Raheem Sterling

If Sterling improved his finishing he’d be unreal. Always gets himself in good positions, has pace and can beat a man.

Would anyone else take him here if he doesn’t renew at City?

I wouldn't be suprised if this actually happened in the next couple of seasons. The guy is a confessed UTD fan I think and you wont have problems meeting his wage demands should City fail to. I always mantained he was okay leaving Liverpool for United when he had 2 years left on his deal, but it was probably too problematic a deal to pursue.

Think he's brilliant.

Southgate used him all wrong in the WC & I expect him to get 30 goals this season.

He is a lot mentally tougher than the press will have you believe.

Had the most touches in the opponents Penalty Area this weekend out of the top 6 clubs (11). Aguero was second in the list on 8 with Salah 3rd on 7.

Regarding Ian Wrights recent comments, personally I feel there should be more push back against such comments. It's unacceptable to so casually paint people as racist, it's unfair on them and it hurts the actual fight against it.

What if what he is saying us true? He is not the only person to say it recently either, also its not only journalists of colour who referred to it before the world cup.

It might be true in the same way you might be a racist; we don't know. So it it would be unfair of me to accuse you of it.

Plenty of players have been given a rough time by the press, in Britain most of them white. There just is not enough reason to justify his claim.

What Wright saids comes down to one thing, he Left Liverpool. It's no secret that majority of the media are in love with liverpool and Sterling left their beloved club. While he was at Pool no one ever said a word about Sterling the minute he left he started getting all this criticism.

Coincidence i think not.

To clarify he said he thinks there's a tinge of racism involved. What's wrong with him putting that opinion out there? The lad does get an awful lot of stick, seemingly above many others so it's clearly a possibility. The papers (majority of them) are notoriously right-wing in Britain - hardly unsurprising if it was the case.

Why would you argue against him?

Because it's entirely baseless and thus harmful to the fight against racism and unfair on the reporters. It's pretty simple, I think allegations of racism (even a "tinge") should only come when there is more cause to believe it's a factor that it could be, I believe that to be an important and reasonable position to have.

Its not though.. if it was the treatment of Sterling as a footballer I'd say fair enough, but..

the lad buys a house for his mother, he gets abuse,
buys a fancy car, gets abuse
doesn't wash his fancy car, gets abuse,
shops at Primark, gets abuse
stops at Greggs, get abuse
Eats Frosties in public, gets abuse
Breathes in helium balloon, drugs shame..
gets a tattoo (many people have tattoo's of weapons, famous athletes too), gets abuse.
Sterling says "I will never touch a gun", Sky Sports say Sterling says "I will never touch a gun again.".
Was a father to one child, newspaper prints it in a derogatory light about his many children.
Sun runs a story about semi-pro player dealing drugs and shows a picture of Raheem.
‘England’s World Cup hopes rest, in part, on a player who, instead, has come to represent the moral decay of our national game’

But would they have treated Stevie G in the same manner if he had left for Chelsea?

You have seen some of the headlines DM and the Sun put out haven't you? I could link you some of my favourites but that's a waste of time I think. Right-wing/populist media as a group (obviously not each reporter) being a bit racist is hardly baseless.

Exactly considering the type of articles Daily Mail publish on their homepage with are overtly racist, it's not much of a stretch to accuse their sports journalists of having the same agenda

when people cry racism it's hard for persons who are not of the minority or the race in question to understand. As a black, it's easier for me to draw a line between Raheem's case and other professional footballer and the criticism they receive. While a none black person would find it harder and try to say the criticism is purely done to his performance on the pitch.

Steven Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Rooney etc all put in crap performances for England at major tournaments. Why isn't the other members of the squad being sounded out? Was Raheem the only person who performed badly in the eyes of the media and the average joe English fan while the rest of the footballing world saw what Raheem was doing.

Yes his finishing is awful but if the criticism was centered around his performance then there is no argument but when your attacking his family, his personal choice, where he chose to shop and all of that don't you think this is becoming personal?

Sky Sports use to sound out Costa on every little thing he did, whether Costa was wrong or right they didn't care. The media go on a full attack mode when players they don't like do anything but when their darling say Delli Ali commits a nasty foul and the ref doesn't call it you don't hear a peep out of them.

The media is bias and racist. You can even look at how when a white commits a mass murder or anything along that line you don't hear the media wanting to use the word terrorist but if a none white or Muslim person commits any of these atrocities the term terrorist is used before even the police confirm that it's a terrorist attack.

I only found out the other week he got 23 goals and 17 assists last season  and he gets this much stick. I only bump this because I had a conversation with a Chelsea fan earlier who would not have it at all that Sterling was an excellent player. This fecking plum said he would rather have Pedro!. Ok, anyway this fella normally knows what he's talking about. He's 23 for christs sake, If it wasn't for that utter tool Rodgers going to the press and telling them everything that was going on with the contract offer, Sterling might still have been at Liverpool under Klopp. Btw Rodgers the !#@! has pulled a similar stunt now at Celtic with Boyata, he can't keep nowt in his house.

