Race for top 4 | Finito.

I really think that the two coming games are massive in the chase for top 4. Thing is basically we can lose 6 points when our rivals can have 6 and already put some distances.

Let s make some maths.

Arsenal - 44 points (play Spurs and United)
City - 39 points (play United and Spurs)
Newcastle - 35 points (play Fulham and Palace)
United - 35 points (play City and Arsenal)
Spurs - 33 points (Play Arsenal and City)
Pool - 28 points (play Brighton and Chelsea)

I see after these games

Arsenal - 50 points (two wins)
Cit - 45 points (two wins)
Newcastle - 41 points (two wins)
United - 35 points (two defeats)
Pool - 34 points (two wins)
Spurs - 33 points (two defeats)

This went well. Hahahah

Looks done to me.
The contenders outside it at the moment look bang average.

Well we certainly don't have to worry about Spurs

Top four teams decided? After this weekend can you really see other team getting into the top four outside of the existing top four.. I cannot see it.

The football gods won't allow Liverpool not to be there, if the GK scoring in the 93 minute 2 years ago didn't prove that nothing will

We need to do everything we can to beat Palace. That's the important game. I feel if we win that, we can be semi confident that we'll likely get top four.

This is a good result for us IMO. More concerned with dropping Newcastle and Tottenham than chasing City and Arsenal. We're not on that level of consistency just yet. Top 4 is the goal first and foremost.

Liverpool are the only team that I feel are still a threat who are not currently in the top 4.

I think this is the weakest the league has been for a long time. The fact that an average Newcastle are 3rd and a shocking Spurs team are 5th tells it all really!

Ideally a spurs win or a draw here and we're in the Prem race.

You can spin it either way though...If Arsenal win, we have less competition for top 4, putting us potentially 8 clear of 5th and Champions League football for next season looking more likely.

Still prefer option 1 though.

We're not catching Arsenal bar something extraordinary happening, so Spuds losing is good.

It really is about Liverpool and/or Chelsea for me. Chelsea have been dreadful but they have loads of injuries and will have players coming in.

I believe Potter will get them going - the question is how quickly.

Top 3 for us this season. I'd be delighted with that tbh.

Add 2/3 top players over summer and next year could be a great one for us.

Would have to see the tables at the time to be sure, but they were much worse a couple of years ago in the behind closed doors season weren't they?
We drew at their place, and then they lost the next 6 or 7 hoe league games!

If they can recover from that for top 4, they can certainly not be written off just yet.

Liverpool really miss Diaz, if he came back that could give them a boost, how longs he still out for?

If we ignore the title race, top 4 hopes are looking quite promising.

Correct me if I’m wrong but is it that we’re 5 points clear and with a game in hand?

I'm more bothered about us getting 3 points in the Palace game than Arsenal. Win that and next Sunday is a bit of a free hit and we'll be in a good position regardless.

Top 4 looks like a dead race at the moment unless a Brighton comes racing though the pack

Feel like Newcastle are going to collapse. They won't keep this up till the end of the season given their jammy performances and style of play. Arsenal are probably winning the title unless they do an absolute classic Arse bottlejob.

Frankly, I don't care about the title race. A comfortable top 4 with good style of play and new owners is more than I would have imagined. On that front I think we're mostly secured. 4th place is either going to go to Liverpool or Spurs. I won't write Conte off, he has a knack for these things despite how poor Spurs are performing. On the other hand Liverpool are quite fecking lucky themselves, so I don't know who to pick but the 4th place is going to go to one of them.

Agree with all of this. I too just don't feel we're there yet, but don't mind players believing we are and picking as many points as possible.

Possible win at Palace would put us in strong position top 4 wise which is most important atm.

it's probably wishful thinking but I'd like to think we're in a position similar to Chelsea back in 2013/14, where they looked like they could go win it but ultimately were 3rd best team in the league. Then they got Fabregas and Costa in summer and won it comfortably. It was a different league back then but I hope we follow that path of doing fairly well and upgrading on it with few quality signings to get us on that next level.

I still think there are twists in it and that Liverpool and Chelsea will make their way up the table over the coming weeks

Exactly how I see it. Naturally everyone’s banging on about the Arsenal game because Arsenal and United are the two in-form teams in the league (hello 90’s!)

But I just want to beat Palace right now and go into that Arsenal match knowing that a loss won’t be the end of the world

I'm also in the top four is the priority camp. To be even mentioned in a title race, even as outsiders, is just a bonus I doubt anyone expected. It wasn't that long ago it looked as if even a top four place was going to be an ask. A cup and a CL place would be an excellent return for Erik's first season and a great launching pad for things to come, all things considered.

I don't think Chelsea have any chance, they're really poor and they still have to go away to

Spurs
Utd
City
Liverpool
Arsenal.

Spurs have been so poor this season yet are on 33 points so they're still in the top 4 race league position wise, though you wouldn't expect them to actually compete for top 4 with their performances.

I hope for a draw between Liverpool and Chelsea but you'd expect Liverpool to win it at Anfield. Draw would keep both teams away from us.

The only team outside the top 4 that I can see proving to be a threat if they can find some sort of form from somewhere is Liverpool. Spurs don’t fill me with any confidence under Conte & Chelsea are just a huge mess just now.

Agree.

Win that and we can finally avoid relegation after that rough start... Phew!

Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs could all get some form together and at least one of them is likely to put a challenge in. Newcastle must be most at risk of dropping off a touch.

Complacency is always the worry though. We need to keep playing every game like it’s a cup final until Top 4 is secured.

I think we’re (Man Utd) either gonna challenge for the tittle or get a few key injuries and get into a battle for top 4.

It’s only halfway in the season. People talking with so much certainty...

Newcastle winning is good. I can't see them continuing this form anyway and hopefully this kills Liverpool (who I still fear the most) and Chelsea motivation. Arsenal and City are better teams than us on paper, so If we can keep up with them I'm super happy. Then the 4th place is for whoever fecks the least games.

Still think we will struggle for goals at some point this season, but I fully trust this defense to prevent us from conceding goals.

If Spurs get top 4 then Kane will stay put. It'll be between them and Newcastle for the last spot I reckon; Liverpool and Chelsea imploding right now and have too much to do to get back up to compete for CL.
