Devalued Sterling may quit Liverpool

Liverpool striker Raheem Sterling could quit the club this summer, with his mum keen for him to move back to London.

Tottenham are monitoring the 17-year-old’s progress, whose frustration at a lack of senior action has been well-documented.

Now, Sterling’s mother Nadine is ready to force the issue by pushing for a return south to Harlesden in north London.

The England Under-18 forward, who can also play on the wing, currently lives in Walton with his mum, two-year-old brother and 10-year-old sister.

But his mother fears he is not making progress at Anfield as other youngsters are being integrated into first teams at other clubs.

A string of defensively minded youngsters, including Jon Flanagan, Martin Kelly, Jack Robinson and Jay Spearing, have made it into the Liverpool first team in recent years.

But no young striker has come through to play in Liverpool’s first team since Neil Mellor in the 2002-03 season and Michael Owen in 1997.

Sterling is widely seen as the best young prospect at Liverpool and hit a superb goal against an experienced Arsenal this week in a 1-1 draw for the reserves.

And Liverpool have refused to accept loan bids for him from a string of clubs, including Bolton, Swansea, West Ham and both Sheffield clubs.

The article is maybe bollox.

But i don't understand why he was close to the first team last season and now he's so far away from the first team.

But the young players at Anfield don't get a chance in the last years.

They've nothing to play for in the league this season and he can't be worse than Downing so he should really get a chance in the next weeks imo.

He was tiny when I saw him in the youth cup last season.
Most likely bs, but if its true, he is a stupid kid.

Not just the article which is a load of bollocks, your points follow on nicely ;)

Firstly, he was nowhere near the first team last season as he was only 16 and still at school. Who says he's "far away" from the first team? He has been on the bench for cup games. He's 17 and the size of a flea. He may well get a couple of run outs before the end of the season. Kids need protected, your very own manager was lauded for years for wrapping Giggs et al in cotton wool in the early years.

As for young players not getting a run in recent years. Robinson, Flanagan, Shelvey all played regularly in the latter half of last season. Flanagan has played a few times this season, Robinson has been injured and Shelvey was out on loan. I'll throw Martin Kelly, Jay Spearing and Coates in there just to highlight how far off the mark you were.

Maybe he doesn't like the club and this is his cover story to get away.

The quotes. Read the quotes dammit.

The newspapers seem eager to do this to any young talented kids nowadays (or maybe I'm just noticing it more now with Pogba and Morrison).

I saw the reserve game against us, talented he may be but he's nowhere near ready for the first team.

How is that talented Spanish dribbler they have doing?

He's probably insulted that Carroll starts ahead of him....

He's miles away from a PL start on that performance, his marker Angha was pants as well, the new Traore.

Sounds like another example of a young teenager who already thinks he's at the top of the game because of the media attention he's received: blatantly ignoring the fact that he's yet to even establish himself as a squad player for Liverpool.

He's only 17 years old. He should shut up and just work on improving as a footballer. If another few years go by and he isn't getting any chances, then he may have a right to complain, but for the moment he should realise his place and keep his mouth firmly shut. He may have a lot of ability, but he's not even close to being a proper player physically. Defenders would have a field day with him.

There's nothing I hate more than a youngster thinking he's bigger than he is and running his mouth off.

How old are those guys?

Guess this story wasnt that much bollocks, don't think it's a coincidence that he has given his debut just after this story was printed.

He's talented from what I saw in the youth cup game against us.

Liverpool will ruin him though. Its where football talent goes to die.

only saw him the once in a youth game against United, is he worth trying to steal? piss the scousers off a bit.

Apparently we were in for him with Liverpool. He chose Liverpool as he was a fan of the club.

I've seen him 5 or 6 times so...really it doesn't count for much.

That being said he's scored/influenced the game every time I've seen him play.

I'm sure Liverpool will sort his contract out. He'd be well advised to stick with Liverpool for now...given that nobody else can hit a barn door for toffee.

I'd love it if we were able to poach him. Still a raw talent, but there's definitely something special there. Plus i'd piss off the dippers and give the lad a real chance of fulfilling his potential. Liverpool are a club in decline and that's no place for a youngster to make his mark.
