Radja Nainggolan

Not really. He's much better defensively than offensively.
This. His passing good but in the final third he can be quite limited.

Also your names a bit suspect

If that's the case then, why are we even going for Matic / Dier?
Because, imo, they're true defensive midfielders. A trio of Pogba - DM - Herrera would be great, as Pogba provides a lot going forward, Herrera provides a lot of energy and aggression as well as the occasional killer pass, and the DM cleans up and protects the back 4.

Agreed, his shooting form especially seems to have fallen off a cliff.

It's based on my initials, don't worry.

Like @LennonNL said, we'd have an astute midfield that'd be very hard to get past. It would be great defensively, but against teams that shut up shop, we might find it lacking creativity at times imo. Just Herrera and Carrick wouldn't be enough cover for the holding position next season, so we'd definitely need an addition regardless.

The original plan could have been to move Herrera to #6 and get a well-rounded #8. However, there aren't many available #8s that are great both offensively and defensively (I've heard a lot of good things about Naby Keita though), so I'm assuming that once we realised Nainggolan may not be coming, we had to reconsider and also focus on #6 options.

Didn't want him anyway!

Some people cry about lack of loyalty in football, but then players get criticised for being loyal.

Reports in Italian and Belgian media outlets that Nainggolan is heading to China. First Witsel, now Radja. What a waste.

fecking hell. Why.....??? Go to China in a couple of years and get a big wedge then anyway!

If Radja agrees to going to China, while rejecting moves to Chelsea and United these past few years, then he's really got his priorities wrong. I can't see why he'd want to move a few months before the world cup, especially given that Martinez wasn't picking him in some of the Belgium squads prior.

I'm pretty sure this is one of the reasons. He won't go to the World Cup. He made himself impossible (to Martinez at least) and his recent antics at Roma won't help.

perhaps accumulating as much wealth as he can within the finite window he has is more important to him than football.

What's he done to Martinez and at Roma for this turnaround?

Yeah and I think if that's the case, then his prioritise in life are wrong. Besides, it's not like he wouldn't be paid well at some of the big clubs that would make a move for him.

They apparently pay big wages there.

Yeah but he will get that anyway in a couple of years time. Surely, move to likes of Chelsea or the like. Try for CL and then go to China to get extraordinary amount of money.

He would have earned more at both united and Chelsea than Roma I would guess so don’t think he has always been purely about money

Except that he turns 30 in a few months and probably wouldn't get the big bucks if we went there at 32 or 33 compared with 30 (which still gives him a few good years of high quality performances).

???? I thought Roma and him reupped on a new deal last summer.

Yeah, but he actually has to put in the effort to keep up with the schedule and demands of the EPL. The guy is a drama queen, too many personal demands, undisciplined, rebel mentality. He wouldn't be able to handle the criticism of the English media.

He posted videos on instagram being drunk and smoking on NYE. Martinez wants him to change his lifestyle and his attitude, which he won't.

Which is fair enough but fans should be able to judge him on it.
True, but in the end, he goes home and lives his life and probably has a longer-term vision than the passing musings of fans who don't care much for him other than being the topic of the day.

I do believe some players become jaded well before retirement, he may well be one of them, who knows?

He could be thinking about having enough money to finance his family line generations beyond now. In that context, would you say football is more important?

If his objective is to get the biggest wages available to him then getting paid pretty well wouldn't be as appealing as getting eye-watering amounts.

As I said above, possibly Not, but life has a habit of changing one's outlook.

Every time I hear stories about him it's about him being miserable for something or other. He's also often reported to be out on the lash, which is not the attitude of someone who's in love with the game.

What antics?

As couple of guys mentioned before, on NY evening he put videos online of him swearing, smoking, drinking... He was fined, I believe 100.000€, by Roma and banned from the team for a couple of games.
Martinez hasn't selected him for a while due to the same reasons, being not professional enough, smoking, being late...

He's a character to say the least. I think he would rather play football for fun, without the pressure. Earning 10 million € a year doing so, not that bad...

Right, but he could be earning very good money in a competitive team and league, with the hope of making the world cup squad. The thing is, if it was all about money he'd have left Roma years ago.

Yeah cheers.
