Doesn't work very well as seen in previous drafts. Be more happy, had they been blocked.
 
Keeper rush, eh?

Can sort of see the logic in that, i.e. trying to gain an edge by having one of the top keepers behind what might otherwise look like an almost generic bank of four (I predict many matches where it will be hard to say who has the upper hand in terms of CBs and fullbacks).

Then again, the pool is full of good keepers - not great like Jennings and a few others but more than good enough, so the discrepancy shouldn't be all that glaring.

Nah, there are several who clearly aren't more than a tier below - and at least one people might rank higher than Southall.

Main question is whether you can sell your keeper as an actual difference maker - and that will obviously depend on the particular circumstances, rest of your defence and who you're up against, not least.

But, yes, like I said there's a certain logic to picking a top keeper, won't deny that.

IMO, you should be declared his official AM if so.

Not fair on the other managers that he gets bailed out. Normal practice is that he loses his turn and picks his 12th man after the drafting has ended.

First pick is different, fair enough to pick for him then.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a similar figure from the other end of the spectrum appear too.

But as the draft masters have stated, it's simply up to the managers to argue pro and con here.

And given that, I'd say that a limited sample size is a «con» in itself. I'll certainly use it as such myself if necessary. If we're simply regarding the players as being prime, it makes a mockery of the cutoff points, so whoever argues against one of these fringe figures should surely be granted the right to simply claim that X barely featured in the relevant frame.

ETA I would add that limited sample size is obviously more of a problem when the sample itself is exclusively from one extreme of the spectrum.

Never done one before (or Indy I think) but thanks anyway :)

People can definitely claim that if they want to - anyone (come the matchups) can use what ever reasoning they see fit to sell their team over the opponent.... same as ability, longevity, medals, etc.

(PS. Indys OP includes an example of "a player who played from 1989-90 season to 2000-01 season would have his performances for only seasons 1989-90 to 1991-92 counted". I think that's clear and matches what you're saying players could state in match threads.)
 
Fair bit of moaning about some of the picks, as @Edgar Allan Pillow stated should have created some minimum criteria. I think @Cal? is smart as feck to pick best and cantona and you’re all idiots for not doing it before him. It’s just a game FFS, take your spirit of the draft way of thinking to things that ultimately matter.
