Potential De Gea replacements

Go with Henderson and spend the money on outfielders. Even if we really have to spend on a GK, then we've got to spend on a complete one, not another that stops shots and does little else.

Either buy Obak or simply rotate Romero and Henderson for an year before giving No.1 spot to Henderson.

If it does come down De Gea leaving, then I hope we sign someone with a real presence about them. Who has the ability or potential to command his area to a high level. It would be such a boost for the back line to have a commanding keeper who will relieve some pressure from time to time by plucking the ball out from the air in a crowded box.

I hope Henderson is that keeper, or we should look at Donnarumma who has the characteristics to develop into the keeper with a good all round game and huge presence.

If De Gea is off to Real then we ask for £50 million plus Courtois, I don’t see Courtois wanting to be third choice at Real regardless of wanting to move there last summer.

Considering how most of our transfers in the last few years turned out, I wouldn't be suprised if we pay a world-record fee for a goalkeeper and he flops.

Well the scale of this problem surely depends on how hot she is

Caroline Lijnen, nothing to write home about.

I can't see us challenging City for the league next season. So we should take a long term aporoach and sign players with a long term view. We should sign a young keeper with the potential to be world class, I'm hearing Donnarumma fits the that profile. Or we should give Henderson a chance. If keepers like Oblak aren't good at commanding the box, then I'm not in favour of signing such a keeper for a ridiculous fee.

Courtois went running to Spain due to missing his kids, which is fair enough. Not sure why people think he'd want to return to England and be away from his kids again..??

I think De Gea will sign a new contract, but if not we cannot afford to risk the GK position with Romero/Henderson or some other youngster. We need a rock solid goalkeeper, and in my mind we have two options if De Gea leaves:
1) Include Courtois in the deal if De Gea goes to Real.
2) Pay the 90 mill release clause for Oblak.
Id go as far as saying the silly boys at the top of the club would probably swap De Gea for Neves.

Romero hasn't let us down, we even won the Europa League with him. He deserves a chance, and I would think that if he didn't get that chance he would rightly leave too, losing both De Gea and Romero at the same time. Suspect Henderson would also go. Just so we can have a fancy new name instead.

Why we would he leave, he’s a backup keeper that’s what he does. He was on a free transfer with little interest when we signed him, before that he was backup at Sampdoria and Monaco. He could up a reserve keeper at a midtable team if he left, he has good deal here whether De Gea stays or goes.

Romero as our number 1 with Henderson playing the early rounds of the F.A cup and Carabao

Donnarumma was just a hype job

Who are these “people”?

Lindegaard never looked up to much; as far as I can remember he was regarded as a downgrade on Kuszczak. De Gea was regarded as the best young keeper in Europe when he joined United; only a handful of British pundits didn’t rate him, and it was British keepers they thought were better (Given, Hart). Certainly not Lindegaard.

Romero has performed consistently well for United for several seasons now; something that Lindegaard never did. I’m not totally convinced he should be our regular starter, but comparing the two is ridiculous.

I didn't compare them, I just said that is the same kind of people who believe that. Lindegaard did well in the beginning and yes, many thought he should play instead of De Gea.

There are better GKs in the norwegian top flight, so yes.

Oblak, or give it to Romero for a season.

What has the Norwegian league to do with Robin Olsen? And no, they aren't better. Although Olsen should not be mentioned here.

He has let us down before, and he's only played a handful of matches. If he would play week in and week out, he would get totally exposed as the most backup keepers have done now and in the past. We are talking about a keeper who was backup at Sampdoria in his prime. But yeah, he's gonna come in at Manchester United and show us all! I'm not saying that Romero isn't a decent backup, but it's totally different dealing with the pressure and intense schedule of playing week in and week out for the biggest club in the world. Not many can handle that, and I can't imagine Romero would.

Oblak is the only one for me if we want to buy and replace De Gea 1 to 1 quality wise.

I like the idea of Deano being first choice keeper here, but it is probably too early for him at the moment.

