Pro Cycling 2018

It's peloton. They are frustrating me. :D

I'd love to see stage with runaways building 2, 3, 5 or whatever minutes advantage, and actually getting to the end with it. Well, just winning works too.

With this current climate or racing? Its a long shot. We have teams who aspiration for GC building their team like Sky, stockpilling super domestiques. You just cant get away with that no matter how strong you are. Its one man against an army.

What a ride by Froome. It just irritated to see him reluctant to dancing out of sadle when he can do that more. Not looking good for Yates, no domestique left, and Domoulin just keep his ride stable. For me, Domoulin is the winner today.
That's a bit over the top for me. I'm sure Dumoulin would've wanted to limit the damage more than he did. Including bonus seconds, Yates took another 37 over him, that's signficant. I think Dumoulin will be okay tomorrow and then take the pink jersey on Tuesday but the last 3 real stages all have very tough mountain top finishes, where Yates has shown himself to be a lot better than Dumoulin so far this Giro. Even if Dumoulin takes a full 2.5 minutes over Yates in the ITT, that would leave Yates with roughly a minute to make up in those stages. With bonus seconds, that definitely looks doable for Yates.

This is all without taking into account that someone might have a terrible off-day or just tire more than the other, which would change things completely.

My commentator is very pissed at motorcyclists (those with cameras) being in front of Yates just (around 16-17 km til the end). They help him apparently (type of slipstream so to say?).

5 chasers can't do anything to decrease the lead of Yates, it's going in the wrong way for them. Can Dumoulin gain 2 and a half minutes in time trial?

He's certainly capable of it, no doubt about that. But as I said earlier, those 3 mountain top finishes still to come are Dumoulin's biggest problem. He needed to be close enough to have a decent gap on Yates after the ITT. Just getting the pink with little to spare is not going to be enough.

Thanks. How much do you think might be enough for Dumoulin to have before those last three stages?

Though, I like how attacking and aggressive Yates is, might prefer for him to win at the end.

Pozzovivo and Pinot, good time trialists?

Honestly? I could see Dumoulin losing 30 seconds in each of those stages. Yates just looks too strong at the moment. But as always, it's very hard to predict. Every rider declines signficantly by the third week, some just less so than others.

Pinot has improved his TT in recent years and should be decent, nowhere near the likes of Dumoulin under normal circumstances though. I could still see him losing around 1-1.5 minutes. No idea about Pozzovivo actually.

Dumoulin can even win with 3 minutes on Yates on tuesday, but he will lose at least 30 seconds on each last three stages.

Yates is just relentless. You'd think he'd might have had a mental wobble with all the pressure that's been applied, but no, he just comes out and does that today. For some.reason I find him a bit annoying, but the guy has been by far the strongest rider in this Giro and would be a worthy winner.

Good run Froomey. He's building up nicely...........for the Tour. Joking aside, I think he's coming into good form now. Should have a strong finish to this Giro.

Slightly disappointing ride by Dumoulin. Losing to Martin by 8 and Dennis by 22 seconds is by no means terrible but at his best he would've beaten them. Yates did very well though, even if Dumoulin had the TT of his life he would've kept the pink jersey. Still 3 very tough mountain stages to come but it would take a collapse by Yates for anyone else to win it.

Those time penalties by the way. You know it must've been particularly bad if no less than 3 Italians are penalised in the Giro!

Awesome stuff.

First, my long time wish of breakaways getting to the end with huge advantage (not that it matters for overall), and then Yates with some problems and half of his advantage is cut. 28 seconds ahead of Dumoulin now!

First signs if cracking for Yates and on a climb which suited him. If this is real fatigue kicking in then it could become very, very bad for him as Dumoulin and Froome look like they're getting stronger and stronger.

Yates to finish 3rd overall? :wenger:

Pozzovivo to make a surprise race today. Said he waited three weeks for this day apparently. Might be more than usually pumped.

He should be. He remembered me of Uran in Tour last year, always on position in GC but never once he attacked, just ride along Froome until last stages.
