Pre Premier League Draft

If he just scored that goal and that goal alone, he’d still be worth the pick.

Indeed. Cheers! I hope I can work him into my side.

@Frank Grimes Great job on your first draft. Yours was one of the 3 sides I was hoping to avoid. Whatever day works for you should be fine for me

Round 1 Matches

1) EAP vs Indnyc
2) KM/Invictus/Sjor vs Gio
3) Chesterlestreet vs Tuppet
4) youngrell vs beforekeanetherewasrobson
5) skizzo/pat vs greensmiley - Monday, 16th April ?
6) onenil vs frankgrimes
7) cal vs mjj - Thursday, 12th April
8) enigma vs oaencha

Hard to say given he came from such lofty heights, but from what I saw he didn't age that well.

He did not (by common consensus). Did nothing of note whilst being generally unremarkable beyond being, well, Bobby Moore.

He defeated the Nazis, of course, like several other picks.

Supported Thatcher too, one could add, though being an idiot isn't really something you can hold against footballers of any era (you'd end up with a terrible XI).

Moore and Best got picked, but not Charlton! I was thinking of picking Bobby C as my last pick...opted for Currie instead.

I might not even start Moore but he played like 3 seasons at top level in the timeline and got placed in Ballon D'or list two of those seasons and he played practically every game in those seasons so wasn't really affected by any injuries etc. He did declined by his very high standards but he was still a fine CB at least for the first two years. Most importantly he along with Mike England pulled on the jersey of my local team -

Seattle? Is it like in the Leo Waterman books?

I am going to play the WM formation
Excellent. Give it a few years when we're all bored and WM will be making a return.

PS - for all the UK players (and anyone who can find it somehow), ITV in an hour (11.45pm), programme about the last season before the Premier League. Might get to see some of your choices/opponents.

Who do we think should or could have been picked? Any standouts?

I was close to taking Frank McLintock but he was really a year or two after his peak.

Had a few possible left who I'd pick over some that got picked.... one in particular from the "very good player who played a handful of qualifying games" criteria.

BUT, can't they still be picked by players who get through this round?

No. We picking now from the players that have been picked

Not checked but don't remember....

UK - Stepney, Bailey, Lukic, Norman Hunter, Duxbury, Brian Talbot, Tony Morley, Mike Phelan, Neil Webb, Paul Mariner (lot of goals?), Brian Kidd (traitor), Luther Blissett, Steve Archibald

Foreigners less so.... John Metgod, Nico Claesen, Alex Sabella, Mirandinha and one for @Cal? ..... a member of the great Borussia Monchengladbach team and 1977 European Player of the year.... Allan Simonsen.
