Premier League Festive Season

Sounds more like wishful thinking to me but alright.
It's not really though is it?
The Champions League is the ultimate prize for players (barring the Euro's and WC) yes Liverpool won it last year, but in reality, where are you most likely to win it, along with many other trophies? Plus theres the whole "new challenge" thing. Very few players stay at one club now, and even having a great manager doesn't always keep them around. You know for a fact if Real or Barca come calling, their heads will turn and if the right money is placed on the table, they'll be gone.

As things currently stand Liverpool are not less likely to contend for a CL year in year out than Real or Barca. They knocked them both out in consecutive years. This Liverpool side isn’t going anywhere.

Did that logic apply to Pogba this summer as well?
We all know, and likely accept, that if Real come calling, Pogba will be gone.
I firmly believe that Real was his preferred choice before coming here, they just weren't willing to put up the cash, and we did. Simple as really.

I dont even get mad watching Liverpool anymore.

I enjoy competence.

If we had Klopp, we'd probably have fired him in the 2nd year after the bad start. Or forced him to play the director's signings to make them look like geniuses.

I agree with your whole point in general. But looking at the state of transfer market now, it looks unlikely as these liverpool players would cost more than a heart and a kidney. I would not put my hopes on them leaving anytime soon.

One good season doesn't mean you're going to dominate for years!
Leicester had an amazing season then fell of the face of the planet the next. That won't happen, obviously, but it proves the point that one good season doesn't really change much in todays game. For example, whats saying that a mega rich Saudi family buy's out Arsenal and pumps hundreds of millions into them, turning them from this mediocre team to a world class one in a single window? Who knows what will happen in football.

It's pretty well known Zidane wanted Pogba this summer, and Pogba wanted to leave. They still have to get a bid accepted, and I don't see that happening with any of Liverpools front 3. It would take Coutinho money, probably more, which i don't see them spending. Even if they were to get a bid accepted, the only thing Real and Barca has on Liverpool is location (nicer weather) and maybe salary. Liverpool are currently a better team, with a better manager. Additionally all the Liverpool players have seen how going away to one of the spanish gigants worked out for Coutinho. This sounds most like wishful thinking.

It's not one good season though. It's 4 seasons of continuous improvement. It's getting to the final of every European competition they have competed in. Of course anything could happen. North Korea could also decide to nuke the city of Liverpool. Aliens could invade Earth and kidnap Klopp. I don't find any of the scenarios very likely though.

You seem to forget that player power is a long stronger now than it was back in the early 2000's.
Players can kick up a fuss, request not to play, basically go on strike until they get what they want. They can also run down contracts and leave on a free at the end of it. Not saying that any of the Liverpool players are that classless, but people seem to think that clubs hold all the power now. They don't, and if a player wants to leave, you damn well know they're going to leave at some point, contract or not. Pressure can always be put on a club to accept an offer, and the big Spanish clubs know that if they pursue for long enough, they'll get their man... they've been doing it for years.

4 seasons of continuous improvements can end in an instant though through any means. A crucial player gets injured, a player gets sold, a new signing comes in that completely unbalances the team. Again, not likely scenarios but you can't discount them. Klopp just signed a new deal, but whats saying that if another club comes in for him he won't go? If he wins the league this year and Germany come in for him, whats saying he won't go? Do you truly believe he loves Liverpool that much that he'd turn down the chance of managing his national team and taking them to world cup and euro glory? Who knows, maybe he would, or maybe he'd thank Liverpool for the memories and move on? Football is a funny game

Is there anything at all to suggest that there are any liverpool players topping their shopping list?

Fair to say two great seasons at this point. Nothing about them remotely resembles a one off.

This is embarrassing. Klopp just extended his contract to 2024 and is going nowhere despite your fantasies.

Unashamedly stolen from twitter:

Very on brand performance from United today. Started the game against a team below them in the table so played like shite, went behind, at that point they were now playing a team ahead of them in the live table, so they beat the brakes off them

I think your point basically boils down to "anything can happen", and while that is true, you have to look at what's realistic. Firmino, Mane and Salah all have 3.5 years left of their contracts. This means that they can put as much pressure as they want on Liverpool to move them on, but in the end it's Liverpool who decide where they play for the next 3.5 years, which will probably see them over their peak. Sure they could pull a Coutinho, and that would probably make Liverpool accept offers on them, but only at Liverpools terms. Barca got absolutely fleeced over Coutinho (whose saga should serve as a warning for the other players that the grass isn't always greener), and it would take a similar kind of deal to price Firmino, Mane or Salah away. And then again, why would they want to leave? I think I can say that Liverpool are better than both Barca and Real currently without being arrogant. They are in their absolute prime, and is most likely looking to win as much as possible. There are few clubs better set for doing that in the next couple of years than Liverpool.

There are also plenty of examples of Real/Barca not getting their man, De Gea being the obvious example on this forum. In the end it seems like a lot of wishful thinking to me, and I'm pretty happy that rival fans think Liverpool are so good that they have to pin their hopes on someone leaving.

So they were dreadful for all of 20 minutes then. Insightful.
Well yeah. But it's a half of a half and Newcastle were creating clearcut chances.

The complete turnaround was a bit surprising, no?

Shall I go through Sheff Utd for 70 mins, and Watford? Or just be pleased we won, which I am.

The inconsistency is a pattern though, and happening during games, a lot of games. I think you probably know this though.

No teams fan base wins with less of a superiority complex than these feckers does it. Not even slightly diluted by 30 feckin years of domestic league uselessness and comedy capers.

I'm here pissed, walking home and trying to find any word of consolation that they're gonna fek of next season somehow. In reality they wont anywhere ay time soon

It would take a world record fee to get any of Liverpool's key players and I am confident if one does go, we would bring in an excellent replacement.

If Barcelona or Madrid went for Salah, I could see us getting Mbappe.

It seems like Madrid want Mbappe and Barcelona want Neymar, so I don't think any of our front three are on their radar.

Mbappe...yeah thats not happening. Not least because PSG dont sell easily. Also he would cost 200m or more, I doubt Liverpool will pay that.

Just be happy the team won with a good dominating performance bar the opening twenty. Think most people understand why there's inconsistent displays.

City visit Wolves tonight. They’ve been a bit of a nuisance to us and hopefully we can kick their lupine tails tonight.

Gutted I can't watch this match (busy). Both teams very adept with a ball at their feet. City need to win all 20 of their games and hope Liverpool lose 4 of theirs. Wonder if that pressure will elevate or burden the City players? Seemed to be the former against Leicester so my money is on another 3-1 victory. Certainly an intriguing game to watch.
