Is this part of our problem ? Just throwing money and hoping it solves a problem ?

How often are they playing at Old Trafford? Because if it's once a season and an opposition player, then you can't really blame United for that.

It'll be this story from earlier:

Ronaldo and De Gea I can believe but I don’t think Sancho and Varane are on anything like that.

What’s more, City will be paying a tonne to their players off the books in offshore accounts.

As per popular opinion, pw salaries

CR7 - 470k or something
DDG - 375k
Sancho - 350k
Varane - 340k
Pogba - 290k
Cavani - 250k
Rashford - 200k
Maguire - 185 - 190k
Bruno - 180k
Mata - 160k
Shaw - 150k
Fred, Lindelof, Matic - 120k
Henderson - 100k

That is assuming Sevilla is paying Martial whole salary.

The concerning thing is, rather than trying to put this spiralling and ridiculous wage bill in reverse, 3 of our summer signings are on it!

I can only hope this thinking died a death when Woodward fecked off.

I actually think the worst of all these is Mata. I can't believe that Solskjaer wanted him to get a new deal as he never used him. That means the club gave him a new deal for non playing reasons, 160k a week too? Unbelievable.

Yeah, I refuse to take Man City's figures at face value, tbh.

Us paying audacious figures isn't anything new, but I don't believe we pay so disproportionately in contrast to them.

I find it hard to believe that Sancho is in that list. He must have been on 100k or so at Dortmund. Doubt we would’ve directly made him the highest outfield earner outside of a living legend. We could’ve doubled his salary. Sure. But given that we were the only ones out to buy him doubt it’s more than 200k or so.

That's the problem, highly paid prima donnas who are only willing to play 45 mins of football. After 45 mins, they will jog around with half hearted performance waiting to go home update their Twitter account.

To ensure that he sticks around in non footballing capacity next year. But apparently is also exploring playing deals in Spain. So that angle also falls apart. Complete shambles

PS. For those unbelieving in City numbers should benchmark us to Liverpool. Or even Chelsea.

It’s worth every penny to have him around the squad for ‘atmosphere’ and ‘good vibes’

Whenever the players are feeling down, Mata has the best jokes and motivational speeches

It’s a huge part of the problem. We cannot attract players by offering glory, a sporting project and top facilities. All we can do is throw lots of money at them which has allowed a culture of accepting mediocrity to fester.

I often see people say “well it worked for City and Chelsea” but that simply isn’t true. Both those clubs have been obsessed with winning from day one.

Difficult to believe that Sancho would be on more than Lukaku or Grealish who moved the same summer for big money - most of these salary figures are just guesses

Ronaldo and Varane I can believe

De Gea gets far too much

I thought the Sancho £350k claim had been debunked.
Remember the DM reckoned Rojo was on £200k a week cos they misunderstood his payslip.

Just read today Saka is on 30k a week and he’s probably playing better than everyone on that list.

His contract will be renewed and you can't compare Arsenal with Man Utd. Eventually Saka will get his market rated salary, either in Arsenal or else where.

I’ve been saying this for years, does he even blog anymore?

This is exactly why we have the malaise at Utd. The players dont have to try too hard as the manager cant drop them as they earn too much money and cant sell them as no other club would pay their wages. The lesson here is to revert to paybands and dont pay more than the highest band, even if we dont get a particular player, go for the next choice.

Still puts things into perspective, contract renewal or not.

Even if this is half true, it is still outrageous. That's a high price to pay for mediocrity.

I have been saying Man Utd is a huge draw to players because the salary offered. Except the very best it is hard to say no, with CL or not make zero difference to the players. They will even go to play in China for the big pay check.

I really hope he is not on 350k. Most websites claim that to be his salary though.

But increasingly the problem is that it’s not the right kind of players, the sort of players that want to join for football reasons, and then we attract players that aren’t fully committed. Bruno is still only 9th best paid player and that’s more than he was on originally in a rare case of football over salary.
