I don't have a strong feeling about spots 4-8. But I do think many people are sleeping on Newcastle. They were 4th best in the league last year by XG despite a horrific run of injuries and will now have another year out of Europe and should benefit a lot from that.

I had the same thought about Newcastle, league table was harsh on them last year but their defending was indeed awful to be fair. No European football is a big advantage for league from especially considering the changes in format in European competitions to include more games.

Top 4 is such a big ask these days, you have the traditional top 6 + Newcastle added to the mix, and now Villa added to the mix - 8 credible candidates for just 4 spots.

Though I do expect a drop off from Villa as their underlying numbers weren't that good last season, and teams that surprise us with a great season tend to drop down the following season.

Edit: I might edit this again based on transfer business in the next week!

City - boring but safe kind of pick
Arsenal - could very well win it
Liverpool - new manager an unknown but that's a big gap they had on the rest from last season
Spurs - Solanke a good buy, think they'll do well
Chelsea - Maresca a doubt, but they finished well last season and it could continue
United - Decent summer so far, still not too confident in ETH
Newcastle - Not much business, but no Europe and Tonali will be back, hard team to assess
West Ham - Finished around these spots anyway recently, looks like a decent summer
Villa - think they'll struggle with CL, tailed off a bit second half of last season
Brighton - Concerning form after Christmas but new manager and decent investment
Brentford- back to mid table, full season of Toney if he stays, Mbuemo missed games last season too
Fulham - plodding along in the middle again
Palace - Great form after Glasner arrived but Olise a big loss
Everton - Onana a big loss but Dyche is clever
Forest - meh
Bournemouth - struggling without Solanke
Southampton - no idea, bookies think they're best equipped team to stay up of the new arrivals
Wolves - Neto and Kilman gone, underlying numbers from last season say 15th slightly flattered them, didn't want to pick 3 promoted teams to go down again
Ipswich - up against it
Leicester - facing possible points deduction, tough for promoted teams anyway

Are you the first to mix up the top 7 at all?

Nice.

1. Manchester City - with Klopp gone, there's no one left to reasonably challenge Guardiola. We all must pray this is Pep's last season terrorizing the league. I have grown incredibly sick of it now.

2. Arsenal - one would expect this to be the season Arteta's project finally bears fruit. It has been long enough. I don't believe it will. I don't think that squad and that manager have what it takes to dethrone City while also playing in the Champions League and domestic competitions. To be honest, I don't think that club has it in them to be winners. Choking is always just around the corner. Their only hope is for City to be deducted points but the chances of that happening are slim. Might make it harder for City if they sign a proper forward. Havertz and Jesus aren't good enough for a title push.

3. Newcastle United - quiet summer from them, but they already have a solid group of players that Eddie Howe has managed to elevate further. Injuries held them back last season. Tonali is also expected to return soon. I think they are being severely underestimated, considering their rivals aren't too strong either. They are also free of European commitments, so they can focus on the league.

4. Tottenham Hotspur - Ange is molding the team to his style and expectations will be high after last season. 4th place should be considered a success. Solanke and Gray are good additions. I look forward to seeing what they can do.

5. Liverpool - post-Golden Age era. Not off to a great start this summer. One can't help but draw certain parallels. Arne Slot has everything to prove, and he hasn't received the support to do that. I anticipate a significant drop off this season. That being said, they've made some good appointments in the backroom, so I expect them to arrest their fall before it gets too bad.

6. Aston Villa - for a club not used to juggling domestic and European competitions, I think they will mirror the struggles of Newcastle last season. Could finish higher if they get eliminated from the Champions League early on. Losing Douglas Luiz is a blow, and I don't particularly rate his replacement. Diaby has also left.

7. West Ham - exciting times for the Hammers, I suppose. Lopetegui is an experienced manager and they are having a strong transfer window. They also don't have Europe to worry about. I can see them having a good season.

8. Manchester United - One too many false dawns for me, especially after last season. The transfer window has been relatively good. The squad is not great but also not terrible. The midfield continues to be neglected, and not signing a CDM, like Ugarte, is a big mistake. I also expect the rate of injuries to remain the same - something that has already began, with Yoro out for half the season, and Hojlund for at least a month. Thursday football certainly doesn't help anything. However, the biggest issue for me is Erik ten Hag. I have pretty much no faith in him. The FA Cup win did a lot to mask last season's woes but for most of it he failed to create even a semblance of a coherent playstyle. He has often made the team less than the sum of its parts. I don't think he is good enough and I question the wisdom in investing in him, instead of hiring a proper manager immediately. Could probably finish higher if a midfielder is signed but not Top 4. Again, main issues - injures, manager, midfield.

9. Chelsea - I don't even know what's happening there anymore. They had just started clicking under Pochettino and finished the season on a high note. I would have put them higher if he had stayed but they are starting from scratch once again with a rather questionable manager. I doubt the revolving door is doing wonders for the development of that young squad, and I don't even bother keeping up with their transfers. I don't expect much from them. I think they are in the beginning of their own American owner arc.

Relegated: Ipswich, Southampton, and Nottingham Forest.

Team. Explanation

1st Man Utd - I support Man Utd shut up.

Man City - They are a disgusting club with no history or morals or anything that matters and they cheat and their stadium serves shite food but they have the best manager in the world who they probably pay through a shell company so they will get close to the best team in all the land. The team who showed England how to win in Europe and rose from the ashes to become the standard setter for English football. Their big brother.

