Cheers! I didn't even have him slotted for this early (thought I could get him on the 4/5 turn) but when :lol: took Rocky Rocastle (I really wanted him) I realized I better pick him now

Haven't read it in ages but when I read book on Clough, he was an incredible key factor behind their success and arguably their greatest player.

Since we are talking full backs, for me Kenny Sansom is the standout left back of this era.

  • PFA First Division Team of the Year (8): 1979–80, 1980–81, 1981–82, 1982–83, 1983–84, 1984–85, 1985–86, 1986–87
From 79-80 to 86-87 he was in the PFA Team of the Year a record setting 8 times and is the second most capped England left-back after Ashley Cole. Tony Adams in his book, Addicted, described Sansom as a joker personality in the locker room who was superb at keeping his teammates loose and in spirits. He was a mentor to Tony Adams who help instill the strong mentality in Adams. Sansom was generally considered the best left-back in the UK from 1979 to 1987.

"Kenny Sansom arrived at (Arsenal) in 1980 as a replacement for Sammy Nelson. He was an all-round full back, he knew when to push forward to attack and when to sit in and defend. He was an excellent passer of the ball and had fantastic pace. Sansom was a great tackler, he had the ability to stay on his feet and time his tackle to perfection and was also strong in the air. Sansom made 394 appearances for the club before leaving in 1988. One of Arsenal and England’s finest left backs." - Arsenal Insider

IN his time at Palace, under Terry Venables, kenny had already gained a reputation as an attacking fullback who was equally at home in the opposition half of the field as he was in his own; happy to get forward in support of the midfield and front mean at any given moment and with the speed and awareness to get back to perform his defensive duties. Such was the impact Sansom made in his first season at Highbury that, by the end of it, he was voted the Club's player of the year by the supporters. The fans had been greatly impressed by his all-round ability - even in the air. At 5ft 8in he was by no means the tallest, but he won more than his fair share of aerials duels although he was noted for his near faultless first touch, his intelligent use of the ball and his unselfish support play. He wasn't a defender who favoured the lunging tackle, preferring instead to jockey his opponent away from the danger area before using his impeccable timing to make an interception at the vital moment. He wasn't often caught out and was rarely, if ever, given the runaround by even the liveliest of wide men. It was said that the only player to read situations as well as him was Paolo Maldini :blink: Kenny's leadership qualities are often underestimated, but he was undoubtedly valued by the players who took to the field behind him. However, a niggling injury and the arrival of Nigel Winterburn conspired to the end of Kenny's Highbury career. His role in nurturing the emergent Tony Adams would be vital to Arsenal's success of recent years, as would the enxample he set to his eventual replacement, Winterburn. "

I made the same mistake in picking Muhren (should have waited, though Ardiles pick forced me into it). RB is more important as you have top wingers are on the left (Barnes, Best, Brady etc).

Though you can play Irwin on the right as he played there for Oldham too.

I think we are all this draft. After the first three rounds, I think most of the players will be draft newcomers so no one really has an idea how the voters as a group will rate the formations.

yeah, pretty happy with our first three picks - we have our spine now. Ardiles I thought he'd go first round, for me the best CM for me behind Robbo and Souness within the current pool limitations(and of course not peak Keane, etc).
