anyone care to comment on just how good this kid is? i've seen a bit of him so far, and he looks one hell of a talent.

any dutchmen's opinions gratefully received of course.

:D

Im'n in Holland, he's considered the biggest talent in dutch football and everyone thinks he is the man to finally bring a World Cup back for Holland in the future. Seems like everyone here is convinced that he'll become a legend.
From what I've seen, that might be true. He's got the football intelligence rarely seen in boys of 18-19, he's got the scoring ability of Ballack, creates for himself as well for teammates, and has an unbelievable amount of skill... sometimes it seems like he beats 2-3 players at will...

I've only seen him play twice, in the Amsterdam tournament, and he impressed me greatly. Especially in the Barcelona match.

He's coming to Liverpool in January :)

Spotted him in Championship Manager 2001/2002 season. He plays seriously well on the left wing and is a great buy - in real world, however, this is the first time I have heard people talk about him.

Left sided? We should bring him over now and give him citizenship in 5 years. He can change his name to Robbie Fartson.

He's not just a version of Ballack... he's got more skills... but he ain't going anywhere in January, as he said that he wouldn't consider leaving until he's something like 21-22. He finds himself too young to go abroad anytime soon. Granted, this is what he said half a year ago ;)
But apparently Real Madrid were tracking him so...

Well he's been injured since september during that game against Russia where he beat 3 players and then got kicked down, but he'll make his comeback tomorrow (maybe) in the CL match against Lyon. Koeman thinks he's fit enough again to at least be on the bench...
He's becoming the Beckham of Holland in terms of popularity... the dutch media+footballworld+ppl's hearts ache when he got his injury in sept...

I have seen him play, and he is amazing. He scores a ton of goals too, which is great to see. Amazing touch, and he will be better than Ballack.

Does he play with Litmanen in midfield? or how do they play? sounds like this van der vaart is a similar player, pops up from midfield scoring goals.

plays wider, from what i've seen of him. left or right side, likes beating men and putting the ball into the box and chips in with a good few goals. also seems to play with a very old head on young shoulders.

I'm a big fan of Ajax (and ManUtd), and I can say that vd Vaart is the biggest talent we've got in Dutch football! This kid is trully, trully skillful, and he can score amazing goals from about anywhere on the pitch! He's young, smart, very very intelligent and I think he will become the next leader of Dutch football!

Van Der Vaart got injured a few days after Litmanen signed, so they haven't played together yet. This season he mostly played just behind the striker, but since that's Litmanen's best position VDV will probably play a more withdrawn role as he has done in previous seasons.

Btw his mother is from Spain (but grew up in Holland) and he has said when he leaves Ajax his prefered choice would be a Spanish club.

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> Maybe our scouts should start using CM <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

I saw him play in 3-4 games and he was fantastic: pacey dribbler who beats opponents at will. He just simply tears them apart.

Have seen him mainly on the right side though with occasional switches to the left despite CM saying he is a LM (mind you, he is better in real life than in CM!).

How sure of this are you?

I heard a few rumblings about this too, but all had gone quiet?

saucy git. ;)

comment away if you've seen him mate.</strong><hr></blockquote>

I agree with the Ballack comparisons. He's got similar attributes to him. Great scoring record for a midfielder. Will definitely be World Class in a few years. The race is on.

It's bullshit, only reason you'd be prefered is because you handed Litmanen over to them for free. read that Ajax is however in a financial crisis and need money so RVDV will go to the highest bidder. That's where we come in :) , besides, would be any young boys dream to be the key player in Manchester United.

How sure are you about this? I have heard some speculation about this guy and he would be a major boost for any team that signs him.

well, we'll see won't we?

perhaps the deal has already been done and no bidding war would ever be necessary. . .

Hmmm, doubt they could be that stupid. If he has a excellent CL his price would increase alot. Or have you heard this from exclusively from Softlad, in that case it must be true

Can't see why he'd pick you ahead of us though. Here he'd compete with players 7-8 years older than him, he'd get his chance to be the main man in a few years time. Whereas you have Gerrard and a bunch of other midfielders that are as old as RVDV and would be direct competetion there.

and your 2nd point defies logic, ahmed. . .you've just admitted that by joining manyoo he'd be joining an ageing team on the wane, whereas by joining liverpool he'd be joining a club on the up. . .

;)

On the contrary, it's an ageing team alright as Scholes, beckham and this generation are the core of the team at the moment.

But it's Manchester United, doesn't get any bigger for a player. You can go on all you want about LFC being the most successful team in english history, but to a foreign player you are second to United. No glamour attached to your club (you might laugh, but this will sway young players). Our assistant captain marrying a pop star also helps.

If you'd get the chance to represent the biggest club in the world or a workman like long ball team like Liverpool when you're 20, what do you think you'd pick?

like i said, we'll see.

real madrid cast a shadow over manyoo, ahmed.

and liverpool still ARE more successful.

manyoo are just better marketed.

Yes, we'll see. I'd be dissapointed if we're not atleast participating in the bidding.

Yes, about time they use that marketing power to attract some new decent players as well.

And yes, Real Madrid is big. They are however spanish and I'd claim that the PL is more popular around the world. Hard to say when I don't know how the La Liga is followed in the SA. The hispanic countries tend to follow eachothers doings.

most of south america supports real madrid. but most of south america has no money to spend on merchandise.

like i said, there may be no bidding war.

Why would SA support Real Madrid though, isn't Real madrid the kings team or Francos team?

Or perhaps there is no bitterness attached there.

thats very misleading since Liverpool have yet to come close to anything they've done in the past. No league titles or euro cups in well over a decade. Young players can only draw on the success of what they've witnessed in their short lives, and for most, that means United.

Listen to us dutch guys, it is true he has said this and it is also true he has said he will stay at Ajax till at least when he's 21-22, because he finds himself to be too young to go abroad. All this speculation is way too early, and based on nothing.
And regarding United fans and scousers arguing where he'd probably end up... if it is true that Real Madrid were tracking him since a year+, and if he stays true to his own words then he'd go to Spain I'm afraid.
