Premier League Gameweek 23 (13th - 15th Jan 2018)

I refuse to believe there are folks on here not enjoying City being torn apart. Feck pool getting close to us, this is brilliant for the entirety of English football
Agreed.

Honestly we are never going to catch City this season. Liverpool getting close to us is more worrying.

One would think he didn't watch the match and is relying on cliched BS
It's an assessment on the game. City didn't follow this blueprint and were punished. I've seen it many times before with Liverpool so it's definitely not cliched BS.

We lost to two lucky set piece goals against City. It could happen. We have a manager who doesn't want to attack top teams, and prefers to defend first. His way could have also worked, even though i don't like it. Its frustrating, but that's the price for having Jose as your manager. Klopp on the other hand, will have his team play football like today - but they will drop silly points through the season. They are on the same points as us right now, but that's more coz we seemed to have thrown in the towel after the City loss, till the team realized that we now need to fight to hold on to second place.
I know what you are saying but there has to be a middle ground somewhere in between Klopp's cavalier approach and Mourinho's defensive outlook in the big games. City's back four can be got at, they will always gift possession by playing their way out of situations in defence when it isn't on, plus their keeper is better with his feet than keeping the ball out of the net.

You did concede 2 goals near the end.
I was clearly referring to the pressing which was his point.
I also don't think we'd have conceded those 2 late goals with VvD playing (both could / should have been headed away) but that's obviously very disputable.

It is.
Also your keepers are horrible still. That goal conceded, we would go mad if playing in school someone would let that kind of goal in, let alone a pro. :)

Stupid thing to say. When van Dijk messes up a goal the next time he plays, who are you going to blame then? The whole defensive line was rubbish and the keeper was crap, a Southampton-defender won’t change that every time. Newsflash, Southampton let it tons of goals with him in the line-up.

Not sure why this proves we were right to be negative at Liverpool. This game showed yet again that they are bobbins defensively. City just happened to be even worse than them today, despite generally being a better team than them in terms of both defence and offence.

They conceded as many goals in this game as they have all season. Also Karius is even worse the Mignolet.

They're as good a counter attacking side as there is in Europe. Deadly if you leave them space - Especially at home. Look at the managers who've came away with a point from Anfield and you'll see a pattern. No one has won.

This post is even worse than the others you've made today - truly immature.

Sadly I missed all but the last minutes. Basically I only witnessed Aguero missing the opportunity of an extra time equalizer.
Milner into the book here as he concedes a free-kick in a very dangerous area for De Bruyne to whip in a cross. i think it was the big chance for City in 90 + 3 minute

Every time there's a big game in the PL these days, it always comes down to drunk/Sunday League level errors, as opposed to any actual quality football.

Is it just me who doesn't find a game ending 4-3 that entertaining, when most of the goals come about because someone trips over their own shoelaces, can't play a 3 yard pass to a team mate despite taking about 50 touches of the ball first, or just completely forgets ho to kick a football altoghether?

It just makes it laughale when you have the commentators waxing about the wonderful quality of the two sides, as Otamendi passes the ball straight to a Liverpool player and John Stones spins around and trips over his own foot. Or Morata gets through on goal because Chambers is literally staring at his feet, and then calmly takes his time and lobs the ball directly into Peter Cech's face.

Klopp is a specialist at turning the game into sunday league level stuff; and Guardiola with his Continental tactics couldnt control the game.

The PL is like a soap opera; so many twists and turns during a game make it entertaining; but the writing and direction is pretty poor.

Spot on.

This is clearly ignoring how those supposedly school boy errors came about. It's call "the pressing game"...What Liverpool front 3 do is create uncertainty in the oppossion defence. They did that to a T today.

The have pace in abundance , and once you attempt to play football against them, you are at risk due to their counter attacks. It is simplistic in the extreme to think that that was an error strewn City performance.
City made load of errors due to the pressure put on them.

Yes but it is literally every game between two of the big sides. The Chelse vs Arsena 2-2 was the same. Arsenal vs Liverpool was the same. United vs City was the same. Spurs vs City etc.

It invariably comes down to circus football rather than quality

All true, but it's also true that they were slower, sloppier and more uncertain than they used to be back in October-November, and have been for more than 2 months now.

And this is why Liverpool won't challenge us.
Challenge you for what, second? Who cares. I think we will finish higher than you anyway. We outclassed city today. The only team to do so.

City's system is to complex to work under pressure. Sure, when they have sustained possession and the opposition is confused about when a where to go looking for the ball its perfect, but when under pressure it just leaves the forward as a lone warrior.

You lot have been doing this for years. Winning against the bigger teams and then dropping points against the so called smaller ones. If only they awarded more points for winning games against teams higher up the table than you eh.

Seems like you do care then.

I understand the high your fans are on after beating the new invincibles on the block, but let us not get ahead of ourselves. As a team, we are a bit stronger than you in midfield and defense, and Sanchez plugs some holes in our attack. Plus, Mourinho is far more pragmatic and shrewd than Klopp, so it is likely that we will be more consistent than you over the remainder of the season. But let us see.

Games like this make me understand this place's hero worship of De Gea

With a lesser keeper they'd have a worse defensive record than liverpool. His sheer presence makes strikers miss. Has that aura of the greatest keepers. Strikers trip over their own dicks in front of an open goal because they're afraid if they don't place it perfectly he'll save it

Conversely, if you knew a keeper was liable to concede from shots that were not optimally placed, like Sane's Vs Pool, you'd feel more at ease when finishing chances.

Thank god for that fax machine

Not just that, you'd also be more likely to try potshots. When VDS was at juve, opponents targeted him all the time. Put as many shots on goal as possible, regardless of quality, and give him a chance to drop a clanger
