Just a reminder that @DixieDean has not posted much since Elvis insulted him for no reason.
I don't even remember that

I have not posted much because I'm so over console wars. I just don't care. And these threads always end up that way. It is what it is at this stage.

The news that the mighty Xbox Series X UI will be running in 1080p really made me laugh I must say

Except that news hasn't come out. All we know is the preview builds UI is 1080p and that the One X had 1080p cause they wanted to give extra ram to the games.

It still may be 4k for release. And if not, it's purely because they think the resources could be better utilized to make the games as great as possible

Ah I know I'm just trying to wind you guys up :p

Both UI's look pretty great anyway. It'll be all about utilizing those SSD's

I'm hoping they (xbox) do give the UI a boost before launch - will be a shame if its not native 4K. Although I understand its for the games etc instead - it's still a shame.

I'd imagine they will eventually, but to be fair it's probably one of those things that 99% of people won't even notice.

Agreed. I think for me though - it's about the initial experience. i.e. every time I bump up to a new generation, I can't wait to turn on the console for the first time and see the difference when it loads up. Experience the new controller etc. I can't wait for the X - but to me it IS a shame that the controller is virtually the same, the same UI as the One etc.

Yeah they have just gone for raw power in the hope it will gloss over the fact that everything else is the same and that they're releasing no exclusive games (hence their massive focus and push on gamepass).

@esmufc07 @afrocentricity and anybody else that think Xbox Series X isn't going to have some fantastic first party output should watch this video

More studios to come no doubt, and obviously doesn't really give insight into what publishing deals could come (Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Ori & the Blind Forest, Cuphead - some of the best Xbox exclusives last gen were 2nd party)

The is perhaps my most unpopular opinion, but I don't 'get' HDR at all. I can't see any difference on my TV!
It depends on the content of course, but in games with good HDR the difference is clearly noticeable. I went from non-HDR to HDR while playing Death Stranding and the difference as staggering in that title.

Enough people tell me this that I think there is something wrong with my eyes.

Some games don't implement it well, some TVs don't either. And also often you need to calibrate your TV settings to get the best out of it.

Genuinely, on some games the difference to me was as noticeable (or more) than a big resolution bump.

Watch on your phone for full HDR goodness

Yeh it's great played it on pc ages ago at 4k runs amazing, nothing on the spectacle which was the original gears on 360 at the time that was mindblowing.

Gameplay wise you mean? Agreed. Follows a tried and trusted formula but with the open world spaces it evolved a little more than usual.

Interesting to see where they take the series and whether they are brave with it at some point.

It's still a really fun game though and the gameplay is solid, it's just that it's the same.

This and Uncharted are the two series I want to see shaken up.

Nah visually, i always have Gears as the first game in that generation when you were like WOW!

Even if it was pure grey.

I like Gears i used to love the multiplayer even with all its broken bits, p2p etc

Fair. To me Gears 5 is up there as one of the best looking games.

I can understand not being wowed but is that not a sign of the times? To me the visuals are getting diminishing returns and greater improvements / leaps can be made to AI, enemies on screen, world size and detail, loading etc.etc.

What are the recent games where the visuals have wowed you? Even things like TLOU I think it's the animations that are so impressive.

Oh i totally agree i've gone back to 1080p and 1440p on smaller screens just with higher framerates i'm over visuals as a whole the upgrade is so small its not that astounding anymore.

I think the greatest change this generation of consoles should have is moving to a 60fps standard instead of trying to keep pushing more pixels as possible at 30 frames.

I don't believe it will happen, be great if it did though!

The density of what? Enemies and shit happening? Obviously that'd be scaled back but yes.

The warping? Do you mean where he grapples to those portals and quickly changes to a new perspective within the map? If so, yes, I've played multiple games with mechanics like that.

Unless there's another video, there's no mechanics or level design in the one you shared that couldn't be replicated on PS4 in a less impressive manner.

The same sort of upgrades you'll see in a Spiderman, Gears 5 or Horizon 4.
Be honest... You didn't watch it all did you?

6.6 million views for the PS5 UI first look video, the thirst is real.

Yes. Tell us the bits you're talking about.

I am not saying the game isn't impressive or taking advantage of PS5. My point is that, like last gen, I don't believe there will be any truly next-gen games for the first year or two, it's more QOL until hopefully some more complex systems, AI and other mechanics come in.

Obviously it's all just a laugh mate
100% on my end.

Xbox's first party games don't really interest me on the whole but there definitely will be a fair bit of output from the studios which will be good for the players. Only 'problem' seems to be the output is mostly a year or two out and the Halo delay doesn't really help in the meantime but in 2022 onwards once the new studios and existing studios have the games finished, there'll be enough to release a first party game on Game Pass every quarter which is great value.

Maybe they'll win you over. The output is going to look a lot different. There's lots of variation here and something for everybody.

Only thing really missing outside of Tango (or whatever that Japanese Bethesda studio is) is JRPGs or similar.

More to come.
