I hope he'll learn from this match that against certain players he has to tweak his gung ho style of defending.Against Ozil you just can't throw yourself at him.

He showed that he's definitely learned and gained experience from a couple of years back. Had he been younger then he'd have ended up with a sending off, but he's clearly matured as a player to some extent this season, both ability wise and when it comes to mentality.

He done a lot better in the second half, I think.

Not his best game and looked a bit over motivated and hasty like during his early days for us but still did a fairly good job.

He is young though and will learn from these games and as mentioned already improved in the second half I think.

Very good second half. Weren't that many chances in the second half from his side. Had an awful first half and thought he should have came off but fair play to him.

Much, much better in the second half. I still think he was left too exposed in the first half.

In judging Rafael today, I would urge caftards to consider the quality of the opposition.

This is correct, but he needs to be more conservative in the big matches instead of taking more chances and pressing harder. I thought he was too hyped up in the first half. Why Mourinho decided to stop targeting Raphael at halftime is beyond me.

He has matured considerably this season, but I think there is still some rashness in the big moments. Just look at his Olympic final in the summer for an example.

He was overcommitted in the beginning, too much of the pre-match Ronaldo talk. Thought he might struggle after the caution, but did well overall.

Decent player, but he just isn't good enough to play at the top level.

He will cost us.

Well thats clearly bullshit. Bar RVP and Carrick, he's arguably been our best player. A below standard performance away against the best player he'll come up against isn't enough to change that.

Good man-management to not take him off either by Fergie, quite a few people would've hooked him off after the first half horror show but the long term effects of that on the lads confidence could've been disastrous. Faith was shown in him and he was much calmer in the second half.

Did very well to improve in the second half after an absolutely horrific first half. Shows character, though I've no idea where that first half came from. As bad as I've seen him play for years!

Tonight will probably benefit him more than if he'd coasted through it, albeit in the long run. He's not the finished article yet. He was a liability in the first half, but in the second he showed character to tighten up and retain his discipline.

Yea, hard to disagree with any of that.

Yeah it must be tedious that I'm proved right.

One exception to an otherwise brilliant season doesn't prove you right. But at least it gives you fuel to keep on truckin', so I guess it's good for the entertainment value of the Caf.

Luckily, he didn't see nearly as much action in the second half.

I see him as a week link at the moment - good teams will try and expose him.

If you suggested before the game that he would struggle in the first half against one of the best attacks in the world, then play well in second and stay cool despite being on a booking, then I would say "Yes Pete you were tedioulsy proved right yet again"

It was also a liability to leave him alone. There was little help in the first help but in the 2nd half Rooney dropped down deeper. It was still Rooney but at least some space was being occupied. Rafael was being bombarded with Ronaldo, Özil and Coentrao. There's not trio of players that will come at you close to this quality in the PL. It's probably one of the toughest job in football to play right back vs Real Madrid.

Tell yourself whatever it takes to get you over losing RVP to us.

Fact is, he's in fantastic form and simply had a bit of an off day whilst being given absolutely no help against one of the finest attacks in world football. For you to think this proves you right only shows you up for the gimp you are.
