Premier League Gameweek 2

I'm sure I remember LVG turning-down VVD as well. And of course Sir Alex with Henderson was in his book.
Never heard of that one. Scousers had a clear run at him and even got caught tapping him up. I did hear we were in for him at the last minute but his mind was already made up.

No crumbs of comfort this weekend then to ease the pain of yesterday's defeat. :( Here's hoping Wolves can lift my mood tomorrow.

It was before he moved to Liverpool, and before their tapping-up became public; I think in LVG's first season maybe? Remember something about him preferring a player like Blind over VVD.

Chelsea did well to keep that down to a 2 goal deficit in the end.

Honestly, I hate it. It's up there with the brainless sideways-passing-to-each other that defenders sometimes do, only for the keeper to hoof the ball forward.

I get it, if you're prime BCN or playing a poor team who sits off you, sure. But when a team press you and you still try it, moronic.

It's going to take a small miracle for Liverpool not to win the league

Best Keeper in the league? Check
Best defence in the league? Check
Best midfield in the league? Thiago and Fabinho? Check
Best attack in the league? Check

How the feck has this happened :(
They went out and got one of the best managers in the game. What followed was inevitable.

This "generational talent" phrase needs to die. A generational talent is someone who is 30, wiped the floor with football and is having his career eulogised as we enjoy his last couple of seasons as lovers of football.

Not kids that go for insane money and we want to hype up.

We passed on Mane Thiago and Fabinho. And they are now starting for PL champions.

Tbf the only time a lot of United fans would've watched Mane was when we played Southampton, and he was always poor against us. I've seen some of his good performances now pre-Liverpool and it's clear there was a top player in there, but just goes to show why having a good recruitment team is crucial, consisting of 1) Scouts 2) A good team buildinng manager like SAF or Klopp and/or a DOF.

Havertz is one in generation talent they said

He's been there 5 minutes. I remember the same being said of Bernado Silva after 6 moths, of Fabinho after about the same. One went on to be probably the best CM the last time City won the league and the other one of the best DM's in the world.

His system is horrible. I hate any team that plays without pace and actual wingers of some description. They've got Ziyech and Pulisic so we'll see what they do when those are both available but this has been poor that. They relied on Warner for pace but you need more than one player with pace at this level.

Mount is horse shit too.

Yeah agree. Especially against a top team so weird selection from him with what he has at his disposal.

Much as it pains me to admit it Liverpool are different levels to us in terms of workrate from their team, particularly their front three who we are capable of matching for goal output but not anything else I am afraid to say

I think near enough everyone rated Mane, the issue was the left side of our attack was the only area we had any talent and cover with the likes of Martial and Rashford so it wasn't a priority to strenghten. We were crying out for a right winger and Mane was not that.

Leicester down by a goal so early but still plenty of time of course. Burnley seems like a solid mid table team these days, credit to them.

Lucky, lucky Barnes. He can pretend and the commentators can pretend all they like, that was a miss-kick.

The ball connected with his heel and went to the left instead of the right.

Still counts as a goal though.

The worst thing about Burnley is that their brand of 'football' actually brings results and allows them to stay in the League. Shame.

I would disagree that that's a bad thing. There are plenty of ways to play football, there's no such thing as the "right" way... Even if it is more entertaining.

Not saying I'd want United to play that way... But what's more important to Burnley? Staying in the league on a tiny budget or playing nice football?

Thought he was poor today and against Leeds. Had some decent games post lockdown but overall you want more when you spend that sort of money on a player.
James Milner and Thiago Alcantara...together at last.

He was not poor today, I would describe it as ’solid but not spectacular’.

He’s played well WHEN he gets a little run in the team - problem is, that barely happens because of a lot of injuries. It’s just as shame really as he’s looked class in stages when he can stay fit a few weeks. So don’t agree with your assesment. He’s a top quality player but plagued by injury. And today and vs Leeds he actually did pretty well, but it seems he struggles to go more than 60 mins quite a lot, maybe just Klopp rightly being sensible.

Interesting to see how Liverpool go now with midfield, i’d love to see them try Thiago, Keita and Henderson, but then it’s hard to leave out Fabinho,, who is quality, maybe Fabinho, Thiago, Keita, regardless. Liverpool have a lot of choices.

Have Leicester been playing with inverted fullbacks? I thought that new signing was a LB but keep seeing him on the right side on highlights. And scored from the right side last week too?

Timmy Chestnuts is a RB, but can also play at LB.

When Ricardo is fit again, I think he'll get moved to left-back, and Justin will go to the bench.

He seems better than Chilwell so far :D
