At right back I agree that he is. Smalling is class and against a tall and powerful side like Everton or Stoke I would prefer him but I feel Rafa is a much more natual fullback and as such better.

Smalling is going to be an incredible centreback though.

No, them as players, not their positions.

As players I think that both of them have potential to become the best in league in their positions, both of them are extremely talented.

Flying this season, went all Cafu on us with his shot in the First Half, great player and Ben Arfa didn't get much out of him.

Absolutely top notch tonight. Kept ben Arfa in his pocket all game which is all you have to say really.

Attacked non stop all game, defended like a warrior. I love him to bits!

He was very solid from start to finish. Defensively he's our most consistent full back at the moment. Players aren't able to beat him or force him into risky challenges as much as they used to. We lacked natural width out there, but he was driving our attack from the wings as often as Evra does.

The maturity in his game is clear for all to see and it's a privilege to watch him reward our patience.

Other than the one game vs Fulham, he's been brilliant this season.

Another great game from Him and the consistency is Improving all the time In his performances defensively.Very underated as an actual defender by some, when very few tricky pacy winger get the better of him as the ability to keep up with them and steal the ball is one He posesses more than most.

The positional side of His game is the only thing He needs to work on and it was good today.
He timed his runs to perfection and knew when to cover and get back ,something that will get more consistent the older He gets. A season of these type of performances will see Him become the best right back in the world imo.

Another excellent performance, against a very tricky opponent in Ben Arfa. I particularly liked that moment where it looked like Ben Arfa had turned him and got inside, but Rafael recovered to get goalside of him straight away.

If he continue to play like this then he will be chosen as best right back in England. But he had a similar start in 2010-2011 like this season and then on the second part he had many problems. Anyway I think that he is playing brilliantly and this could be his season.

As has been mentioned, our best player this season. Himself and Paddy got the balance just right today..

Another good game from him today. I can only remember newcastles winger getting the better of him once or twice, and even then Rafael was able to put pressure on him and get himself back in front of his man.

Didnt push forward as much as in the past but on the other hand it gave us some stability at the back

Did really well against Ben Arfa.. Its good to see that he doesnt go to ground as often as he used to. The best part is that the kids a fighter and gives a 100% whenver he is on the pitch.

He has been our most consistent player so far this season.

He kept Ben Arfa really quiet, whilst also having the usual attacking run down the right flank. Obviously he can't keep attacking the full 90 minutes or else Ben Arfa would have nailed us on the counter attack, he showed great maturity in knowing when to attack (momentum, positioning). Overall, a great performance from Rafael, he's claiming that right back spot this season.

Loved that he just popped up at right striker/right winger positions and have a go at goal. Almost grabbed one in the first half too! At this rate he'll end up one of our top scorers this season :)

Spotted in Casino last night in a £50 Texas holdem tourney.

Did not last that long, my mate lasted longer so must be a novice.

Apparently goes in there a lot, the one in higher Broughton (Grovesnor) for any interested.

Love the way its only £50 bucks aswell, with the kind of money they roll around with it could be adding 4 zeros on the end of that.

Hopefullly its just a bit of boredom though, getting into heavy gambling is never good.

Like his positioning on the Stoke's crosses and long balls. For all the talk about his defensive positioning, he knows exactly where to be.
