Premier League Gameweek 17-19

Bit shit, this. You wouldn't think this was two big teams both desperate for points.

City won’t hold that number 2 position for long if they keep going like this, let alone surpassing Arsenal.

Looking very poor.

Been a dull, boring game so far with very little goalmouth action to talk about. Chelsea been the better team and unlucky not to be winning. City haven’t turned up yet, Haaland, De Bruyne & Foden have been very quiet.

Is City's dominance down to their ability to buy two starting 11s, or did Pep in fact invent football?

Guardiola out-thinking himself again. They should just be playing a flat back 4 of Walker and Cancelo at RB/LB, Ake and Stones as CB's?

I don't think these one formation in possession, one out of possession ever work.

I'm feeling more confident for the derby seeing this performance. KDB looks way out of sorts post WC.

Solid half, Chelsea played with energy and were better, City only started to play towards the end of half. Draw here would be good for us I guess, though it's been 9 years since last PL draw between these sides according to commentary.

N’Golo Kante Armando Broja Reece James Wesley Fofana Ben Chilwell Mason Mount Raheem Sterling Christian Pulisic Ruben Loftus Cheek Edouard Mendy

What an injury list [as of HT]

Don't get why cucurella was wanted so much
What am I missing ?

It seems very fashionable to have players who are comfortable playing fullback or centre back, switching between a back three / four. Same thing with Ake. Both Guardiola and Potter seem to value that tactical flexibility and fit for a niche role over individual quality to some extent.

The one thing Cucurella seems good for is that he always looks to play it out from the back, on the floor, even when there’s the tiniest angle. But other than that I don’t really get it either…

I’m sure they’ve been playing this way most of the time for months. You’ll have games where Stones is the right centre back in a 442 on the team sheet, but he spends most of his time almost as a right back, and Cancelo is playing like the extra centre mid. Seems to me that Carragher’s exaggerating things. They’re just playing a back three with the midfielder occasionally dropping back in when there’s danger, like a holding midfielder usually does.

I'm starting to think those who defined Kai Havertz a "generational talent" were wrong.

We are so much better without mount and Stirling today.

Both have been terrible. Feel like Chelsea are us post Fergie, spending money everywhere but no structure to the team at all

City look like they would rather not be there...

Havertz is like a a shittier version of Martial.

Anyway, cards need to start flying, it has been a bit bland so far.

Zero tempo to the game. If City inject a bit into the game they will pull Chelsea apart and will win comfortably.

"Pep overthinking" is one of the most clicheist cliches out on the streets. Forget that there may be good reason for setting his team up different, forget they've played this for a month... A manager thinking too much can't be had

I'm starting to think those who defined Kai Havertz a "generational talent" were wrong.

He was very good for Leverkusen but that was more in arriving late to the box/Ballack type role.

Certainly not a generation talent playing as false 9.

Don't get the Chelsea criticism. They lost Mount and Sterling and Pulisic and still have been more adventurous than city.

They did should have been ahead.

Haaland had been absolutely invisible. Not sure if pep himself likes the way city play but is forced as haaland seems to score a lot.

Thanks Pep, couldn't have given Cancelo till 60 minutes no?

Bald cnut

Pep's tendency to overcomplicate things would drive me insane if he were are manager.

Shite from City, again. Of course they will play like a team obsessed against us next week. Annoying how even when they're better than us, they still treat us as their cup final.
