Eamon Dunphy admits he was an idiot about Ronaldo, before then slating Rafael as impetuous and bad defensively. Never learns.

It's like he's 18 again, not sure of himself tonight think he respect Ronaldo too much.

 I just fecking love him. Needs to calm down a bit but he's made a few challenges. Needs more help on this side too I'd get Welbeck over here with him permanently. That defending for his yellow was wank though, I could see that coming a mile off.

Wouldn't be too surprised if he's taken off at some point. We really can't risk going down to 10.

Lunging in, but he's getting caught on two minds whether to go with Ronaldo or stick with Ozil who drifts in behind.

I love Rafa to bits, but he's having a mare, and is a red card waiting to happen. Need to get him off asap.

Probably off in the 2nd half, he is a good right back Rafa but he still has a lot to learn.

Neville is right when he calls him the weakest of our defenders

No shame, Ozil and Ronaldo are class. The issue is he gets caught too tight, did it too often on Saturday and tonight he will get shown up, tracked Ronaldo reasonably ok. Big learning curve, an invaluable one too.

Brwned is right when he says he gets dragged out of position far too easily. Very evident against the better players.

I reckon taking him off would be a good decision. He's been extremely nervous. I'm sure he will be good in the home fixture.

Disappointing performance from him. A lot of the press/people have said he would struggle this week but I thought he'd finally prove his critics wrong when the spotlight is on him, but he's fallen right into their trap.

He needs to adapt his game in front of the players he's facing.Throwing yourself at the likes of Ozil is suicidal, he has to defend more intelligently

He's been getting doubled team by Ronaldo and Ozil plenty of times. Don't think anybody could play well against that. Think he should come off though, he's on a yellow and it's really dangerous with the way Ronaldo and Ozil are playing.

Very poor and naive performance by him tonight. It's just Bayern 2010 all over again. If he doesn't sort himself out he'll give away a few opportunities and get sent off. He should be a lot more mature by now. Bitterly disappointed so far.

It's not though, he was excellent in that game tonight not so much :nervous:

He's not been at his best, but hes playing against the likes of Ronaldo and Ozil, genius players. Any rightback would be having a tough time

Although there was also the moment when Evra tracked his man all the way across the pitch to the opposite wing - so not sure if that is also down to tactics tonight.

Think he can do much better - is definitely trying to get too tight and be too aggressive. Was a disappointing booking to pick up - and all because he got too close initially.

Think he will be lucky to see 90 minutes - hopefully by being subbed. Not saying I think he should be, but he will do well to play 45 minutes against Ronaldo and not get booked.

He did very well against Bayern and was unlucky with the red, tonight he does look nervous and isn't having the best of games though.

People are being very harsh on Rafael, there has been multiple times he's been left against 2 players because our tracking back isn't great.

Not his greatest game, but definitely doesn't deserve all the negativity. He got booked for a nothin tackle which later in the half, a worse but similar tackle was on Evra and the Madrid player didn't get a booking.

Better 2nd half I thought, not just him, the whole defensive unit together brought up the performance.

Very dissappointed with him based on the first half, seemingly learnt nothing from Bayern which was a shame.. that said in the second half, he managed to not put a foot wrong or get sent off, which could arguably be used as evidence he has learnt a thing or two.

Played much closer to the CB's in the 2nd half. Either someone had a word or he cleared his mind at HT, strong mentality.

To be fair to him though, he was hung out to dry in that first half.

But yes, the second half shows just how far and well he is coming along :)
