Race for top 4 | Finito.

I wasnt wrong and I didnt admit anything. At that time we had a cushion and my logic was its always better to look up than worry whats below. I dont know whats with some of you which go from panic to panic all the time.
Spurs are incosistent and if we can muster 6 points in the next 2 games we'll be well or you're worry about Spurs till the last day of the season?
We wouldn't have Casemiro in those 2 matches.

I'm surprised about to see the levels of confidence around the next couple of games. Yes they're at home but Brentford are a good, high energy team and Everton are starting to pick up points again. We on the other hand look absolutely gassed, and desperately need back Casemiro, Eriksen and Garnacho.

I just hope ETH drops Wout for the next couple of games. Even if Martial isn't ready to start. Between Rashford, Pellistri, Anthony and Sancho we can cobble together a front three which would be better than any line up that includes Wout. He may work hard but his technical ability is so terrible it's a massive disadvantage to our overall game, and I think it's beginning to undermine confidence throughout the team.

Fred also absolutely has to start, the McTominay/Sabitzer pairing is a horror show.

Re: Top 4 in general I still hope Tottenham nick it ahead of Newcastle. The cognitive dissonance shown by pundits casting them as the plucky underdogs while at the same time saying Qatari ownership of Man United would destroy football is really unappetising, but also seeing the dressing room celebrations on Sunday like they'd just won the league and Howe/Burn's comments after the game sealed it. feck those guys.
It’s not over confidence but we should beat Brentford. They have something stupid like 3 wins in 9 or so and we have an unreal home record on top of that.

Yeah, I've seen video of Howe adressing the players like they just won the CL.

Since the 3-0 win over Bournemouth on 3rd of Jan I dont think we have had a single home game in the Premier League where I felt we played really well over the 90 minutes, we were lucky against City with the onside call, we were poor against Palace who were the better team at times and had us clinging on to the game at the end, was poor against a poor Leeds side and had to come back from 2 down, did ok against Leicester but gave them too many chances and with better finishing from their players it could have been a whole different scoreline, and were terrible against Southampton.

As much as it hurts to say it but to be honest Brentford are a better side than us at the moment and could easilly take all 3 points.

You'll probably get a few insults for that post, but I think it's pretty accurate.

We were lifted by an incredible Rashford purple patch for a few months, but now he's regressed to the mean we just don't score or even threaten enough goals to regularly control matches. Obviously we're not suddenly a bad team, but all the opponents you mention, bar City, are worse than Brentford.

This is going to be a very difficult match. Ten Hag needs to find solutions to our immediate problems, and quickly.

Looking at the form and fixtures, I could see Aston Villa making a late challenge for 4th place They still have to play Spurs and Newcastle too.

Having a look at all the remaining fixtures it's very unlikely that United miss out purely because the teams around us all still have to play each other.

I think 68 points will be enough this season, so that's six wins or five wins and three draws from eleven matches.

I honestly don’t think we will get anything more than a point from Brentford and Everton. We haven’t won well in the league for a few months (results have massively masked poor performances) and currently we can’t score or even look like scoring.
Martial been fit might be our saving grace but the WW ploy up front isn’t working and is costing us CL football. Why he keeps insisting on it is killing our chances - ETHs stubbornness could well see us finish outside the top 4, maybe top 6.
I don’t see where all the positivity comes from on here - our run in is mostly teams in form with lots to play for. We can’t score. Confidence is low. We haven’t played well for a long, long time.

I think our last genuinely impressive performance was the win against Barca in late February. Since then, we've had a handful of solid performances, a fair few chaotic performances where we've often come out with a result, and a couple of complete disasters.

I don’t know why ETH should be called stubborn. He tries to learn from our performances. He’s only playing WW because Martial has been injured and he doesn’t have a lot of choice.

We’ve won something stupid like 15 out of our last 17 home games. Games aren’t meant to be easily won in the EPL
Brentford are simply not better than us

Brentford beat us 4-0 earlier this season, they also beat Southampton and Liverpool easilly while we lost 7-0 to Liverpool and only managed a pathetic 0-0 draw with Southampton at home.

Yeah mate, that's how football works. We've probably beaten a few teams that Brentford couldn't beat as well.

It's going to be a tough game, especially with key players still unavailable, but at home we should be looking to beat everyone, by hook or by crook.

But then Liverpool lost 6-2 to Real Madrid who are currently 12 points behind Barcelona, who we knocked out of Europe. Where does it end?

