Radiohead are "a matter of weeks" away from completing their next studio release, according to the band's guitarist Ed O'Brien.

He told 6 Music's Adam Buxton that the Oxford five-piece changed their working methods on the new material, to avoid the lengthy recording process involved in recent albums such as In Rainbows.

"It was such a slog. We decided at the end of the record never to do it like this again. That was kind of the end of Radiohead mark two."

This is a nice bit of good news, lets hope the completion of the album goes a smoothly as it sounds like it has so far and we can see a release this year

:D It can't be as good as 'In Rainbows' can it? Or can it? Who knows. I love Radiohead. Maybe too much.

We say the same thing every time and they keep on delivering Mike, time after time

As for loving Radiohead "too much", is that even possible?

I can't fecking wait, new album means a new tour, yes fecking please, no better live band around currently.

Brilliant.

My mate's interviewing Thom in Mid-August. I'm not jealous at all.

Yeah? How the feck did he wangle that?

From what I know his thesis is based around the role of technology in music, and he sent the proposal to someone in the Radiohead camp, and basically asked that he get a chance to do some questions by email with the band, as they were one of his main reference points.

Someone got back to him and said that Thom was very interested (and has apparently written a foreword to a book in roughly the same vein) and asked whether he'd be interested in having a sit down with Thom at some stage in the future. My mate agreed, and a few months on having assumed that Thom had forgotten, he got a voicemail from the man himself suggesting that they meet to discuss it.

Apparently he's a very accomodating bloke.

I'm not a Radiohead fan but my respect for Thom Yorke grew a bit after he appeared on Flyng Lotus's latest album. I tried to get into OK Computer but I absolutely hated it, tried Kid A and liked it much more, probably because it's more electronic.

That's pretty fecking cool, he's a lucky guy.

Wouldn't mind reading that when it's done.

This is pleasing. I may try and go to see them in concert if and whey they play in the North West.

You really should lad, can't believe you've never been to a gig, you need to have a word with yourself :nono:

Yeah, no worries, whenever he's got it it all thrown together I'll fire it over in an email to you.

Cheers fella

To be honest most of the artists and bands I'd really like to see are either retired or dead. I wish I was born sooner :(

Widen your horizons then Elvis, there are some fecking great bands/artists out there right now who you could go and see and get into, just takes some hunting and listening to recommendations as they come along that's all.

When I think prog, I think 15 minute wanky guitar solos and displays of crazy technical instrumentation. That's not Radiohead at all.

You can't catorgarise Radiohead as prog, they're nothing of the sort. In fact, catorgarising them at all is pretty pointless, they've done to much varied stuff to be pigeon holed like that.

Oh and shut up Count :p

What's the latest on this anyone know? Not heard 'owt from NME or the like for a while.

Heard recently Radiohead fans were being targeted online for file-sharing. Anyway, hope this album comes sooner rather than later, need some good music at some point this year!

Hopefully Fleet Foxes and Radiohead save the winter.

Radiohead have taken a break from recording their new LP -- despite saying it was nearly finished last month.

As reported by Spinner on June 21, guitarist Ed O'Brien had said the new release would be ready in "a matter of weeks".

But now drummer Phil Selway has revealed they've decided to walk away from the studio for a while, despite the fact the band had previously hinted the much-anticipated record was due out this year.

DigitalSpy reports Selway said, "We keep on hitting those points where you think, 'We're there'. And then you think, 'No, it's not'. We're having a break from it at the moment...and then we'll come back to it later in the summer and see where we are."

He added, "It's not finished yet. It's still ongoing. We like where we are so far."

Selway also declined to reveal a release date for their eight studio album, even though O'Brien had previously hinted it "had to be" out sometime in 2010.

The band started the follow-up to 2007's 'In Rainbows' in May 2009. O'Brien has said of it, "I feel like this is the best record we ever made. It really is genuinely exciting. It's very different from what we did last time."

FFUUUUUUU-

Damnit. I expect they will pull another In Rainbows type surprise drop on us again.

Yeah me too. After reading countless opinions that it was the best album of all time etc, I thought I'd at least find something in it to appreciate but I was disappointed.

I didn't like either The Bend or OK Computer at all when they'd top Q's polls all the time in the late 90's, I dunno what it was. But then Kid A came out, and like instantly it was one of my favourite albums of all time(it was weird because at the time people who loved Radiohead shat on it and everything), and ever since I've grown to love both The Bends and OK Computer, insanely so, they have incredible replay value for me as well, all 3 of them.

It felt horribly wrong when some bird told me their on the Twilight soundtrack. WTF?

Thom played a song called 'Give Up The Ghost' at the Big Chill, referring to it as 'a new Radiohead tune':
