Premier League Gameweek 22

Why is it that unrealistic for us to finish ahead of City if they lose today?

They've looked bang average in a lot of games this year, and still have to play Arsenal twice.
Realistically a draw is the best result, feck them both. That being said I get wanting Spurs to lose, the difference between 3rd and 5th is much more significant than the gap between 2nd and 3rd. Keeping Spurs at bay is more important than the outside chance of us finishing ahead of City. We have so many games still to play with not that deep a squad, we will drop points over the rest of the season and so having a buffer for top 4 is key.

Wanting a City win isn't that difficult to understand. Arsenal need some competition at the top , we need top 4 sealed soon, Spurs are our rivals for top 4 and we aren't challenging for title this season.
We are 8 points behind and Arsenal have to play City twice, and just lost to Everton. It's unlikely but it's fecking Arsenal, who knows what'll happen. It's only February!

So that has to be Marsch out, right? Incoming new manager bounce right in time for the 2 Utd games.

Unless we finish top, which is unlikely IMO, then 2nd , 3rd or 4th doesn't really matter
They could be a trophy for beating City in the season that we don't know of. But yeh it's either title or sealing top 4 early for me. Don't care about anything else in terms of PL

What is with Pep and constantly leaving his best players on the bench?

Always look up the table—forget who’s behind. Two draws between City and Arsenal and we can make 4 points up on them both. City drop points today and we pass them with 9 points from our next 3!

De Bruyne dropped by Pep again. Hopefully Bayern/Madrid are straight on the phone to him.

Theyll probably sack him after those two games and they lose both of them. Most teams usually give a new manager a week in preparation for the first game. A new guy isn’t going to do shit in three days.

BBC seem to think Alvarez is going to be playing as a defensive midfielder

Well thats certainly an interesting take on it.

Tabloids probably hoping they keep him on until next month's game against Brighton so we can have "March gives Marsch March marching orders" :wenger:

Given that it's Arsenal at the top and City not too far ahead, giving up on the title this early feels daft. Hope Kane gets a hattrick.
I'd share your optimism if we just had the PL games to play with our thin squad right now., I'd rather challenge on all fronts and have a bigger leeway on the top 4, title talk is very unrealistic with us being in other competitions.

Ive come to terms with the fact that I'd rather city win the league than arsenal.

Talking about pundits we don't like... Jan Åge Fjørtoft has to be one of the worst. Annoying as f...

agreed, a shitty win would be best for us

When Pep loses the plot he usually falls into naming too many centre mids. Today it's like he's consciously fighting against that by going the other way - they've only really got Rodri and B.Silva. Everybody else is a defender or a forward.

We're 3 points behind City and 6 points ahead of Spurs with another team as a buffer for top 4 anyway. Why would anybody want fecking City to win?

People on here just get so weirdly defeatist about everything.

This place is filled with bedwetters. Remember during the first lockdown they were desperate for us to recall Henderson from Forest Sheffield because apparently they were our direct rivals for CL place. The other week Newcastle scored a 90th minute winner amidst drawing games every week and this pathetic bunch was going on about how they're destined to beat us to 4th. The other night in this very thread some dude was worried about Liverpool only being 10 points behind and if they and Chelsea both went on a title winning form they'd both finish ahead of us.

An utterly sorry and miserable lot.

It's not impossible but realistically we're not finishing ahead of City with the injuries we have and fixture buildup we still have to come.

Bamford and Calvert-Lewin are abysmal. There really is a dearth of decent English strikers outside of Kane.

Both are coming back from long term injuries so aren’t going to be match sharp yet. Despite not scoring DCL looked back to what he does best yesterday and if he can get back to that each week I think he is definitely good enough to be back up striker for England. He’s still only 25.

Yeah, it's a strange phenomenon. I understand becoming a bit pessimistic after the last few years, but some on here are worse than Everton fans.

'United fans' genuinely hoping that they see a title race between a City side who are currently 3 points ahead of us and Arsenal takes the cake.

Ivan Toney? Besides, isn't there a dearth of strikers in general, regardless of nation? Kane, Toney, Abraham, Callum Wilson. Can't think of many countries with better strike options than that.

I’m starting to think our three wins against Forest are a lot better in hindsight. Stuck 8 goals on them and conceded none.

Or maybe utd fans rather top 4 sealed early whilst we aim for a FA cup final/EL final too? What's strange about that.
