Premier League Gameweek 1

I swear the lead commentator and Dixon hate each other.

Burnley's backward fans are really excelling themselves tonight

That graphic must be for the 'murica feed .
What a weird thing to say. It looks like this here:

Burnley fans showing their true colours,
Lighter thrown in first half at Rico Lewis, now a pitch invader.

Disgusting.

This is different. Peps revolutionised football but it’s so less entertaining now. You can appreciate the tactical and technical skill of it all but with the tactical fouls and the way they keep the ball there’s barely a sniff of a counter attack.

He hasn’t revolutionised football. He’s just spent more money than anyone else ever to play keepball and bore the audience.

This Burnley team and these fans are a disgrace to the legacy Sean Dyche created there.

There was a point when Poch was at Spurs (because they were just as bad as this City team) that they started talking about really trying to stomp this out but they just don't have the balls to give a yellow for every cynical challenge. I don't really know what the solution is to be honest - someone was saying Arteta has coached Arsenal to go down injured just after they've scored as it's statistically the most dangerous time in a game that you might concede, it's this kind of "gamesmanship" that makes football worse, even more than VAR and shit reffing in my opinion.

Book players and then send them off for a second offence as soon as they commit it. This thing that a player must commit 4/5 little fouls before being booked is nonsense, if it's a yellow it's a yellow. That or have a 15 minute sin bin for cynical tackles.

On injuries, I genuinely think they need to just play on when players are down, they are inactive they get treatment. Only stop play if they need to be stetchered off, which only happens about 3 times a season anyway.

It's the fans that also value the qualification as a trophy
Yep, even the one team that's managed to keep City somewhat honest in the last few years went all Arsenal with their celebrations after sneaking into top four in 2021.

It should be "celebrated" in a similar way getting out of the group stage is, nothing more.

If this was the case Fernandhino and Fabinho would be missing half the season.

They've become more stringent on tactical fouling starting around the 19-20 season. It was much worse before then

And I think that's influenced City to be more slow and deliberate in progressing up the pitch in recent years... apart from tactical fouling, they've incorporated midfielders as wingers, inverted full/center backs... Primary cause was to eliminate those pesky counter attacks that had been the bane of City in years past.

He's unlucky he just didn't put his entire body weight behind that tackle, would've got away with it then.

Not sure that's a red
Sometimes yellow, sometimes maybe red, to paraphrase Gattuso. The VAR tombola strikes again as to what constitutes a clear and obvious error. We'll see about five similar tackles this weekend where half aren't overturned by VAR citing the high bar and half are.

That's the spirit.

True though. Its a bit like the F1 at the minute. You can kid yourself that the race to win "best of the rest" is exciting, but it just isn't.