And Madrid hammered Liverpool while Barca hammered Madrid while United beat Barca.

You’re literally cherry picking around their poor results. We’ve also beaten Southampton and Liverpool as well this season

I think the home game against Betis was also genuinely impressive, particularly the second half.

In this level it is all about fine margins. I can’t overstate this enough.

If you do not have your best player, Casemiro, for about 7 games - that is 21 points. Look at the table in see where Man Utd’s position would be if we gained or losses that.

It is Casemiro’s fault if we do not get top4. He let the team down.

You can say this or that, but if you took the best player from any of the top 5 right now, they would not be in their position.

Can we actually get points on top of points we get anyway for when we play without Casemiro? The last time he was out for 3 games we got 7 out of 9 points, so we would have got 16 out of 9 points if he wasn't out.

Eventually, we'll have to master the art of easily winning games. If every single game is a struggle, we'll never get anywhere - look at Arsenal and City, they have a goal difference of 40+ because they regularly put teams to the sword.

But for now, every game is on a knife's edge for us and Brentford will be no different. They'll probably be fresher and more up for it. It would be no surprise if they won.

Ah here come the time exaggerations where the 5 weeks after the cup win included an international break, 4 wins in cup games but 3 bad league games, is now a few months of bad form where results masked bad performances

I was just going through the stats, if we win our two home games in hand we will have a better home record than Arsenal and we already have the best defensive home record in the league
I put this perception of home struggles down to fan nerves.
It’ll be one hell of a surprise if a team comes to OT on top of that with 3 away wins to their name and beats us.

This is true. You were bad last season, losing 4-0 to Watford for example, now your performances are much better as a whole. You need a couple more decent signings, if you had signed a top forward in the summer you’d be up with the top 2. Whatever happens, the turn around has been phenomenal. Hope that happens for my team *cough**cough*

Not up there with top 2 because would still have holes in the first XI at GK (modern style) RB and CM which affects how we play

Not actually true, weve got 38 points at home, United 30, so if you win 2 more home games you get 36. Still a very impressive record, just not better than Arsenal.

Obviously no kid in the other squads who could offer a goal threat off the bench for he remaining fixtures?

Some of our fans on here were so arrogant a month ago or so saying that we're not in top 4 race and even ridiculed those who were worried we might start dropping points because of all the competitions we're playing. It happened and we're now 5th and definitely in top 4 race. Season ends end of May, not end of February.

Most are still arrogant about it, after a bit of goalpost shifting of course.

It's useful for spotting the posters who's opinions aren't worth listening to.

Brighton right on our arse if they win tonight, we really need positive results v Brentford, Everton and Forest as I’m not fancying us getting much at Spurs or Brighton with our crap away form.

How are we always ~20 points behind the leaders even when we have a decent season? It's so sickening.

Because we're decent, not great. A DM finally like many of us have been wanting for 3+ seasons helps.

But we like any productive forwards aside from Rashford. We've all been wanting a RW for a long while now but we've signed Sancho and Antony and neither are good enough and I doubt ever will be (they stat padded in a top team in top heavy leagues).

Pool when they were ruling had Mane Firmino and Salah.

They lost to City usually because City have about 7 good attackers. Pool came close when they finally signed Diaz to give some rotation to the front 3.

Arsenal have Saka who is great, and then Martinelli and Jesus are productive. They've signed Trossard who is a player that I've long wanted and he is too good not to be productive.

In short for me what we lack vs City and Arsenal really is a striker but also another productive wide forward. Which is why after a striker I'd prioritise a forward like Mitoma ahead of an expensive midfielder, and instead go for lower options like Lavia + Sabitzer.

A decent season? We’ve been a disgrace away from home all season. If that’s decent then standards aren’t particularly high.

We must have a fair chance now, christ what an appointment Emery was after the fraud he replaced.

Brighton Brighton Brighton is the correct answer anyway. They can beat Man. United at home and win some of their tricky away games like Spurs so I reckon they can push past 60 points and they'll be very close with that points haul.

I'm much more worried about Brighton than Spurs.

Forgot where I heard it, but after the Newcastle game this team is only 3 points ahead of where they were at the same time last season.

Two from United, Newcastle, Spurs, Brighton. Think us and Newcastle will just do it unless Spurs appoint some top class manager in the next week or two. Brighton a remarkable performance but will just come up short of top 4, hope they get europa.
