, a fresh start gives us a chance at rescuing the season, even if it doesn't work out how we want, we've at least given ourselves a chance. The board have put us in a position where no elite managers are available and willing to take the job (other than Conte who we passed on).

Ultimately it came down to appointing a coach who had proven competent at a decent level in European's top leagues. The shortlist we threw together fit the bill of available coaches who had experiene managing at a decent level in Europe and having some success. Valverde probably had the most appropriate CV on paper but beggars can't be choosers in this scenario, the club put us in an absolute mess by appointing Ole in the first place and then holding on to him far too long. The issue we had with Solskjaer is the only time we've seen him manage at a decent level of football is his disaster getting Cardiff relegated and then couldn't cut it in the championship... Frankly anyone we could have appointed would be a massive upgrade in terms of credentials.

Saying that, bizarrely I think his no nonsense approach is probably just as important at this stage for this United team. It could be a real smart move from the legend that is Ed Woodward

I think if the club wanted to go for someone with the best trophy winning CV they'd have picked Valverde. After 6 months he's gone though and that's that.

This appointment has far more long term vision about it and makes perfect sense with him moving upstairs to work as a director of football at the end of the season.

As an interim then long term club appointment he's literally ideal.

Glad the club are operating like this now.. It's taken long enough.
