He had access to the noobs and I absolutely destroyed the Sony fanboys over GT5/prologue and he went to the noobs and started whipping them up. It was hilarious.

Last gen I went the other way, but only to mock Cider and Alock's love of Kinect 2.0 and all the Bullshit MS were coming out with. (I do wish Spark succeeded but it was as clear as day it wouldn't with how easy the MS fanboys on here thought it actually would be to make games! I remember one talking about making a zelda game on it )

Those were fun times, there's not a lot to get our teeth into this gen on the piss take front.
Haha I vaguely remember the prologue debate.
Would happily pay £20 for a GT7 prologue

How about Sony’s latest controller gimmick?

That being said, it was fecking great balancing across a beam by tilting the controller with the ps3. Never been so immersed.

Doom, Wolfenstein, Dishonoured. All great games in the past few years.

Even if Bethesda don't have another game of the generation or anything as influential as Skyrims and Fallouts again, they still have many studios capable of producing high quality games.

In Obsidian, Inexile, Playground Games they have big potential. I know a guy who just left Rare for Ubisoft who has glowing things to say about Everwild and Rare being back on the up (he was very down on things pre-Sea of Thieves but they've really turned that ship (intended)).

Forza is always strong, even if you think it's dumbed down or nothing on the early games, it's still clearly a strong series.

Initiative is the one I am a little unsure about. Apparently big hires and budget and on paper should be great but who knows, so many things can go wrong.

It's quite clear Halo and Gears won't be relied upon this gen. I'm really curious to see what happens with those franchises and the devs.

But yeah, it's still all same old isn't it? Shooters and Forza?

Now don't get me wrong, I love fps and I still like the Forza spin offs (yes the main series is ruined trash these days), but it's still not in the same variation and style class as the Sony ones. That can't be disputed.

If we are talking sensible here for a moment, MS still don't have a great track record with teams they've bought and started meddling in. Rare have only just become relevant again for example (I love SoT btw) and none of the others have really made a mark, not when you compare to the big Japanese hitters for the likes of Sony and Nintendo. Can it change? Of course, and hopefully it will as that's best for us gamers, but will it? We'll see. However just bare in mind the exact same thing was being spouted last gen if you remember rightly. I'm confident this time around it will be better, but I'm wary of getting too hyped right now.

Bojan, I am your father.

Fancy a slap?

I was bang on right about the whole thing. The game WAS at least 2 years off, and the prologue WAS basically charging for a demo because they shat the budget all over the floor.

The fact people bought into the shit and yet today go at EA for continually trying to do similar by selling games in bits makes me smile and weep at the same time.

I'm still mocking the DS4. Weaste getting all mad because I kept referring to the gay nightclub disco lights on the front

Anyway that’s enough tomfoolery for one night. I think we’re all just excited for the new consoles despite what @Redlambs says (he’s just old).

Demons Souls is enough for me for now.

I would say Cyberpunk too, but that's already soooo last gen. (And I have a bad feeling about it).

So even if we ignore Doom and Wolfenstein as more shooters alongside Gears and Halo..

Dishonoured/Prey, Horizon (so different to Forza), Fable, Avowed, State of Decay, Flight Sim, Wasteland, Starfield, Fallout, Elderscrolls, Ori, Everwild, Sea of Thieves, Medium, Gears Tactics, The Outer World's

Feels completely unfair to say shooters + Forza. Even with a bit of hyperbole.

They're all B+/A titles, not padded with Indies. Also games we know lots about (mostly) with proven quality game (outside Avowed and Everwild - who are proven studios with very recent/current successes). Clearly lots of quality, quantity and variety

And @Redlambs by all accounts they've learnt lessons from acquisitions of old. Lots of good stuff come out from Rare, Playground etc. They talk about how MS allow them to run with some continued autonomy, and don't enforce any sort of culture shift but look to meet them.

Obviously they are owned by MS and have to say stuff but it's quite clear from various accounts, published and rumours, that they are doing a much better job integrating studios than in the past.

They've shown with Rare and Sea of Thieves that they'd give time and by all accounts they've really turned things around over there and the relationship is better than ever.

And a lot of those games have been past their best for a long time, others like Prey were decent attempts at their genre but nothing special. And you listed shooting games and Forza, not me, so your hyperbole comment is nonsense.

Besides, you don't even know yet how many of those games are going to be genuine exclusives and even if so, it's a lot of sequels to games that have been out for out for years. It still doesn't match the clearly move varied and at times innovative games from the Sony studios.

I'm not even entirely disagreeing with you, you seem to be reading more into it from your bias than you like to think. But my point very much stands, it's all same old and talk. If you want to keep comparing and fanboy fighting between Ms and Sony, then you need to see the point that it's still the same kind of lineup you'd expect. Yeah great, don't rely on Halo and Gears... but let's talk fable, Forza, State of decay...

You were saying exactly the same thing last gen, and it's all "by all accounts!" Who's being more reasonable, me by saying they've made steps but let's not get ahead of themselves, or you are once again believing everything you want to read?

And how many years did they feck rare (and others) for BTW? Let's not get into that situation again and act like they are some kind of heroes on that one now that there's finally a proper footing once again.