Romero isnt good enough, he is a stop gap and an occasional keeper. With 40 games a season, he would get exposed, the more and longer he plays continuously. As a backup, he is pretty good though.

If your looking at a De Gea replacement you can't look anything beyond Oblak. It's almost not even damage limitation, it's a like for like replacement.

It's a difficult situation, naturally De Gea has held up our club for years and we have an out of form declining Sanchez who is the highest paid individual at the club. This then puts us in a position to overpay for De Gea and possibly Pogba to renew their contracts.

As fans it's easy for us to be upset over the idea of losing players over this circumstance but truth be told I would do the same in their position and demand an extravagant amount, irrespective of passion for the club etc it's common sense they only have one career and it's a short one at that.

Onana is highly rated and is still young. Good distribution but not sure how good is he at coming off his line.

Onana's biggest strengths are being simply unbeatable in 1 on 1, very reminiscent of De Gea, and his speed and intensity coming off the line. That plus his reflexes and 99% of the time his ability to catch balls firmly. He's also very good with the ball at his feet and in passing it around but his long ball hasn't looked as good anymore since his first season for some reason. Might just be the fewer chances at quick precise balls since the departure of Bosz' quick transitions.

But his eagerness off his line is also one of his weaknesses. About 3 or 4 times now this season he's come for balls that he had no chance for and conceded in an open net. See PSV's goal last week or Benfica's goal away in the groupstages.

Really love Onana though. in my opinion already a top 10 goalie in the world and has all the talent to make it to the top top. Think he definitely fits the bill as a De Gea replacement if it came to that with a similar skillset pure goalkeeping wise, though definitely less good at saving longshots (where De Gea saves even the unsaveable ones), and an improvement in "modern" goalkeeping aspects

Cheers mate, seems like someone we will have a eye on. Eventhough he made errors coming off his line, I admire the proactive nature of his style. Think he'll be a world class keeper with a good all round game before long.

Romero and Henderson are both good goalkeepers. Start with Romero and gradually introduce Henderson to LC FA Cup and some 'easier' league games.

What about Kasper Schmeichel. He is 32 years old, which would give Henderson some more time to grow to be our first team GK in the future. Kasper is a real leader on the field and he has huge experience from PL

Norwegian league was used as an example. Andre Hansen is a better goalkeeper than Olsen.

Oh, a Norwegian who talks up his league and players. I'm shocked. The lad isn't even in the national team squad (and you are shit). But I'm sure he's better!

We have much more pressing issues in other areas of the pitch to p*ss away €100m on a GK. If De Gea wants to leave, use that money towards improving CB, RB, MF (especially with Herrera leaving!). Can we not see how Romero does for a season?

I’m in two minds. On one hand I love DDG. But part of me thinks if our defence wasnt crud we wouldnt need a goalkeeper to pull of 6 massive saves a match?

Go with Romero, spend the money on outfield players - if we add the £100m+ to the £200m+ we have anyway then even in today's market we should be able to address our 'problem' positions (CB, RB, AMR, CM)

He has declined being part of the national team (to some degree because it is sh*t). And if you read my post again you will see that i in no way praise the Norwegian league, but use it as a reference for how well/bad i think Olsen has been for Roma this season (Not that it helps with Jesus and Manolas in front of him).
Andre Hansen is the only player of some ability in the league, that is not an up and coming youngster.
And he is the only person/element i praised in my post.

A club with aspirations of being the best in the world again - would not have Romero as their goalkeeper. De Gea on the other hand, matches those ambitions.

If we think we need more pressing issues about other positions and don't want to spend on a new keeper then make Romero the no 1. He's been fantasticly solid when called upon even if he didn't play for a long time and I'm sure he'd be a solid first choice keeper at least if given chance. We also have Grant as his backup and good prospects like Pereira & Henderson.

If we're willing to spend for a new keeper then pay Kepa money for Oblak and be done with it. De Gea + cash for him maybe?

Let Romero be the goalie for a few seasons until Henderson is better than him. Or buy Oblak.
