The same reasons 10s of millions have bought Skyrim, GTA 5 etc. on console? Cause most people don't have and don't want a gaming PC?

For what it's worth (unless it's changed?) you can do mods on Xbox. I'm pretty certain you can do mods for fallout, elderscrolls etc. but you have a smaller pool as they have to be certified (or something). Doesn't have the same options as modding on PC but it's not a bad compromise considering historically it was always a PC only thing.

Ok you took “I don’t know why anyone” a bit too literally there.

I personally have no interest in playing it on a console.

Considering it will be hugely enriched by the modding community I’ve no idea why anyone would want this on console. I’ll be building a new desktop for this regardless of whether it was to come out on PS5.
I’ve been thinking exactly the same. This, Starfield and Hellblade 2 have had me thinking of getting an XBox but I’m also considering building a desktop for the first time in 15 years. The ES6 has to be worth it to get the very best out of it right from the off.

QuarterPS5Xbox Series
Q1 20212.83m1.31m
Q2 20212.15m1.35m
Q3 20213.24m1.36m

Fourth quarter should be better for Xbox if they've kept units back given the big software releases. They might even break the 1.4m barrier.

What is even the point in Xbox.

Or the PS5, for that matter. It's still unbelievable to me that two tech giants released new consoles and a year later it's still borderline impossible to get one at retail price without a huge a mount of hassle.

Xbox have won the console war

They have the biggest game of the century

Time splitters 2 and future perfect on back compat!!!

Your issue is the scalping market, not the companies.

The more people keep buying consoles from them (scalpers) the longer it'll continue. They prey on people's fomo and it's obviously a very lucrative market. Any attempts to stem the tide is met with derision. Amazon released PS5 this morning to Prime customers and people moaned about that because they couldn't get one. If they went on general sale the scalping bots would have snapped them all up.

I thought XBox was supposed to be winning? Looking at those numbers it's looking like the fight could be over before it starts...

I also thought people didn’t want to pay £70 for games…….
Tbf I still don't, but people in general do not mind paying for quality. I reckon XBox could have gotten away with charging at launch for their big games and bringing them to GP in 3-6 months, maybe a year... but they were desperate and I think it's funny that XBox owners have stopped buying games as a result.

I posted this elsewhere but eBay currently has a voucher for 20% off products from small stores using the code BLACKFRIDAYUK

Only lasts until tomorrow but it's a nice way of getting some money off games you might be planning to buy, including pre-orders.

ShopTo is on there which is usually cheap -> https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/shopto_outlet

Admittedly probably better for PS5'ers :)

People morning about Halo delaying co op whilst Naughty Dog haven't even mentioned multiplayer 18 months after launching the game. Doesn't get a mention.

Standard.

It's like I said earlier people hold Xbox and PlayStation to different standards. It's like the fact that the GTA trilogy have got a higher rating on MetaCritic on PlayStation even though it plays worse than it does on Xbox.

The most popular game console on Black Friday 2021 isn't the PlayStation 5 — it's the $300 Xbox Series S
An unlikely video game console is dominating sales on one of the biggest shopping days of the year: The $300 Xbox Series S console from Microsoft, according to the Adobe Digital Economy Index.

People have been saying that PS5 is outselling Xbox Series X and laughing even though the Series X is sold out everywhere.
I don't actually get that. Surely they should be able to produce more Series X consoles if it's so far behind the PS5 but still sells out. Are they reserving parts for Series S lines? Do they just have a much lower manufacturing capacity?

I wouldn't be surprised if they're just not producing as many X with cloud gaming on the horizon. That could be a gamechanger if Microsoft sees its future in Gamepass subs rather than console sales.

I suspect Series S production is high because it's an easier entry-point into the whole gamepass/cloud gaming shebang.

Absolute assumptions though so I'm probably wrong.

They've been using the Series X components for The Cloud.