Great posts

It's a non contest between Sony owned studios output quality and Microsoft.

Not even worth arguing about its been so much better on the Sony side.

Doesn't mean it can't change but they are miles off just on this generation alone.

People are also forgetting that Microsoft bought Ninja Theory. Hellblade 2 is looking great, as is some of their indie stuff like 12 Minutes (timed exclusive, I think).

You said 'its still just shooters and forza' which is what I was responding to.

And the post I responded to started with
Doom, Wolfenstein, Dishonoured. All great games in the past few years.

Then went on to talk Forza. That's the context.

As I said, if you re read my posts but not in the context of it being a fanboy argument but a discussion of what MS can and still has to do, you'd likely make more sense of it and agree. The fact I pulled some strings for an guaranteed X well over a year ago, but didn't bother with the PS5 shows which side I have more starting faith in.

Now, when are we going to get a caf SoT crew on the go? That's once exclusive I'd put up there with any from last gen and going well into the next one

Signing up to Game’s pre order email isn’t pulling some strings.....

I rate Hellblade as one of the greatest gaming experiences I've ever had but I'm not convinced a sequel is the right way to go. I mean, I'm definitely playing it but I'm not expecting it to live up to the first game. There's just something about the rawness of that game that I can't see them repeat it successfully and with the same impact.

I was meaning, even if just for hyperbole or (probably a better way of putting it) playing's devils advocate, saying that it was shooters + forza is unfair. Yes I'd listed a few shooters but I was just saying that Bethesda brought a decent roster of games with recent success / quality. The wider offering though is clearly much more than shooters + cod.

Regard being past their best. First - not sure I agree - some, yes, but many, no. Doom, Wasteland, Wolfenstein, Flight Sim have been heralded by many critics as being great reboots getting back towards their best. Horizon is coming off it's best game, and the likes of Hellblade, Outer Worlds, Gears Tactics, Sea of Thieves are recent successful new IPs.

Secondly, I'm not sure it matters if they are past their best anyway. My point was always that there are clearly many studios on the MS roster capable of high quality games now. All the games that I listed outside the new upcoming IPs have had recent highly regarded titles. Whether they are as amazing as they once were doesn't change that.

You could say the same for Sony. God of War was 'past it's best' before the most recent addition and look how that turned out? Uncharted is definitely past it's best. So what? The studios themselves have shown to be capable of building quality games so people trust them to continue delivering to those expectations. Which is fair - I am saying the same should apply here.

Besides, you don't even know yet how many of those games are going to be genuine exclusives and even if so, it's a lot of sequels to games that have been out for out for years. It still doesn't match the clearly move varied and at times innovative games from the Sony studios.

Maybe they won't be exclusives. They'll be on Gamepass day 1 which is enough for me to justify the console purchase. But I think they likely will be.

I never claimed they would be better than Sony or that the quality yet matches it. What I said was that the quantity is coming, and there's lots of indications and signals to suggest some quality output too.

Okay, let's talk em..? Fable - let's see. Playground are great with Horizon but let's see if they can do Fable. Open world and British humour I'm confident in, and there's a lot of RPG/progression elements in Horizon. I'm not convinced yet but really excited to see. Forza - sim racers aren't really my thing - they're well considered and highly regarded still though, even if not by the enthusiasts like yourself who know better.

State of Decay 2 was really good though. Looking forward to 3.

No one’s got time to read these essays, lads. Call each other idiots and move on

It all make lots of sense - not sure what you are on about, I was just disagreeing with some points and giving my own opinion. I am not viewing it from a fanboy pov, or even in the perspective of it being a fanboy argument. I haven't said anything that isn't reasoned and doesn't come from lots of engagement with various sources.

I know you have a Series X preordered and buy all the consoles. As you know I have a PS4 and if didn't, have a PS5 on pre-order. It doesn't really add much value to the chat though.

I'll be honest though mate, whilst I enjoy the discussion (including you playing devils advocate, and even if there was any trolling or piss taking), I'm not interested in conversations that quickly descend into 'you said this 7 years ago' or back and forth over 'I'm being totally reasonable and agree with some of what you're saying - stop viewing it from a fanboy perspective'. Can we keep out the bit where you're patronizing - claiming I need to stop believing everything I read, or debating things I didn't claim (like that Xbox exclusive line up is going to be better quality than Playstations)

I'll agree on the last paragraph, but you didn't help taking it down the same path you always do with me by missing my attempts at common ground. And the same thing 7 years ago wasn't meant to be patronising, it wasn't some "I told you so" it was meant to be more what I said, don't be so quick to believe everything you read as you were last time. We both want them to change and compete better.

But I will apologise for that in any case, and I will say I've always had time for your posts in amongst all of our stupidity it's refreshing at times.

You know me by now I'm more of a wind up than seriously bothered about arguing what's better. Just as I know you will always miss the olive branches I plant around

Grand, nice one Lambo.

Anyway, Sony boys - should I keep Digital or Disc pre-order. I never buy discs but I'd like to have the option. The only disc on PS4 I have is spiderman and I might aswel just buy the PS5 MM one now with the remaster.
