Just look at Fred's role in both goals against Villareal. That's exactly what Rangnick likes to enforce. Fred will be valuable for Rangnick.I actually think he'd like Fred given his work rate, he's always struck me as a player that just needs the right coaching and system to get a tune out of him. McTominay on the other hand I feel will have a tougher time, especially given his tendency to hide during games.
Is Sancho going to play RB?Goodbye era of AWB, MCT.
Welcome Sancho, VDB
(I hope this ages horribly and AWB becomes incredible)
Fred will be playing every minute imo. Mctominay is someone who coaches tend to like but I can see him not being used as much.I actually think he'd like Fred given his work rate, he's always struck me as a player that just needs the right coaching and system to get a tune out of him. I’m all for it. Clean slate for the players. For all the people writing off AWB, I can actually see him flourishing under Rangnick.
The latterHas he already been confirmed/announced by the club? Or is this thread premature?
He isnt here to bring silverware. He is here to transform our football structure and make us a modern club which he has quite a bit of an experience of.The hipsters are buzzing with this but I'm not too sure about Ragnick. He's been managing for almost 4 decades and has little to no silverware to his name. Valverde would have been my choice but its just for 6 months so we'll probably be fine.

Weren't you in favour of Poch as a perma manager? Because as trophies go...

The reports are that he has agreed, it's just us sorting out how to compensate Lokomotiv Moscow.Jinx of a thread, what if he does a Conte and refuses to join (initial attempt).
Gotta disagree.Fair enough. Still think Valverde would have the better choice.
He's been more in directorial roles the past decade. Still a very good coach, bit of a purist, will be able to coach some pressing into us, but the real value will come with his 2 year consultancy gig.Did he retire once? According to Wiki, he didn't coach a single team between 2011 and 2015. 4 years without a job already in your early 50's seems a bit long for just being a break.

Is this the same thing Martial has? There has to be perspective on what he's done though, for example, the only reason you know anything about Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig/Salzburg in their leagues is because he dragged them up there, Hoffenheim was a nothing team in the 3rd division before he got them promoted 2 seasons in a row and they are now a mainstay
All this whilst he is also diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, this is why he resigned from Schalke at the time and he why he hasn't taken fully strenuous long term managerial appointments, preferring to take roles upstairs. You're right though, don't expect us to perform miracles on the pitch but at least we should see something different, more exciting, but it's the consultancy role he will take afterwards that should excite you.
Music to my ears

The same way Bielsa is brilliant but hasn't managed big clubs in Europe. Seems more of an innovator that has inspired several top coaches.I do not know anything about him. But I'm skeptical of him. If he is so good, then why has he not been the manager of major clubs? He's not exactly a young and new manager.
Don't forget Louis Lan Laal. How did I miss that one, so obvious

He's acknowedged that the likes of Klopp have surpassed him. I really don't think he should have joined us in a managerial capacity and hope Murtough and Fletcher know what they're doing, and that the players buy into his vision immediately.Rangnick might be, as far as football knowledge goes, arguably the most competent in German football, ahead of the likes of Tuchel and Klopp IMO. He was the OG "hipster manager" in Germany and his teams, as a collective, were always insanely hard to play against. Biggest question mark would be if he hasn't been overtaken by his peers since he hasn't been working as a coach for a long time, but he has excellent reputation as a sporting director as well. I would think he'd be an excellent choice to make you guys compete at the very top again.

Have you looked up his managerial record besides the sell-side fluff? He's hardly done anything noteworthy. I hope it works out.Don't think he'd be a bad choice either way. I'm sure even if he's gotten left behind a bit by Klopp and likes, he'd make an excellent interim coach and could work his magic in the next few years as a sporting director. He's one to instil a style at a club, starting from the coach he employs to the players he tries to get.