Arsenal - They are the football embodiment of "oh that's nice" they will pass the ball about and it'll be very pretty.

Spurs - Hired a funny manager. Football players are not very bright and respond to big Australian funny man.

Liverpool - The bald, pancake eating Moyes will sneak them in. Coefficient merchants.

Chelsea - Will win a lot of matches by having so many players of equal middling ability that no opposition coach can ever predict their lineup. Those yanks are pretty smart.

Villa - Will quite literally shoot themselves in the foot. Well not literally but they will probably go deeper in Europe than their squad allows and their feet will hurt. Not quite as good as last season.

West Ham - "Hojlund is through to win it! What a tackle by Wan Bissaka!!" They will be good.

Newcastle - I hate their fans so much. They will do alright for a wee club in the north east and it'll be funny to see them lose their manager to England and Bruno to Liverpool.

Palace - "Hojlund is through to win it and... He scores" Not signing Wan Bissaka was a disgrace. For shame.

No idea about the bottom 10, I reckon probably.

Obviously, assuming City's court case will result in relegation. Will give an updated prediction at the end of the transfer window because big signings could make a big difference to a club's prospects. Right now, expecting us to sign Ugarte. If we don't, I might revise our placement. Expecting Arsenal to win very comfortably in this situation with a big points gap to 2nd place. Would be cool if McKenna managed to avoid relegation because of City's corruption.

Two things I don’t understand from everyone’s predictions

1) how do most of you have Aston Villa outside top 4?
In defense they signed Maatsen and will have Mingz back so that’s 2 solid bench options
Buendia is also back who’ll be like a new signing and Barkley will also be well settled by now and I see Barkley taking up Luiz’s offensive duties well.. they also signed Onana so again, their depth is quite good for challenging on multiple fronts..
Hence I see them continuing to do well.. Emery will definitely find a way to trouble teams like Newcastle Chelsea Spurs & Liverpool if not Arsenal City so they can win enough points to get top 4

2) how do you guys fair Liverpool will do well enough to be in top 4?
I think they’ll suffer without Klopp.. they’re just an injury or two away to key players from being in serious trouble.. bench is weak and the top 7/8 teams can easily take advantage of that..

Arsenal
City (if they don’t get a points deduction)
United (good depth to challenge for top 4)
Aston Villa
Spurs
Liverpool
Chelsea (questionable defence for top 4)
Newcastle
Can’t really predict the rest..

I wanted to pick Spurs above AV cuz I really rate Ange but their bench is weaker than Villa’s
Newcastle could end up higher too but depends on injuries to key players

1. Manchester United (after last year’s injury disaster we get some luck on this front. Garnacho is footballer of the year with Amad delivering double digit EPL goals and assists. Casimero has an Indian summer at the heart of the 4-2-2-2 formation. Defence produces numbers similar to ETH’s 1st season ex the first couple of games. Onana creates 5 assists in all competitions. De light, Martinez and Zirkzee take revenge on Bernardo Silva. Garnaco cites that as moment he knew Utd were a ‘proper team’).

2. Liverpool (which makes winning the title all the sweeter). Diaz, Nunez and Salah score lots of goals like the Sturridge/Suarez season but defensive calamities by VDV cost them too many games.

Arsenal out of top 4 as suffer injuries equivalent to Utd’s last season. Arteta sacked.

Who cares about the rest except

20. City get their just desserts.

Can only speak personally and my takes aren't exactly in-depth.

Villa is a just a general sceptism of how well they'll cope with Champions League for me. We've seen what it can do to teams. Newcastle last season end up in 7th during their first season back in the competition in a considerable length of time. Spurs finished 4th in 21/22 after a couple of years of no CL football then end up 8th when they get it again in 22/23. These 4th placed teams don't tend to do well when they've had gaps out of the CL or making their first appearance in a long time.

I also think how a team finished the previous season can sometimes be a clue as to how they'll do the following season. Villa are a case in point, really good after Emery took over from Gerrard and he was able to take that form into last season. Newcastle were on a roll after Howe took over from Bruce and he was able to take that into 22/23. Villa were only the 9th best side in the 2nd half of last season and lost a lot of their momentum. It works both ways.

I don't know what to make of their transfers, Diaby and Luiz were big for them even if they've brought in Onana and Maatsen as the two headline buys.

For Liverpool it's just the gap for me. They weren't only just 3rd, but 14 points clear of 4th last season and 16 points ahead of 5th. Slot may well be a Moyes at United level of disaster for all I know, but that gap gives him some leeway to be under par and still make top 4. The rest of us have a lot of catching up to do. Zero summer business must be a concern for them.

They should be looking over their shoulders a bit but at the same time are in a relatively ok place as long as they don't panic or Slot doesn't mess things up too much. If they'd only just finished top 4 last season by 5 points or less then I'd see them as a lot more vulnerable. Might well be a lot closer than last season but I'd still expect them to have enough for 3rd or 4th.

Fairly simple they aren't that good , they over performed last season in terms of underlying stats by lot could see them struggling big time with CL to contend with .

Anyone else who put us to go down fancy explaining why compared to other clubs? Just interested as we managed 48 points last year and have kept the defence together + added and improved our attack which was our downfall.
