Is there any truth to his reported wages being 200K pounds a week?

I don't get that; no other club was in for him, and he burned all his bridges with liverpool. Surely he would've taken anything to get out of there.

If an 18 year old striker was put up for sale today with the knowledge that he would go on to do what Rooney has done for United what do you think the price would be? Try telling the club selling him £26m would be a 'fair' price and they wouldn't even give it the dignity of a response.

If Sterling gives 5+ good seasons in a City shirt and remains a regular throughout his time then his signing will have been a worthwhile one, even for £49m.

I rarely agree with City fans here but you're right on that one. Sterling is a major talent, still very young and being English is a plus, too. If he continues to improve and remains consistent then that fee, no matter how big, will be fully justified.

It looks like a ridiculous fee and especially wages if the reported ones are true, but it will all depend on the impact he makes. He has it in him to become an excellent player consistently (though this summer has had me doubting his mentality), if he kicks on, the financial aspect of the deal won't really matter.

That was the rumour yesterday, whether it's true we don't know yet.

I actually agree with you.

Liverpool getting all giddy about getting £49m for a kid with a shit load of potential "who hasn't even achieved anything yet".

Well congratulations Liverpool, rather than actually having a world class season out of your best prospects you're now selling them before they ripen.

Golf clap.

I don't get the fuss over the transfer fees, he's one of the best talent, english and the way the fee is going around in current market it ain't that ridiculous, maybe a tad more then the going rate but nothing extra ordinary. Though the rumored wages are completely bonkers for a 20 year old kid.

He is young and English, and we can all agree that he is only going to improve, question is by how much. So if in 3 years time when he will still be young he has't developed into a world class or close to that level player, and City decide to sell him there will be clubs interested in him and they'll get at least half their money back.
City have missed out on having some home grown players in their squad, so the price they have to pay now is 49 mil just for potential. We'll see how this works out as they are hardly known for improving young players.

Liverpool have done well to get £49m given how everything has panned out. Only time will tell if that is a bargain for City or not, but if he turns into the player he could be, then £49m will look pretty cheap. £200k pw seems excessive though - surely could have got him for £140-150?
Can't wait until next season when he scores a last minute winner for City at the Kop end :)

City get a young talent with immense potential.

Liverpool get a really good fee considering the situation.

Sterling gets 200k a week (If True)

Everyone's a winner here.

From what I can work out and infer, it was the offer of 200K that led him to cut off contract talks and agitate to leave. It's blatantly obvious City tapped him up a long time ago.

@BobbyManc Why the sky high wages then? seems over the top.I mean liverpool have the right to hold out for whatever fee they want, but he was never going anywhere else, it just seems needless to me.

We signed Darmain, Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin for the same price as they're paying for Sterling. This is why it doesn't pay to sign English players.

You mean why the reports of sky high wages? Well, it sells papers and gets people clicking on links. At any rate, we have just spent £49m on him, I think high wages are to be expected. £200k as a set amount a week is certainly false though.

Not a month, 200k a week.

I admire you standing up for your club, but you must realise you are no longer the Man City of old. Any other club (bar Chelsea too) and we'd accept the media were bullsh*tting. But its City, the Saudi owned version. If the media are reporting 200k a week its probably higher!!

And yet again Liverpool are being shown that they are a subtop team. Must hurt being a Liverpool fan.

Seriously doubt he'll be on 200K a week. Doesn't make much sense; he wanted to leave and it doesn't seem Liverpool accepted any other bids from other clubs.

Yeah, you're exactly right. This is not the City that went squandering money on Santa Cruz, Wayne Bridge, Adebayor etc and giving them silly wages. Do you really think Sterling earns the same as Aguero? Ask yourself if any club would give Sterling the same as their best and most marketable player. It makes for a nice narrative in the media, silly old City with no common sense just spending their oil money without a care in the world, and people are only too willing to lap it up.

Price doesn't seem that bad...good signing for City. What would a fair fee be anyway? £35-40m probably. A little extra isn't going to bankrupt City

£200k wages is probably made up as well like the media always do. I would guess it's at least £150k though

Isnt the bid 45m rising to 49m? Why are all of you stating that the fee is 49m, thats one of the thing that irks me the most whenever we sign any player and the media inflates the fee. Same thing is happening here.

Because Liverpool have ensured we get the bulk (all) of it with regards to Sterling's appearances for City rather than City winning anything. If Sterling is the next Rooney, as has been spouted on here, those clauses are all a formality.

How many appearances is it? Any idea? If its a lot, then I feel city will be happy to pay the additional 4m for a home grown player who is a part of the first XI.

It's the same way Carrick cost £18m. It's the same way Rooney was £28m. It's natural for people to go full whack and go for the big number for some reason.

Sterling is 20 and has star quality. Both Bayern and Real have already looked into signing him. Like it or not, if he fulfills his potential he will be a galatico profile of player. He will be worth a lot off the pitch to City just like Rooney has been to us.

Darmain is a 25 year old full back with little off pitch marketability, Schweinsteiger is 31 in a few days and had one year on his contract and Schneiderlin is 25 and has no star quality whatsoever.

Liverpool fans claiming the moral cup left right and centre over this, but eventually it will hit home that their brightest prospects no longer want to stay at the club. Probably about half way through next season when they realise their captain is Jordan Henderson.

Hate the word galatico. That and done dealio are really bad. I'm not convinced City can train Sterling to be the player he could be. I think he will be a good player but it will be a soulless relationship.

In this case it simply means that he will be a highly marketable asset off the pitch, a 'star' if you like.

 just seen Phil Thompson's comments about him not being all that and Liverpool fans won't be bothered
