Milik got injured, so he got moved to a striker role and has been putting them in since.
The Napoli players behind him have provided him with fantastic service and did the same to Higuain last season, when he broke the Seria A goal scoring record.
 
Mertens has doubled his goal output this season with a couple of months of games still left, late bloomer or freak season.....

When Milik got injured he became a guaranteed starter and his output increased. He was a squad player before this year, but has always been a prolific one in terms of goals and assists per minute. He'd be a good, cheaper alternative if Griezmann isn't an option.
