Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

2 games in and he's given 2 debuts to youth products, not to mention he's started Elanga and Amad. (and a debut for Heaton).

Considering that first 11 we did well, noticed the coaching staff in the second half tying to get the players to move up, but I guess old habits are hard to change. These players will improve a lot, can't wait for Hannibal to come back.

Encouraging that he’s not afraid to give players a chance and to mix it up but we really can’t take away anything from tonight.

Assessing the squad is needed as always for new manager, but enough with sentimentalism. Hopefully Ralf will soon start making final judgement on some of the players.

He’s maybe a bit too honest?

bloody refreshing though!

Much better than being the opposite. It is horrible having a manager that nobody knows what he actually wants.

At least, the players and the fans know what Ragnick wants the team to do.

I much prefer this approach, as well.

I love that he says exactly what I am thinking usually. That comment on the short passes in defence, gold.

He sees, he understands.

He sounds pissed off in the post match interview. He probably realises how many clowns we have in the squad now.

Wasn't happy with vdb it seems, especially giving away the ball for the goal, said he spoke about that but we still did it and he found it annoying.

"pressing invitation"
It's true, our passing out from the back is horrendous and we constantly invite the opposition to press us. It's the number one thing Ralf and his coaches need to work on for me.

He seems sharp, which is great. Ole would have gone with something like "Mistakes happen, thats football".

If he was uncertain before, tonight will have confirmed that we need to invest in midfield in January. No way he watches that tonight and be happy with our squad options.

Yes, it absolutely is. I was laughing because of how blunt he was. He won't do romanticism. Feels like the first grown up since SAF.

Next training session is studying film of the Peter Kay John Smith's "ave it!" advert.

I don't understand why he used Mata there. I thought it was a poor choice beforehand and it showed to be a poor choice too. Strange IMO. He also didn't sub him until the end.

We need a central midfielder (with brain cells and working legs) and a right back. But then we needed these in the summer and chose to ignore it.

What did he say post match?

That we didn't play a high enough defensive line, did not press high, that our passing was sloppy, did not take our chances, invited them to press us by making shorter passes playing out from the back.

Probably to see, in a dead rubber game, if he is at all going to be useful throughout the season, I mean we all know he was never going to be but I suppose Ralf had to see for himself

No one was making the right spaces for vertical passes. Will be addressed.

Yeah, that was my main issue too. I'm sure he wanted to give him some game time in his legs but that seemed a bit excessive to me. Also didn't understand playing Matic in defence. I guess he just wanted to see if he could do it. But McTominay plays there for Scotland, so if we had a problem, he can always go back. Would've liked to have seen Donny and Matic in midfield to give the team a better platform and because they have played well together there. Surprised he didn't do that but I'm sure he had his reasons.

Got his first taste of just how stupid some of our players can be tonight.

Sounds like they ignored instructions he gave them.

I know its romantic and whatever but I dont like the manager throwing games like these, Im ok with fielding a B team but the last minutes were over the top IMO. He just basically threw every youngster in the pitch and we were completely dominated. Lucky to not have lost really, what good did it make for those youngsters to be pinned back at Old Trafford against freaking Young Boys?

Also I value our european and home records, having a team from Switzerland come to Old Trafford and take a point its never good. I'm more about the feeling of respecting our history, Old Trafford should be a fortress always.

This is literally the only game this season where we could have done this. It’s fine we didn’t lose.

Yeah and each one of those players got a debut at Old Trafford. So now they have experienced that and they have experienced collectively succeeding in keeping the opposition out. A good experience I would say.

I see your point but he has few opportunities to use the squad, he won't even have a pre-season according to his contract. So many records have already been destroyed as well.

Ultimately it was on the players to prove something.

Mctominay doesn't offer the same passing ability that Matic does, I suppose he wants his defenders to find passes through the line of opposition attackers, Matic is the only player we have that can do that. Maybe Varane when he's back. Maguire just constantly finds the fullbacks and doesn't usually pass vertically to our creative players. Greenwoods goal was a prime example of that and Matic did it well in the first half, old habits die hard and in the second half he and Bailly went back to just square passing across the box.

Team was disjointed due to lack of match fitness and opportunities for fringe players, the passing out of defence was shite and we gave the ball away too often.

Thanks!

Maguire is more of a tactical instruction I guess. Both he and Lindelof is pretty good at passing to feet. CM is indeed a problem. A younger Matic would have been perfect.

It's good that he is honest, but too much of that can be seen as throwing players under the bus. "I told them before the game, but they still".
If he's only here 6 months he can get away with it. Some players at the club have let down several managers and yet still remain.

He's not exactly like Jose though. I think there's a line between Ole and Jose which is, for lack of a better phrase, grown up. If it was just a bad performance, I don't think he'd be making these points, it's that they did not follow instructions repeatedly. So you can understand him saying that.
