Premier league boxing day fixtures

This thread is so comical, it almost stoops down to being as bad as the match day threads. The usual shitting on our own team while all the other top sides are apparently incredible, we're out of the title race, our team isn't anywhere near these lot and we play pub side style football

I've already said it. The likes of Liverpool and Arsenal have been playing at their full potential while we've been mostly average all season, knowing without a doubt we can and likely will get better, and yet we're still within touching distance. City also still have to play every top side, bar Chelsea, away from home. We'll see come the end of the season.

Hear hear. Or is it 'here here'?

Some excellent play from Liverpool so far. Fair play to them.

I'll be very very interested if they can keep this up for the whole season and what they'll do when they have their first real dip.

The whole forum is so knee jerk it's comical. Can't stand some of the stuff I read on here.

We're playing to our full potential without Sturridge, Gerrard and Enrique? Right...

Well said that, man.

Fans are fickle. Martinez and Everton were golden gods of football yesterday. Liverpool were diabolical in losing to Hull not so far back. The form of teams changes so quickly, but not as fast as the opinions of fans.

Hoping City smash Liverpool to bits. Used to City winning the title and challenging with all their lotto winnings, I mean it can't get any worse than 'Aguero' when we nearly had it at Sunderland, but Liverpool winning their first Premier League, first top flight title for about 23 years would be a whole new level of pain.

Sorry just can't take the risk that they might not bottle it a la Arsenal. Come on City!!!! 6-0 please.

This game is just sad as it shows how backward united are in terms of their personel and system. Here we have two teams who play a modern system with lots of movement and quick interplay. United are still stuck in a dinosaur system of pass to wing and cross.

Still some full seats as they kick off again.

To be fair most people are praising the type of football on display which is evidently very good.

Even Liverpool?

City not winning the league isn't going to stop them spending loads of money and strengthening even more next summer anyway.

Well, the easy answer would be that Liverpool won't win the league. The hard would be, hypothetically, yes. I know it's a super unpopular view, but even though City will always look to strengthen, what I worry most about with regards to them is them developing a relentless winning habit, akin to we had, when they play badly and win. That team surrender to them almost psychologically, which is already happening (I remember Everton and Wigan always getting at them, but many other teams just shit it). If they win the league again, they'll have a better pool of players to choose from, whereas if Liverpool were to hypothetically win the league, the banter would be intolerable but it's so unlikely in the first place that it would be unlikely to ring in some era of them doing it repeatedly. For me, City are our biggest rivals, easy (not that we're currently near them)

It's ridiculous. If Liverpool conceede three in next half same posters will say how shit they are and that we are much better

If Henderson actually had an once of skill he could be a great player.

If United aren't in contention for the title then I don't really care about who wins games like these. Same when City and Chelsea played earlier this season. That said, City winning another title would be expected and easier to deal with than Liverpool winning one for the first time in my life, so I guess City winning is fine with me.

Suarez is captain now? What a remarkable journey to captaincy. From diving to racism to refusal of handshakes to biting people to asking to leave the club, and here he is leading the team against City.

It's the sort of game where Liverpool are well in it but City could run out winners by 3 or 4 goals. A City home game, essentially.

If we had a leg to stand on, I'd be with you, but Rooney's been our captain this season...so...

Skrtel is cheating as much if not more than the boy who can do anything (Januzaj Januzaj Januzaj). I'm sure Alan Hansen and Jamie Carragher won't mind it though.

Oh some of it's bloody nice, but you could also spin it that they've both been poor defensivley and that's why they're getting split open so easily.

It's fine to praise the football or other teams, but no real need to shit on our own team in the process.

I'm talking this entire season, where you've actually had them for large chunks. You genuinely believe your side is going to be able to hit much of a higher gear than what they have been? I'd be surprised. I'm not saying you haven't been mostly great this season, just that you'd need to retain that for the entire season and how teams like us and Chelsea aren't really far behind (in Chelsea's case they're currently above you now) despite pretty much being nowhere near our best all season and only just starting to get slightly into our stride. We've got gears to go up yet, I'm not convinced you have. But again, we'll see at the end of the season.
