Protest at Old Trafford

Could do with getting Fergie out with a megaphone to diffuse the situation. The only one who these protesters might listen to.

Has a “peaceful” protest ever achieved anything? The French Revolution didn’t happen because of a crowd of people holding hilarious meme-signs. I must stress, I’m not asking for anybody to get hurt, but come on. Enough is enough, if they can get the game delayed or postponed, that will be a big statement. The ruling class has done a great job of convincing the wider populace to be outraged over any protest that isn’t just a quiet crowd. A result of such peaceful times in the west, I suppose.
Exactly, makes me laugh seeing these peaceful comments. People are incredibly naive to think that.

These guys are idiots.

Protest against Glazers, not against the team and the players.

What a disgrace some of you are.
This makes no sense. That’s exactly what they are doing.

And how does it happen by a few hundred people breaking into the stadium to ruin the hallowed turf and take a few pictures in their 5 minutes of fame? They turned a brilliant protest with people, banners, scarves, posters and flares into a riot which will only serve to attract negativity and distract the players.

A few things needs to happen if they are to sell:

1) Bad press, and that can happen if our fans protest vehemently but peacefully OUTSIDE the stadium, and I applaud those who did. The people who went in the stadium have brought all the bad press on themselves while looking like raving lunatics. I guarantee you there will be a few stories coming out in the next few days which paint the Glazers as victims now. These people have just set all of us back a few months and protests.

2) Boycott. A complete boycott of season tickets by locals, one off tickets by overseas fans, merchandise, the gift shop and anything related to the Glazers. Plain and simply, no profits = Glazers relinquishing power.

Also, adding on to all this, what was the point of protesting at the Lowry? Seriously, how does this affect the Glazers? It just distracts and bullies Ole and the players when they are clearly as distasteful of the Glazers and their plans as all us fans.

A riot? Really? A few fans ran into the stadium and one bloke threw a camera over. They are trying to make a statement. As I said standing outside before games singing ‘Glazers out’ is going to achieve nothing. It did nothing in 2005 and 2010. The next course of action is to damage United’s brand in the short term for long term gain. Whether that’s bad publicity or stopping matches being played. Something has to grab the media attention on this.

Realistically we need government intervention to ensure clubs have a 51% fan share but they are unlikely to do anything. As far as I understand it has to be discussed in parliament now because of a petition. I doubt government will want to get involved though.

Hey! You're in Florida get yourself round to Joel's house pronto.
In Georgia now.

I’ve had many of the Glazers as guests before in my restaurant when I lived in the Tampa Bay area. They are absolute *****.

That’s why I’m trying to roust @MrMarcello up to get to Harbour Island to kick down Joel’s front gate.

MM’s rght around the corner.

And how do you protest against the Glazers without doing this?

I’m sure that the vast majority of supporters are well-intentioned and protesting on behalf of United
Sometimes things are more important than the game day.

Smashing cameras and vandalism is not a protest mate. Just really poor behaviour and what happens at these kinds of alcohol fuelled protests.
Some right mard arses on here. Writing a sternly worded tweet or threatening to not buy a replica shirt won't get rid of them. If you want them out, this kind of thing needs to happen. Today's game means feck all in comparison.

This kind of thing won’t get the Glazers out. It just hurts the team and makes the fan base look like a right bunch of idiots. Once the alcohol kicks in it just becomes ugly drunken rage. Completely pointless.

Its 2:30am where I am, I get up in the middle of the night to watch these games. If the game gets called off it wont be a waste of sleep time for me, I wont lament the game being called off or even points docked or any of those scenarios. I will be cheering on the protestors who have made some massive noise with a low damage peaceful protest. Well done lads. Its not just winning trophies that makes it great being a Utd fan, its also knowing the fan base is full of people who care.

Bigger picture. Top 4 safe. Worse case scenario forfeit match and lose the glazers a few mil.
Yeah or we get docked points and miss out on top 4. Or they end up doing the same thing when we are in the title race next year. Only people they are hurting by doing this are the players.

"Stand by your owners" is probably not what the protesters want to hear right now.

Wanting the Glazers out is something that we can all agree on, but is there even an interested buyer out there that can afford the club? If not, all the protests in the world aren't going to do any good

They have illegally entered the stadium! Are you saying everyone can break in wherever they want?
No, but civil disobedience is sometimes required, provided it's peaceful. All reform movements have employed civil disobedience: the non-violent breaking of the law. What other options might make the Glazers listen? Nothing else has worked. I suggested a total boycott, but it seems most fans think it wouldn't work, sadly.

That guy throwing the camera...why the hell wouldn’t he wear a mask. Or any of them that broke into OT. Even if you’re Red Issue and don’t believe Covid is real, surely you’d want to hide your face.

Owners who never show up to matches aren't going to be arsed by this anyway.

It's the staff, the players and everyone else who is, and they're the ones who have done nothing wrong.

It's amazing how many of you suddenly think trespassing is an ok thing to do
It's amazing how you think this will not affect the glazers.

It's not pretty but it certainly has captured the attention of the tabloids and it isn't just a one off protest. This could build huge momentum.

The glazers may well be drinking pina coladas in miami as we speak but to say they won't be arsed by this is a bit daft isn't it?

Good lads. This is the stuff that needs to happen its the only way it'll get covered in the media.

There's some right melts in this thread.

This is good. At worst we will get a warning. No chance they make us forfeit or dock points on one incident.

And the press garnered is invaluable

Ehh, do these guys know that the FA will make a real meal out of it? Cavani, a three-match ban incoming.

There is stuff broken, damaged and now reports of fighting. This is not peaceful. That bit was lost when they illegally entered the stadium.

99% of those in attendance today are generational United fans who fill terraces up and down the land - and further afield - wherever and whenever United play. Yet we have bleeding hearts here condemning their actions, the same people who have never set foot in Manchester before, let alone the ground. Go figure.

We have the best supporters in Britain, bar none. If any fanbase can eradicate a parasite, it’s ours. Well in, lads.

Bang on! People criticising it say at home posting hashtags on twitter then criticise real protests.

Gutted I couldn’t be there, family birthday that I couldn‘t get out of.

Can’t believe anyway can actually be against the protest though, really proud of the supporters there today.

So many gimps in here

It’s no wonder governments and big companies can walk all over people constantly
Exactly.

I support the protesters, even if some private property is destroyed (the Glazers can compensate) or if the team is docked 3 points. Disruption is necessary.
