Premier League Festive Season

Vital win for Brighton. Other teams around them were starting to show form. Luckily Bournemouth were shite, but at times Brighton were playing some lovely stuff.

Everton's manager bounce in full swing, who knows they might just be able to win at Anfield for the first time in a 100 years next week..

VAR and this 'part of the body' offside thing is ruining football. His arm was offside.
It was a beautiful goal as well.
It's impossible to celebrate a goal anymore

People keep saying this but everyone celebrates a goal for feck sake!
People forget these calls were being made all the time ore VAR. Its really nothing new

You can't fully celebrate a goal because VAR will probably cancel it because his finger was offside.
It's completely shit

The reason it has been suggested to move Trent to another position isn’t because of his defensive ability. It’s borne out of the idea that a player with such an exceptional right peg and creative craft in his locker should not be ‘wasted’ at full back. It’s a view that has been promoted almost solely by English ex-pros who learnt their trade in the 1980s when 4-4-2 was king and full-backs were typically the weakest players on the park. It’s completely ignorant of how the modern possession game works where attacking width is primarily provided by full-backs and someone with Trent’s skill set is invaluable.
TAA is basically a more athletic Beckham. And iirc, there were the same arguments that the latter should have been played in the middle also, until it was proven that he was better on the right. And I think the same will be the case with TAA.

I would also maintain that Klopp's system is what's making their fullbacks so good. You look at Robertson's performances for Scotland and TAA's for England and you can see their defensive limitations much more clearly.

To defend VAR a bit, I suppose when you do insist on using it then you have to go by the rules. The rule that any part of the body being offside is really too strict.

Lower half makes sense but not upper (including arms).

Top of his shoulder is possibly slightly more ahead but in the spirit of the game he his level and keeping himself inline.

The camera is not high res (not this feed) or producing enough frames to see when exactly the ball was kicked. I bet he's onside if they have 120-240 at 4k footage. Skipping back and forth one frame on these is too much either way.

In this frame that they used the ball is too far way from his foot so Zaha is onside when the ball was actually leaving

They went off the shoulder, which is part of the body you can play the ball with.

It really is leaving things open for potential problems when it's used like that.

Shouldn't be offside. Bodies are on the same line, who cares about the arm, the arm can t influence play.

The idea of Palace being above us at this point in the season is mental
