Preseason Tour Game 1: Man Utd vs Club America (Friendly, Friday 20th July 03:00 BST)

I fear that Valencia is approaching Rooney levels of finished at the top level.

And he'll be our 1st choice RB again :nervous:

I know it's just 1 half, but he was poor last season too.

We need to sign another RB imo and have them rotate with Dalot when he's fit.

I cannot wait for Mourinho's post match press conference! He probably has the excuses on paper already.

Yeah it's pre season but don't forget these players are paid millions to kick a ball, more money than most of us will ever see in our lifetimes, there's no explanation for lack of effort.

Grant - Good few saves.
Valencia - Same old, but slower.
Bailly - MOTH.
Smalling - My mother can pass better. Decent.
Shaw - Top of fitness tests? He barely took a sprint.
Pereira - Good, but wasteful crosses and corners.
Herrera - It's like he started losing his balls and all skills on the ball two years ago and it just keeps getting worse.
McTominay - Mourinho's poster boy should be loaned out to a PL club to see if he can make it. Looks very limited still.
Mata - Apart from hitting the post, he's been showing us how once more how he isn't a winger. To have one left-footed winger in the squad at Manchester United, who isn't even a winger. How insane is that? City in comparison have Mahrez, Sane and B. Silva..
Mitchell - Was hoping for a lot more. He looks miles off PL quality.

The first 45 mins of pre-season, with a massively dis-jointed squad, many of whom have never played together and probably only trained together for a matter of 1-2 weeks and already people are moaning.
This one isn't a valid excuse, change Pereira and Mitchell (and the goalkeeper) and it's close to what we saw loads of times last season and all regulars. It's not like it's a group of unknowns. Though yeah as always, it's a preseason so you can't read too much into it in terms of team patterns. Especially first game.

Hoping we don't start with valencia and mata on our right but knowing Mourinho they will be in our team for next 2 years.

Eric has everything to be the best CB in the league.

You'd think so but he fell out of favor towards the end of last season. I know nothing compared to Mourinho but that doesn't make sense.

Since when exactly are pre season games played at max efforts ?

100%.

The only acceptable mentality is to play with the desire to win every single game, starting with the training and friendlies. I don't see that mentality in our team. Haven't seen it for a while.

We haven't offered a new contract for Mata and Valencia, assuming we didn't, they would be gone by the next season but having Jose in charge, that may change like he begging Fellaini to stay.

A lot of players staying out there, surprisingly. Hope Chong and Gomes at least get 30 minutes then.

Well, most of the players in the starting XI today are reserves, so they should do something to put doubts in Mourinho's head over team selection...

I have never watched a pre season game with high intensity, not for us or any other teams. They are mostly boring to watch.

Mata asking for the VAR
I'm not sure what people see in Pereira, he looks bang average to me. Was dreadful when he started v Fiorentina in last pre season too.
Agile, good touch, forward thinking, good dribbler, has a good shot, great set pieces, very good crosser, capable of some excellent passes. Obviously having technical ability doesn't make a player, but he is capable of very good moments.

Nope.

Its the first pre season game.

Wise up.
I saw better performance from average teams in the world cup but sure footballers'd totally forget how to play ball after 1-2 month break.

On the bright side. Jose probably has had a list of who shouldn't start for us by now

At the same time if you re not at full fitness yet why would you risk possible injury by over exerting yourself in what is basically a nothing game? It's a glorified pickup game. Remember us waltzing over the likes of Real and City in pre seasons? That didn't mean much for the promise of the actual season did it?

Martial was definitely faster at Monaco/in his first season. He has really good acceleration and is very agile but not the fastest with a lot of space to run into

If I were a fringe player trying to get into Manchester United's first team squad I'd run my socks off. The sad thing is that the first half of this pre-season game looks exactly like most of the competitive ones last season. No aggression, no desire, no collective press, no runs, I counted one or possibly two attacking combinations in 45 minutes.

Wel... you make really good points. But...some level of effort must happen, at least from players fighting for their future.

I was shocked to see the quality of our movement in the third final, nobody makes a run, just waiting for a pass to receive and watching the balls,

They don't even look like they're having fun...
