Queen Elizabeth II | 1926-2022 | Rest in Peace

10 days of national mourning I think I read.

If people were fed up of the Duke of Edinburgh documentaries by the second hour you ain't seen nothing yet.....
That must include 1 maybe 2 bank holidays right? I can’t imagine it being anything over 2. Although in the Middle East/Gulf they usually do 3 public holidays (re: mourning days) when a monarch or head of state dies.

We know exactly what will happen, because the "Operation London Bridge" documents were all leaked to The Guardian.

Truss will be loving it - an early opportunity to look statesmanlike.

Louis XIV still the GOAT.

His finance minister, "The" something built a chateaux, it even outshone Versales, where the king lived. In the end, Louis clapped him in irons.

They'll be one for the funeral, Phillip one was on the Friday IIRC.

No football? Can't she just claw & hold on until late November? It's just around the fecking corner.

Yes that was exact article I read, think it came out in 2017 but couldn't remember.

Might aswell move her back down to London before the rail strikes start up again..... :nervous:

It's not shocking that a 96-year-old will die of natural causes, it's shocking that this particular 96-year-old may be in her last hours. When I was 18 she'd already been queen for about 25 years.
I think i'm somewhat prepared at this point. Though obviously it means a fraction to me as I'm sure it does to you. The future has been too common, too frequent a topic of conversation for a while and covid too present a danger to not have considered the possibility.

when she does die, it will have the quality of stalin's state funeral, or diana's. what, exactly, are you mourning? or mao's. collective hysteria. and i have nothing against the queen even though the idea of monarchy is insane.

Sounds like she is quite likely unconscious and dieing. Will be a sad moment when she does pass away whatever you think of the Monarchy. She has been one constant throughout our lives (and the lives of our parents and grandparents)

Key bit of operation London Bridge is No bank holiday. Day of mourning 10 days later for funeral - if it falls on a weekend a bank holiday will not be created and if it falls on weekday employers will not be told to let staff have day off.

Aren’t you in Italy? How does it affect your day to day life who’s the King or Queen?

I’m in the UK and it has little to zero effect on mine.
I doubt it will affect our lives wherever we are. We may get the odd person asking us about it, as if we'd know sfa but people here are kind. When @Penna was on a cruise when Diana died she kept getting Americans come up, grab her arm and ask her how she was, how she felt! Ridiculous but people are just being kind.

We read the British media, we watch BBC - we have it on at present but as a business owner in the UK I suppose we may get some impact when most workers get a day or whatever off while our employees cannot, what might be any implications if any at all. We all saw how the country behaved when Diana died.

We're still British citizens, we're not full time out in Italy, I'm a republican, but also as Penna said she is what we've known all our lives, why shouldn't we take an interest and behave as if we have round doors to our smial?

Fair dos. Wasn’t having a go or anything but was curious to know.

Like I said, other than a couple of days off hopefully I doubt it’ll have any impact on my life.

Might also be because I’m from a BAME background that I’ve always had a more innate indifference / dislike to all things Monarchy.

Indeed!

Some of the details of the leaked documents were hilarious, like the fact that there was great concern in Downing Street that it would face a wave of public anger if it cannot lower its flags to half-mast within 10 minutes of the Queen dying because it does not employ a permanent flag officer and therefore was not certain there will always be somebody present who is able to lower the flag.

No, I don't see your post as anything other than chatting, getting the pov.

It was the previous comment that made me smile with a bit of confusion.

Edit. It's something that I think quite a lot of Italians and Europeans in general may take quite an interest in, the Royal Family get a lot of media coverage here, more so before the break up of Diana died because she was seen as attractive and glamorous while the rest are a bit dumpy but a large family who create a few stories.

Christ, who knows, but does sound pretty ominous.
It's even a breaking news banner on USA Today and a big story in the Straits Times here. Thought the mass coverage would be more of a UK thing.

Not to be insensitive but given this is a football forum, does the PL get postponed if she dies?

I think its not unreasonable to set aside opinions on monarchy and think of the individual involved for a brief time. There'll be plenty of time to hold weaker examples feet to the fire.

The world have a fascination for the Royal Family.

A rundown on what we can all expect, when she dies:

https://www.politico.eu/article/queen-elizabeth-death-plan-britain-operation-london-bridge/

No bank holiday.

The prime minister and the queen have agreed that the day of the state funeral will be a “Day of National Mourning.” This has also led to planning issues. The day will effectively be a bank holiday, although it will not be named as such. If the funeral falls on the weekend or an existing bank holiday, an extra bank holiday will not be granted. If the funeral falls on a weekday, the government does not plan to order employers to give employees the day off — the documents say that is a matter between employees and their staff.

I believe so but would depend on the timing I'd have thought.

Yeah, saying that, I remember prince William's wedding was on TV in Sicily, where we assumed we'd avoid all that.
