Race for top 4 | Finito.

A top 4 race always brings out the drama llamas. We'll win our next 3 and all will look good again.
The last time we won three in a row in the Premier League was in January.

Let's hope Everton will not feck it up now though.

And there we are. People really need to acknowledge the likes of Spurs are utter gash.

We can drop as many points as we like and we'll still get 4th.

every post that includes the words if Spurs wins the next x should have the poster banned from this thread

That was not the conversation a few weeks before the internationals. The goalposts are moving rapidly. The talk was on chasing down City, maybe even an outside crack at the title.

Spurs should be getting their new manager burst, much like Utd did with ETH. They will want that fourth spot and the money that goes with it. Rashford, Varane and Casemiro can't carry Utd each and every game.
…and here we are.

If we can't beat Spurs (with two games in hand) and Newcastle to top four, we only have ourselves to blame.

I expected a post Conte bounce. But it was a very flat Spurs performance. The way they went into their shell after 1-0 v ten men was so Spursy.

Brighton is a bigger worry than Spurs. Same with Liverpool.

But generally I think we'll have a couple of games to spare

A huge let-off for us. Hard to see us getting more than 15-16 points in the remaining games so results like this are crucial.

I know we've got two games in hand but the fact we are 5th is pretty shameful. This Spurs team is so so bad and have sacked their manager ffs.

We need to get out arses in gear this week. No more slip ups.

This is 18/19 all over again, lets just hope we are the team that stumbles over the finish line for 4th.

We should manage 4 points from our next two games despite playing with a sub standard CM.

It's not that bad. They are where they pretty much should be. They only sacked him because he wanted out.

If we finish below both Tottenham and Newcastle then ETH really should be rigorously questioned by all.

Yep they definitely bursted tonight!

Its over may as well face it. Will be more Europa next season. Kane will go to Newcastle, The Glazers will stay at United and we will buy back Lukaku to be our number nine.

Too positive?

Top 4 odds
MUFC 1/5
Saudi Arabia 1/2
Liverpool 13/5
Spurs 11/4
Brighton 6/1

Bookies even give Liverpool a better chance than Spurs after tonight.

We just need to somehow find a way to win in these two games without Casemeiro. With him, Martial and Eriksen back in the side I'd back us to start picking up a lot of points. The problem is that the drop in quality from these three to their backup options is absolutely massive. Weghourst, McTominay, and Fred just aren't good enough to cut it at our level.

With the run in we have now looking at the league it’ll be really poor if we can’t get CL footy. Seems like a real decline in quality across the board this season.

If we can find 10 points from the next 6 games I think we'll be fine.

Brentford (H) - Everton (H) - Forest (A) - Spurs (A) - Villa (H) - Brighton (A)

I have a feeling Brighton will be tough, so it's probably 10 from 5.

That would put us at 60, and we should be able to pick up another 10 in the last 5 games, getting us to 70 points, which I think will be the cutoff this season:

West Ham (A) - Wolves (H) - Bournemouth (A) - Chelsea (H) - Fulham (H)

Hopefully we'll be in a position (either through our own excellence or some of the other teams' bottling) where we can play second string versus Fulham if we get to the EL final.

No win in the last 3 for us in the league, can't expect to still be 4th after that run

In this level it is all about fine margins. I can’t overstate this enough.

If you do not have your best player, Casemiro, for about 7 games - that is 21 points. Look at the table in see where Man Utd’s position would be if we gained or losses that.

It is Casemiro’s fault if we do not get top4. He let the team down.

You can say this or that, but if you took the best player from any of the top 5 right now, they would not be in their position.

A very weird comment given its Kane who has carried Spurs this year with Son fading and Kulusevski carrying on his Juventus scoring rate of 1 goal every 7 games.

Flipping heck, Klopp will be getting charged for murder in that case.
Klopp can get away with a bad season as he trophies in the bank that buy him forgiveness, ten hag finishing the season with that tin pot trophy and no champions league does not afford such a luxury after spending 200 million as well.

I'm sure you thought we'd beat Southampton, Leeds and Palace recently too.

We had an 8 point lead over Newcastle and we've blown it. It's shambolic.

If we scrape top 4 it will be very, very ugly and we'll be relying a lot on Spurs being shit.

So we should sack ETH if we don’t get top 4?

Calm yourself. Why would somebody think we would win every single one of those? We were on a massive win streak. That's why we dropped points to Palace. It is hard to maintain massive win streaks. Leeds was on the back of 4 straight wins and right before barcelona and the cup final. Bringing up 2 draws over a span of 20 games since the world cup until the Liverpool defeat, where we won 16, drew 3 and loss 1 game... the feck are you expecting? To win every single game?
Southampton we drew because we got an early dumb red. Move on. It happens.

Yes, Newcastle clawed back some points as they played Wolves at home, Forest away, and United at home. We played Liverpool away, Newcastle away and Southampton at home (where we fecked up due to a red card and a garbage referee not giving us a clear pen, yes). Newcastle's next 5 games have 4 away games (brentford, west ham, villa, everton) and a home game vs Spurs. Good luck to them. We'll see how close they are to us after this period, as we have 3 home games (Brentford, Everton, and Villa) while we have 2 away games (Spurs and Forest). Don't ignore fixture difficulty. My guess is Newcastle gets maybe 7-9 points from that group of 5 games, while we get around 10-13. In which case, we open up a ~4 point gap.

He can get away with a bad season, although you’re right. He should be up for murder with how bad they’ve been. The media darling won’t get much criticism though.
