Why does Chelsea not have a sponsor?

Chelsea won’t have a shirt sponsor for their opening game of the Premier League season.

The club launched their new home shirt last month without a front-of-shirt sponsor after a three-year deal with telecommunications network 3 UK expired at the end of last season.

Despite negotiations over a replacement moving towards a positive conclusion an agreement won’t be in place for the club’s opener against Liverpool on Sunday.

Chelsea had agreed to be sponsored by U.S. streaming service Paramount Plus, however the move was rejected by the Premier League due to concerns it could cause problems with the league’s broadcast partners.

There were also talks between the club and Stake, but supporters voiced their opposition to being sponsored by a gambling firm and no deal was agreed.
