I consider him more of a DLP than a DM, tbh. Iirc there was quote from himself that he played as a sweeper more due to his playmaking than for his defensive qualities or something like that.

Molby is a pretty unique player. Amazing passing range and had a powerful long shot on him too, sometimes could be found making late runs to support the attack like a surger. Still very solid defensively though with his balance and reading of the game.

RICHARD GOUGH

Athletic and imposing, Gough was a classic attack-the-first-ball centre half. His dynamism, professionalism and leadership were the bedrock behind Rangers' 9-in-a-row side during a career when he hauled in 21 trophies. Not just an SPL flat-track bully, as he twice almost won the European Cup, first with Dundee United in 1984/85 when they were edged out by Roma in a contentious semi, and second with Rangers as they were a goal away from knocking out Marseille in 1992/93. Given both clubs' form with referees and bribery at the time, he's rather unfortunate not to add a European Cup medal to that collection.

An exceptional man-marker, famous for shackling Marco Van Basten at Euro '92, during a campaign in which Gazzetta dello Sport placed him in their team of the tournament. That was Van Basten off the back of his greatest ever Serie A season, smashing in 25 goals in just 31 games in that miserly league.

Van Basten is second best to Gough all the time at the moment, being absolutely outplayed.

Gets ahead of a range of defenders such as Pietro Vierchowod, Terry Butcher, Des Walker and Tony Adams to make the all-time XIs of the players that each of Graeme Souness, Glenn Hoddle and **** ******* have played with. Only spent a mere season with Spurs in 1986/87 yet did enough to secure the type of credit normally reserved for those who have dedicated a full career to the cause. Remembered too in England for a cameo season with Everton in the late 1990s when he was pushing 40, notably keeping clean sheets against Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler in both Merseyside derbies.

Fabulous player. Could leap so high, read the game so well, was quick, could come out on the ball and he could pass it. He was a threat at set-plays going forward and he could score goals.

Extremely athletic, powerful, angry. Couldn't get in a race with him. In training I always tried to play in the same 5-a-side team as him, because he was all elbows and knees - more people got injured playing against him in training than any other player.
