PSG and Leipzig - We’ll never get out of the group!

I reckon I was willing to bet that PSG would beat us, but bar that I thought we had a decent chance to grab the 2o place. Glad I was proven wrong and we managed to beat PSG as well.

Some of our fans are more interested in being proved right than actually enjoying a good win. Strange people.

Let's start getting some points in the league. It will be a very open competition this year and with our team and now good back ups we should be challenging for the title

Really should be 2 no brainer wins against Istanbul and we're qualified with 2 games to spare. Incredible start, but just need to capitalize on that and not feck up. Good thing our attacking depth is brilliant, any 2 of cavani/martial/greenwood/rashford to start both with the other 2 starting the league games would have me very confident still.

I agree that they were both great wins. On paper we have a better starting 11 than PSG, RB and Istanbul which is why I thought that, do you agree or not?
So you can’t find a quote before the game, no worries.

So my opinion HAS to be posted on the caf for it to be true. I see, interesting.
Nope, the reason I say this is because the narrative before the group started was that we were going to be knocked out and are in the ‘group of death’ (for example see the Europe league tweet). So I was giving you the opportunity to demonstrate that you always felt that way which would make your opinion consistent.

I just find it a bit undermining now that we appear to be in a strong position it turns out the group wasn’t that hard after all (this isn’t direct at you by the way, more a general point at the negative Nancy’s) and we supposedly now have a ‘good hand’, a little frustrating to be honest when I’d rather celebrate united comfortably beating the finalists and semi finalists of last year.

You're right, it's unfair.

Will no one think of the OleInbetweeners? Pft.
Exactly! but I guess that's what you get for being in the middle. No need for ba ha ha ha ha Ole is so stupid or ba ha ha ha ha Ole is so smart and handsome. No fireworks.

I see what you’re saying and you may be correct.

However, it’s a very sad state of affairs when posts revelling in United’s success can be considered provocative by half of the fan base...

surely Ole outers can just enjoy being wrong, for however long it lasts, and Ole iners can appreciate that Ole outers just disagree as to what is best for the club?
I just think that such thread will be filled with discussion about him than the actual group stage and there are enough Ole threads already.

That and I don't like jinx attempts.

4 more points isn’t enough if Istanbul are the whipping boys.

It might very well be - realistically Leipzig need to take 8 more points to beat us if we get 10 points. So if Leipzig beat the Turks away, they still need to grab 4 points in the 3 matches against us and PSG - no guarantee they will.

But if we get 11 points - I think we will qualify, no guarantee with 10.

We just HAVE to get those 6 points, it would release a massive weight from the shoulders of the team and allow better squad management.

Why would I make a whole thread before the games?

Argued with plenty of people during the draw threads. Embarrassing how scared many were.

Quite obviously the best time to point it out too.

Fair enough. It just comes across very reactionary after 2 wins.

Fair point well made.

as it stands we are doing exceptionally well in a very hard group and deserve our lead which is the best part!

Away to PSG and vs Naglesmann who would make a fool of Ole - apparently.

My point was that if you were so confident, you surely would have made this thread after the group was drawn. It loses it's desired effect when it comes across reactionary based on 2 wins.

Just as an aside; I'm not sure Tuchel is too highly rated these days. Most see him as clinging onto his job as opposed to building something big at PSG.

I'm in full agreement with you regarding the general consensus being that it was 'a group of death' beforehand.

For me, I had a more positive outlook before the group stages albeit realising how good PSG and Leipzig can be on their day. We have the players to trouble these teams and I did have that belief that we could do well in this group.

Not trying to undermine these wins though, it shows that we can hang with very good European teams.

Fair enough mate! Perhaps if anything I’m underrating the team.

And my point is this is obviously the time to point out how wrong people were, it absolutely has it’s desired effect as it has happened. I’m assuming you wern’t one of the people telling me we would be in the Europa league soon enough, so it doesn’t really mean much to you.

Yeah, his team didn’t seem right on the night.

As I said, if you had been arguing this beforehand then fair enough I'll take your word. Our team is ridiculously underrated by some on here. Our lineup was far stronger than what Leipzig put out the other night and we had Fernandes, Cavani and Rashford to come on from the bench.

I don't think he's top level, but it was still great work by Ole to tactically outclass him.

Group blown wide open with RB beating PSG.

Surprised that we are still favourites to win the group. I see us finishing on 7 or 9 points, with PSG and RBL both on 12, or 10 and 13 respectively.

The hubris around PSG in this thread really isn’t going to age well.

We really never make things easy for ourselves do we, all we had to do was get the 6 points from Istanbul and it was all but guaranteed.

If Und has been a consistent team then this justified, but when have we been consistent in the past few years? Apart from dreadful?

That's why I hate this kind of thread, a couple of wins then chanting bring on Barca, RM, we are ready. A couple of loss then sack the manager, sell half of the squad.

In tonite game, complacency flash into my mind, in both the manager's on setup (4231, attacking on away?) and the players themselves - they are just old men and kids.

So what result do we want in the PSG Leipzig game?

Let's assume we win tonight (big if I know)

If Leipzig win it means PSG can get a maximum of 9 points but still leaves the possibility they could finish ahead of us on head to head if we lose our last 2 games.

PSG win puts them on 6 points, Leipzig on 6 and us on 9, with our last to games being PSG and Leipzig. Really not comfortable in this scenario.

Draw still leaves it open for us to not qualify, but may increase the chance of us finishing top.

I've no idea, assuming we're just aiming for qualification and aren't that fussed about top spot, then I assume Leipzig win over PSG is best for us but I could be wrong.

Losing to Istanbul in that first game has made this moot really. Doesn't really matter how those two fair against each now for me. We lost the chance to have an easy route through, now we gotta go and do another job on one of the two, couldn't be arsed which one it is.

RB win all the way. PSG will be deflated and they'll need to score at least two and win at OT next week. We'll slice them open on the counter. RB will be qualified by the time we face them so worst case we'd need a point against a less motivated opponent.

Qualify first, worry about top position later.

We need PSG to win tonight as long as we win. We would then only have to get a draw at Leipzig or PSG to go through.
