We'll miss Rafael's pace up against Hazard on Monday. Smalling can stretch his legs but his positioning when he plays full back often leaves him flat footed and up against a player as nippy and tricky as Hazard that could be dangerous.

West Ham's 1st goal. I think Rafael might have been a bit rash in coming in-field to stop Diame (I think it was him) breaking forward, when Carrick was close by and in a position to challenge him. It left Rio vs Jarvis on the right flank. Not a huge mistake, but I do think Rafael's coming inside contributed to the goal. He's been fine otherwise.

perhaps but he did it again which was lucky as he covered Rio's slip. We were still in ok shape but I don't think Jones communicated with Rio to cover the outside and Rio got caught flat footed. There was another play very similar but it was Vidic coming over for support and he yelled and pointed for Rio to cover the outside and the threat was dealt with.

I thought Rafael grew into the game and was brilliant on the counter. Outduelled the caveman for a few headers and whipped in a couple decent crosses. All in all thought he did very well.

Yeah, I too think that goal was his fault, Carrick was already close to Diame, so he shouldn't be dubbling him because he let Jarvis free.

He was great in the second half though, won numerous of headers, and pushed us forward on many occasions.

This season he has been a revelation, the attributes and talent was always there and he has finally put it all together - concentration, consistency, injury free with a run of games.

Reminds me of Evra around 2007 when he began to consistently put in some fantastic performances.

Attacking wise, he is just about as good as carrying the ball forward as Evra is, and also has more to offer in the final third. His end product is better though - generally very good with crosses and has a cracking shot.

I agree it was a mistake, he should probably have held his position. But i think in the back of his mind the tottenham goal Bale scored against us was in his mind.

Diame is clearly athletic and would probably burn passed Ferdinand, especially the form he was in yesterday. Maybe that made Rafs mind up to help cover him.

Lets be honest though it was a well worked counter attack, they used the space given smartly.

That was poor defending. Left Jarvis in acres of space, forcing Rio out of position to cover. Then, after drifted infield he didn't seem to know what to do next and ended up wandering round our box not marking anyone.

He's been magnificent this season and has massively cut down on defensive brain-farts. fecked up last night though. He's been a bit wobbly in his last couple of games, since being injured, come to think of it. No big deal though. I'd say only Vidic or Carrick have had fewer poor games over the season as a whole.

Obviously Rafael should have kept closer to Jarvis but I still wouldn't blame that goal too much on him. The fact that Rio was there to cover makes his decision to go up the field reasonable, Rio just got beat and Jarvis sent in a great cross.

I thought he was really good other than that, definitely the best game since his return from injury.

Using that logic, no full-back would ever track his winger.

Jarvis was Rafael's man and he fecked up by not sticking with him. It's really that simple.

I'm gonna pick up on this point cos it seems to have gone a bit unnoticed on here, but does anyone else think his crossing needs a lot of work? Its probably marginally better than Evra's which isn't really saying anything but i think it could be an awful lot better. He scuffs an awful lot, and puts a lot straight into the stands.

Have to agree. Watching it I was thinking, what the feck is he doing? He got pulled out of position badly there.

Spot on Pogue.

He obviously made a mistake, but I still wouldn't put a majority of the blame on him for the goal. I think it's just something we'll have to take with Rafael. He's going to get forward and leave us exposed and most of the time it works because we have players capable of covering for him and it ends out being worth it because he gives us a lot of drive going forward.

Was definately very shaky against City but thought he was one of our better players last night. Was the only one that tried to play with any sort of tempo, and made a couple of good interventions at the back. He had a couple of good clearing headers in the box (beating Carroll in the air once), and i think he rescued Rio one time after a slip up.

Think he's had a bit of a dip recently but it's been a fantastic season by and large. He's some way off Evra at his peak-standard but he may well end up at that level.

I dont really think so. He's been one of the best right backs in the country for multiple seasons despite some negativity on here and in the press

He has been brilliant for a long time. Made huge steps forward since that Munich game too

He'll have a good highlights reel of screamers when he retires, great strike on him.

And was excellent once again, great season for him. Our top3 player this season without any doubt.

One of the best things coming out of this season (apart from the obvious being the title).
No competition for his spot now. He's sealed the deal and made sure Jones is fighting for CB rather than RB.

He is our RB absolutely no doubt about it. Brilliant Brilliant player who's had a fantastic season, perhaps his best ever for us. I fecking love the little bugger!

3 titles and he is still 22 years old.

He can become our new (defender) Giggs.

What a season for him. He definitely did come of age. More mature, less injuries and what a wonder goal he scored.

Absolutely on his way to becoming one of the best fullbacks in the world. I know its still very early days, but if he stays another 10 years at this club, I think its not out of the question he will surpass Neville.

I think that he is much more talented than Neville, and if he stays for another 10 years he will be reminded comfortably as our best ever right back.
