Predictions for players we'll sign in the Summer

One 'superstar' signing - I hope its Reus, but I have a feeling it'll be something stupid like Cavani.

Two midfielders - I think it'll be Carvalho and Fabregas.

One fullback - Probably Shaw

One CB - Could be Hummels, though I'd say itll probably be someone like Garay or Ginter.

One/two youngsters - Assuming LvG is our manager, I'd inclined to believe he might bring over a promising Dutch prospect or two.

Messi. 100m. Sell Rooney to make up 30m. If we hadnt have spunked 27m on Fellaini we are almost there ha

It depends on who takes over.

If it's Van Gaal, which is expected at this point, then I think he will sign Strootman.

I'd also expect another midfielder. I'd be happy with Carvalho. If signings are made before his appointment, then I think Shaw will sign.

We'd still need a centre back.

Who goes would be interesting.

Griezmann would be great in my opinion. Out with either Young or Nani and bring in Griezmann. I'm surprised we haven't really been linked to him.

It's a shame it's not the players we WANT to sign (realistically) of course, but it if it's who I believe who we will sign, a lot will depend on the manager but it'd be nice if the OP @Danny1982 Perhaps started a poll or a new thread that each of us could singularly comment as to who we believe we will sign, and then come back and compare it, anyway here is mine:

£5 mill A relatively unknown LB from an obscure league (Not Spain/Germany etc)
£20-25 mil for a young CM, perhaps Carvalho as touted, it seems likely to me.
£20 – 30 mil for an established CM, not a main name like Fabregas or Kroos, I’ll stick my neck out and say Strootman
£15-20 mil for a young winger (depending on who leaves), but I can see this being someone slightly more known, it’s been a while since we’ve had a dangerous winger, I think El Sharawaay

So, for me it’s [Obscure LB], Carvalho, Strootman & El Sharawaay

A left back, two central midfielders and possibly a centre back. If we do appoint LVG as our new manager, the latter might be unlikely however, given his ardent belief in developing young players and offering them a chance in the first team.

I haven't got an f'ing clue who we will sign this summer. History portrays that we will be disappointed bar a few summers.
We haven't heard anything concrete yet just red top bollocks and twitter drivel.
It's always crap when an international tournament is on.
I hope to god we address our problems.

Fabregas, Carvalho, Shaw would be a great place to start.

Ass to that one of Reus/Kroos and a CB and we'd be money!

As for the poll, we already have too many polls on the forum, and as for a separate thread for predictions, then this thread was supposed to be for that. Some people might have missed the OP and talked about whom they want us to buy this Summer instead, but I think we still have enough posts talking about members' predictions, and I would encourage more people to list the names of players they expect us to sign this Summer, especially now after we sacked Moyes.

My list so far (will update it on the final day of the season):

Players I think we'll sign:
Shaw
a midfielder (Carvalho or Gundogan)

Players I don't think we'll sign:
Fabregas
Kroos
Hummels
Reus

Would it be a widely wrong a prospect to assume we may have yet another terrible summer? one could imainge Van Gaal (if appointed) vetoing the majority of transfer targets the club had lined up under Moyes.

I really think we will have one of the better summers we have ever seen.
This really is one of the most important summers we will have as a club.
If we do not improve, and miss out on the CL again, it will be a big deal. Missing out on it once, isn't so bad, as most people will expect us to bounce back and get in again next season, but if we miss out twice in a row, it becomes a problem.

It's something we need to secure. The Glazers won't risk it in my opinion.

Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs and Anderson will all leave
There are also question marks the likes of Young, Nani, Valencia, RVP and Hernandez etc, so questions need to be answered

Strootman, much like Gundogan, has had a serious injury recently. I can't imagine we would spend a fortune on either of them when there are injury concerns, we've been stung before. There are other options out there who are more suitable.

Personally I doubt we had that many transfer targets lined up under Moyes anyway. He is far too slow and unambitious in the transfer market to do what needs to be done.

But I can see us having a poor summer. Every summer I get myself excited and then end up disappointed.

Don't get these Cavani rumours.
Do we really need to spunk money on another striker

Hummels, Kroos and Reus keep getting banded about. Obviously it's incredibly unlikely we would sign them all, but any one of them would be absolutely fantastic.

Even for silly money and wages, and even if their clubs will negotiate with us, surely the likes of Fabregas, Hummels, Reus and Kroos would think twice about joining us with no CL football? Even if they move, other clubs seem more likely.

William Carvalho looks like a realistic signing - probably for silly money.

We might get Shaw, also for silly money, but he'd do well I think. Alberto Moreno might be an option. There will be rich CL clubs in for both I would think. Coentrao would be good but might be a bit happier at Real now.

We should be able to buy a centre back. Ginter or Benatia or someone like that. Mangala will probably go to City.

And we might sign a right back but don't have a scooby who. Maybe Van der Wiel if Van Gaal comes - can see PSG signing Sagna. On a similar note, would not be too shocked if Van Gaal (if he comes) went after Strootman or Veltman.

some of the media speculation must be just that. But I honestly think with the huge revenue streams we have negotiated and after the Moyes debacle we have endured, the Glazers are going to do a 'Man City' and bring in top players whom a top manager can handle. A one year absence from the CL will be negligible considering the plans the board must have stated to these players.

I think we will go for top players who are young but also well up and coming. The players you have mentioned have not even been mooted by anyone.

Yes. I'd be amazed if Hernandez doesn't go this summer, and RvP has been injured too much. I don't think we have much chance of doing well if we're relying solely on Rooney and Welbeck up top for most of the season. But this is only dependent on Hernandez going, admittedly.

Hernandez won't be going anywhere. I honestly believe we will still have the same 4 strikers come the start of the season.

Overall:
I think we`ll spend a ton, but won`t get any Dortmund players.

1 Expensive Central Midfielder
Ideally Koke, plausible best-case scenario being Fabregas or Kroos, and if neither of them then one of Carvalho, Rakitic, Lars Bender.

1 Cheaper Central Midfielder
If Van Gaal comes in, there are multiple CM`s he`s given caps that he might rate and the board will let him buy since it won`t cost much. Toornstra, Klaasen, Clasie, Duarte, Schaars, Propper, Fer, Vilhena.

1 Big-Name Attacking Player
Seems like the board wants to make a splash. If it`s a wide player like Reus or Griezmann it will help us, if it`s a another central player, it will probably be a waste. Cavani would be a bit of both, since he can play out wide or as a 9.

1 Left-Back if Evra Goes
Shaw
, it looks like.

1 Young Player nobody expects
Probably from the league or country of our new manager. Van Gaal is the favorite and he watches the Dutch League a lot, so let`s say Janmaat the highly rated young CB from Ajax.

Prediction:
Carvalho 34, Clasie 12, Cavani 50, Shaw 30, Janmaat 15

If a player could handle one season without champions league football, the season after the world cup is surely the best time for it.

I still think players go for the money and the club first, and the champions league 3rd.
