I actually think he'd like Fred given his work rate, he's always struck me as a player that just needs the right coaching and system to get a tune out of him. McTominay on the other hand I feel will have a tougher time, especially given his tendency to hide during games.
Just look at Fred's role in both goals against Villareal. That's exactly what Rangnick likes to enforce. Fred will be valuable for Rangnick.

Fred will be playing every minute imo. Mctominay is someone who coaches tend to like but I can see him not being used as much.

For all the people writing off AWB, I can actually see him flourishing under Rangnick.

Jinx of a thread, what if he does a Conte and refuses to join (initial attempt).

The hipsters are buzzing with this but I'm not too sure about Ragnick. He's been managing for almost 4 decades and has little to no silverware to his name. Valverde would have been my choice but its just for 6 months so we'll probably be fine.

I just hope we dont go and get Poch in the summer and throw away any foundations Rangnick lays

He isnt here to bring silverware. He is here to transform our football structure and make us a modern club which he has quite a bit of an experience of.

He said in 2020 that he wasn't a fan of Shaw and that United could do better.

Just when I thought I couldn't love him more. Most complacent player in the squad - Rangnick wont tolerate the garbage he's produced this season.

This is a good choice, a very smart choice, not only will he bring a certain style of play but he will help the club behind the scenes and it will set us up perfectly for poch or ten Haag next season! His first game in charge could be arsenal at home. We owe them a beating! Wreck it Ralf!!

Weren't you in favour of Poch as a perma manager? Because as trophies go...

This.
Silverware will follow soon enough if he does what we all hope.
And even then, we're still in the CL and Fa Cup this season.;)

Fair enough. Still think Valverde would have the better choice.

Did he retire once? According to Wiki, he didn't coach a single team between 2011 and 2015. 4 years without a job already in your early 50's seems a bit long for just being a break.

Best of the interim options so actually relatively happy with this. I would hope this means we've got one eye on ten Hag for the summer as that seems the most natural transition

Gotta disagree.

This is by far the superior move, especially with how he can change the club in the 2 years after the interim role.

Not to mention, we get to watch EXCITING football (should). This is the thing I'm most pleased about, fed up with the crap we've been watching.

Get Ten Hag in after and it's perfect.

He's been more in directorial roles the past decade. Still a very good coach, bit of a purist, will be able to coach some pressing into us, but the real value will come with his 2 year consultancy gig.

There has to be perspective on what he's done though, for example, the only reason you know anything about Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig/Salzburg in their leagues is because he dragged them up there, Hoffenheim was a nothing team in the 3rd division before he got them promoted 2 seasons in a row and they are now a mainstay

All this whilst he is also diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, this is why he resigned from Schalke at the time and he why he hasn't taken fully strenuous long term managerial appointments, preferring to take roles upstairs. You're right though, don't expect us to perform miracles on the pitch but at least we should see something different, more exciting, but it's the consultancy role he will take afterwards that should excite you.

Is this the same thing Martial has?

It’s all very well him playing a high press game but our players simply aren’t capable of it. Too many passengers in our team.

Unless they change their mentality then it’s not going to work and we will end up like leeds just burning out at the back end of matches.

I do not know anything about him. But I'm skeptical of him. If he is so good, then why has he not been the manager of major clubs? He's not exactly a young and new manager.
The same way Bielsa is brilliant but hasn't managed big clubs in Europe. Seems more of an innovator that has inspired several top coaches.

We've gone with a consultant to become our manager, in true Glazer fashion. I bloody hope this works out for us!

He was ill for a while after Schalke, I think - and then he went to Leipzig in a non-coaching/director role (which he held for several years).

He isn't a standard manager/coach type - more of a behind-the-scenes type of guy who's worked on and off as an actual manager/coach.

Rangnick might be, as far as football knowledge goes, arguably the most competent in German football, ahead of the likes of Tuchel and Klopp IMO. He was the OG "hipster manager" in Germany and his teams, as a collective, were always insanely hard to play against. Biggest question mark would be if he hasn't been overtaken by his peers since he hasn't been working as a coach for a long time, but he has excellent reputation as a sporting director as well. I would think he'd be an excellent choice to make you guys compete at the very top again.

Klopp himself sees Rangnick as the best German coach btw.:

He's acknowedged that the likes of Klopp have surpassed him. I really don't think he should have joined us in a managerial capacity and hope Murtough and Fletcher know what they're doing, and that the players buy into his vision immediately.

I hadn’t heard of this guy until a month ago. Today the Caf has painted a picture that he’s going to be the next best thing to sliced bread! He’s some kind of coaching genius.
I hope everyone is proved right but I have to wonder why he’s not at a bigger Club at the moment if he’s such a marvel.

Don't think he'd be a bad choice either way. I'm sure even if he's gotten left behind a bit by Klopp and likes, he'd make an excellent interim coach and could work his magic in the next few years as a sporting director. He's one to instil a style at a club, starting from the coach he employs to the players he tries to get.

Have you looked up his managerial record besides the sell-side fluff? He's hardly done anything noteworthy. I hope it works out.

Highly recommend doing your own research onto Ragnick's time with Hoffenheim. Don't go off mine or anyone else's summary here, because it'll be biased and you won't hear anything short of incredible. But after doing that deep dive I do wonder if you'll feel the same.

And as for trophies...he has won the German cup so it's extremely unfair and misleading to phrase your critique as such citing "little to no silverware". Trophies aren't easy to come by for smaller clubs and he has done so. At the very worst you should say "he has only ever won...".