Yeh. When Beckham and Ronaldo were hounded by press and fans all over the country, almost none were crying about racism? Was it because of their skin colors?

Yes. He's better than any AM we have.

Yes. Sods law though, he'd likely instantly become shite like the rest after joining

Also Rooney was routinely slaughtered by the press for his England performances.

I rate him. You can see why People loves him, he's constantly moving.
He drives a hard bargain when negotiating contracts. City have been trying to get him to sign for close to a year now.

Pedro in his prime is better . Raheem is benefiting from playing for Pep. Its the system why he's scoring so much. Also if your in the 90t minute and its 1-1 you can bet on Pedro scoring not Sterling

This has been going on since he decided to leave us to join City. John Stones did practically the same thing as Sterling in fact he contributed way less to Everton than Sterling did for Livepool and there wasn't a peep out of anyone from the media when Stones kicked up a fuss to leave. The victimisation of Sterling is down to one thing and we all know what it is.
I love sterling as a player and the claims some Liverpool fans made about Ibe being better were ludicrous.
However sterling gets the treatment he does off Liverpool fans because off the way he handled his departure particularly that interview he gave.
As for the racism claims, well our media has done far worse to Rooney over the years. Some of these players aren't the most educated and unfortunately these scum papers prey on that.

Totally agree. I'm normally happy to see another clubs player get stick in the media. But it's ridiculous with Sterling. Seems racially motivated to me.

Otherwise what is the motivation for all the negative press? He's not an especially annoying or arrogant player. He's not the most recognisable or most famous.

the lad buys a house for his mother, he gets abuse, What if she didnt want to move?
buys a fancy car, gets abuse, What car was it?
doesn't wash his fancy car, gets abuse, Depends what car it was, probably shouldnt be washed!
shops at Primark, gets abuse, The money he is on and he shops at primark?
stops at Greggs, get abuse, The sandwich shop or his mate called Gregg? lets be honest, anyone called Gregg is bound to be dodgy!
Eats Frosties in public, gets abuse, Rightly so, I see any of my kids eating breakfast in public they get a slap, especially before getting dressed
Breathes in helium balloon, drugs shame.. Is this the laughing gas thing? If so world of difference here
gets a tattoo (many people have tattoo's of weapons, famous athletes too), gets abuse. Ahh the gun thing, Jesus died on a cross and people have them!
Sterling says "I will never touch a gun", Sky Sports say Sterling says "I will never touch a gun again." He has stopped playing Call of Duty
Was a father to one child, newspaper prints it in a derogatory light about his many children. Has stopped playing The Sims
The Rag is full of cancerous toxic cretins who dont deserve to live.
‘England’s World Cup hopes rest, in part, on a player who, instead, has come to represent the moral decay of our national game With national Hero Harry Kane claiming all the plaudits, including plaudits belonging to other players!

I joke but I do so honestly. The only media I read is the BBC website and forums. For me the media has always had its own agenda, I have no idea what that agenda is, but they have one. Remember when the rag tried to besmirch Ronnie Barker years ago when he retired? For me the media should be ignored, they print constant shite that the gullibles lap up.

Poor finisher but amazing player. People who say he is shit don't watch enough football. Evident from the liverpool days he was class.

Not a great world cup but showed he is the only English player capable of dribbling and causing havoc on his own. Lingard has excellent movement and intelligence but can't dribble like sterling nor does he have the touch.

Always been a very good player and still only 23.

Did get a lot of goals last season but his finishing is still suspect imo. Once/if he sorts that out he'll be world class.

Think it's more of an inbuilt, killer instinct for those lethal striker. That split second will decide whether it is a goal or a miss.

Pedro is a Champions League winner and has done it on a big stage for some years now but I can't understand why anyone would prefer Pedro in their team right now over Sterling, but fair enough that is your opinion. @Liver_bird yeah I agree in some aspects with what you are saying but I think people make too much out of that BBC interview, he didn't actually say anything wrong if you watch it fully. It was more the fact he conducted the interview without seeking permission from Rodgers beforehand. As far as I'm concerned I place most of the blame on Rodgers and the agent. He's a little shit because he was always going to jump ship if we didn't pay his demands and as a passionate Liverpool fan that hurt, but thinking back after that disaster of a season in 14/15 I really didn't blame him for leaving.

He's a very good footballer and would be a welcome addition to any PL team. His finishing can be extremely inconsistent but he also bailed out City like 3/4 times in a row last season with an extra time winner.

He only scored those winners because of Pep :wenger:.

Did Sterling not do this very thing several times last season?

Did Sterling not do this very thing several times last season?

Yeah, he was instrumental in keeping our 18 game win streak going with his late goals. Not sure what Sterling that guy was watching, but it can't have been Raheem.

If he wasn't English he'd receive way more plaudits. Compare him to someone like Dybala - whom many jizz over furiously, and you can quite confidently say that Sterling is on the same level.
