Preseason Tour Game 6: Bayern v Man Utd (Friendly, Sunday 05 August 19:15 BST)

Lvg just wanted the ball, and Mourinho just does not want the ball. From one extreme to other extreme .

Exciting substitutes coming on.

Time to get my Cheech on.

Oh please. This is not the first time, this has been going on for two season now. It's as if it's a shock for most of you and won't happen again.

We see this week and week out. Pathetic.
We've got half of our starting XI missing, playing in sub tropical temperatures after racking up massive minutes on tour, away from home against the german champions who are coming into the game fresh in a pre season friendly. Let's not forget we've got our first game in 5 days, you'd be mad to expect full commitment. It's like context means literally nothing to you people. We are shocked? I think you'll find that's you, the guy going batshit crazy over a meaningless game. Give it a rest, will you?

Fridge did well for his first start. Clearly not 100% but the fact he received the ball, turned and ran forward with it, was bloody refreshing. Energetic pressing in there too. Should be a good signing in all.

Can people remember that we're playing without Matic, Pogba , Likaku and Alderweireld?

Sure, but I think the depression is borne out of the fact that even with them, our style of play is unlikely to change much. We've got negativity to look forward to all season at this rate. I hope I'm wrong and a miracle happens. :)

Again, it's pre-season.

That's a poor argument when other teams with less match fitness and preparation, also in pre-season, have played well. Winning isn't important in pre-season, building tactical fluidity and general performance is.

Even if this is just pre-season, we're not sampling pre-season games as evidence for this system creating these circumstances. We've seen, for a couple of years now, in European competition, as well as league competition, a consistent pattern of possession concession, inviting pressure and poor transition from deep. This is not new, or limited to this, or any pre-season.

I very much doubt that technical quality throughout our squad is the issue, since, teams with lesser technical capabilities are better drilled and can pass out of pressure better than we can. Again, this is not limited to pre-season observations. It is general.

It's frightening how unlikely we look like scoring in this. Friendly, missing big players or not, this is inexcusable.

I'd expect any premier league side to create more clear chances than this.

Maybe wait until we are a few games into the season and after we're done with our signings.

Why?

We aren’t going to sign so many players that they will single handedly pull us out of this rut and negative style.

This has been our way for long enough and it stems from the manager.

Let's start Chong against Leicester, he's a raw as feck but a lovely player to watch and that hair is next level.

This is really really bad. As many have said, it's just pre season but we are about to enter the 3rd year of dire football. Nothing has changed and don't expect anything will.

Someone remind me how much we've spent on players. Leicester would have put up a better fight.

Are you actually considering that this is mostly a 2nd team vs Bayern’s full strength? Why are you so hysterical over a nothing game?

Juventus been playing just as long as us and got beaten 3-1 by Madrid yesterday. Explain that then.

I like the look of Fred, quick thinking, quick movements and most importantly, passes/moves forward with the ball. We'll squeeze that out of him soon enough, in a few months he'll go full Herrera and start passing backwards even if he was through on goal

At least with Moyes we would get the ball into box....albeit through 100 crosses!!

Why can't he just bring youth attacking players in as subs? What's the point of these subs?
Because players need minutes. They need to build fitness. Despite what's written here, thats the main reason for these games.

This is all a smokescreen by Jose in preparation for the new season. I'm confident he's got this unbeatable new tiki-taka/gegenpress tactic in the works that's he's waiting to unleash on an unsuspecting Leicester City.

Have faith, lads.

I love how we play long balls into Alexis "5 foot nothing" Sanchez, bloody genius.

Preseason has never been an indication of what's to come when it matters, so no I'm not really worried. We're not beating City anyway, and we're not gonna be worse than last year.

I've watched at least the last decade of preseason (including the brutal time zone issues off ole internet streams in Asia) and we have never, ever looked this bad. We lost matches sure, but at least we had shots. At least we played football.

Saying that we've had good seasons after poor preseasons and the opposite is kind of fatuous - we've also had good preseasons and good seasons. And it is unfathomable that being this bad for literally hours and hours of football is somehow good for the players. If preseason is literally only about fitness, they shouldn't even be playing matches.
Its about the money.
That's why we're playing in incredible heat with water breaks working with a quarter of our actual first team squad.
In all of your pre season watching years, have we ever been as lacking in first team players as this summer?
Its like we're playing a Utd eleven for a testimonial in Aberdeen as the first team squad are busy doing the real work!

A few on here remind of that poster, GCHQ or whatever, who staunchly backed the Glazers. If one can say, with a straight face, that our club is progressive on and off the pitch, then perhaps you may love this club a little too much or not at all. I'm trying to work out which one it is...

Remember David Moyes preseason. Don’t speak so soon.

In the age of perfectly organized teams Jose hopes that players let loose will figure it how to score. The sooner hes gone the better. And it comes from a person who wanted him badly.
