Posts that annoy you during transfer windows

When people say we should terminate the contracts of valuable assets because they had a few bad games last season, as if that’s a realistic way to run any football club.

Pick any random halfway promising youth player that posters have latched on to and you'll find a ton of "Why are we selling Josh Harrop/Ben Pearson/Tom Thorpe, we're going to regret this." Whenever we sell a halfway promising youth player who couldn't quite nail down a place in the team we get this ridiculous overrating of average players. Since we brought Pogba back we sometimes get this variation: "it's going to be frustrating buying this guy back for £80 mil in a few years". I saw a ton of this with James Garner in particular last summer.

The club is almost never proven wrong with the youth players they let go yet we keep hearing this second guessing. We're going to hear the exact same thing if the likes of Shoretire, Hannibal, Iqbal, or Laird leave without ever making a first team impact even though it'll probably be the right decision.

The In/Out lists that include selling 7-8 players with 3 year contracts on 150k a week.

This frustrates me too. Also if you go into any thread about our starting XI 3-5 years from now, you'll see nothing but lineups that include several of these players - even though in reality they'll be more likely to start for QPR or Inverness.

When a player who is arguably not quite good enough to play for United is dubbed "Championship level", as if there's not several levels of quality between being a Champions League club and being in the next division down.

The phrase "walk away".

Because the key to building and maintaining a reputation as people you want to be negotiating with is acting like a petulant child.

God the amount if people on here annoyed we sold Garner for £15m...the guy couldn't even start for a terrible Everton. That was good business for us.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised but it is amusing how overrated every academy player becomes by our own fans, even the ones that clearly aren't good. Even from a strictly odds perspective, we are doing fantastic to produce one good contributor every couple of years.

Oh man we can't forget the Angel Gomes meltdown around here. That one was epic.

Anything that mentions a current suspended Utd employee being the next coming of messiah and how desperately you need him back. It's like all of the stuff about him never happened. Madness

The Ryan Tunnicliffe meltdown was great too. Lots of posters genuinely convinced he was destined to be the next Paul Scholes.

Ended up becoming just another generic lower league journeyman.

‘Tier this, tier that’, ‘you can’t post him, he’s banned’, ‘if this doesn’t happen now we will know he’s a pure bullshitter and should be banned’ and anything else of that ilk.

‘A well run club would have done x, y, z by now’.

‘Knowing our board we will probably x, y, z’.

And any team perceived to have ‘won the transfer window’.

I feel like all posts in this transfer forum are a bit pointless until the ownership is sorted or at least a clear preferred bidder. Could we not close the forum until then as we aren’t going to be able to do anything until then.

I do feel for journalist some times (only some!). If they are told something is happening, it can be 100% true, then fall apart at the last minute after which clubs keep it hush hush and journalists look like they made it up.

This is a common sense approach you are taking. It’s because so many young man childs are so tightly wound and invested in these transfers that once a journo ‘promises’ them something that doesn’t happen, they become heartbroken and lash out, calling for the journo to be completely censored in the future.

If only people were a bit more cautioned in the first place and mindful that even a report in good faith does not guarantee anything in a fluid market and one with various agendas at play - it would help. Also, lies, truth - there is a finite amount of time in the window. It won’t take forever to find out who moves where anyway.

The people that think because a player is free or has 6 months on their contract suddenly becomes a better player because they're free.

Sign Tielemans, Ndicka, Thuram, the other day I saw someone mention Kante ffs.

1. “We just need to sign 5 world class players”

2. “If we get rid of [fringe player who started 8 games last season] we have to spend 40m on a replacement”.

3. “I would sign [list of players with transfers fees paid of a fifth of what they would actually realistically cost] and that is us sorted for just 150m”

4. “I would sell [list of our players with transfer fees received of 5x of what we would realistically get] and that is us easily raising 150m”

5. “We need to get rid of [a list of 20 players] in this transfer window”

6. “We do not need him, he would block the development of [a player who will be struggling for game time in Championship in 2 years].

7. “Omg, what we were thinking buying all this crap players that we are now struggling to to get rid of [history of posts includes enthusiastically cheering each and every of our signings]

8. Why cannot we be as quick and smart in transfer market as [clubs who haven’t even signed anyone in the window yet and whose last X big name signings flopped].

9. “I do not want us to sign [player nationality]. He will be pushing for Madrid move in a few years if he is any good anyway”

10. “A disaster of a window. We have not strengthened at all, only bought a mediocre overpriced midfielder, whereas our rivals bought great players. We will be lucky to get top four [Club proceeds to win 3 titles in 3 years].
Every post in the Glazer takeover sale thread. Every single one.

I remember when Sancho was going to hamper Greenwood’s development. Worked out really well in the end.

Well our ‘clueless board’ ‘missed out’ on Boubakar Kamara last summer for a start.

The "it's 1st of June and we haven't signed anyone yet, OMG we are all gonna die".
And the "relax, it's only 29th of August, still plenty of time to sign 10 players"

People claiming in depth knowledge of a player to the point where we should definitely spend some huge amount on them. when all they've done is half watch a couple of CL games they played in, or remember that good goal they scored that time, or watched a YouTube compliation. Or even worse, are just jumping on the bandwagon because everyone else says they're good, so they must be good.

Osimhen seems a good example of this. How many people watch Napoli play every week in Serie A? Not an occasional CL game here and there, I mean properly watch them. Week in, week out. Gain a real picture. What are his strengths and weaknesses? How would he fit in with our style of play? How could our style of play change to accomodate his strengths and weakenesses? Can he adapt to different systems? And so on.

The whole Kane or Osimhen thing is really telling. Apparently these are the only two strikers in world football that could improve us, despite the fact that almost anyone would improve us to some degree. All these scouts that have somehow failed to spot a single other attacker of note during their in depth studies of other leagues. And then someone mentions, for example, Muani and that gains traction, then all of a sudden everyone's an expert on him.

I'm not meaning to tar everyone with the same brush, because some people genuinely do these things and do have knowledge. But how can you tell who's posting informed opinion when so many opinions seem to be a copy and paste of whatever the current consensus is?

Let's just buy Brighton's scouting department.

"Why would [insert player] want to join United when he can join/stay at [insert other big club]?"

I don't often consider this a reasonable retort but the correct answer here is "Because we're fecking Manchester United".

Also, I can't really pin it down to one post in particular, but the predictable freak out whenever Liverpool confirm a signing is fecking tiresome.

In all the years I was lurking on this forum, literally the only thing that was entertaining in the transfer threads were the gifs that a couple members used to make

One thing I find annoying is how every time a tweet is posted you'll see an angry mob come out telling us how that journalist is a clueless hack who knows feck all. Like these people get genuinely angry by tweets. Very strange behaviour

"Because we're fecking Manchester United".
Tbh that really annoys me as well sometime. The level of entitlement and denial of reality is just too cringy for my liking.

For me the ones who annoy me the most are the ones who suggest we should sell Rashford (our most prolific goal scorer) or Bruno (basically our single creativity source and our defacto captain). While they don't even have a tiniest idea of who and how much we should and would buy to replace those.

‘Any well run club would have their transfer deals in place before the window opens’.

Basically UEFA are idiots for having a whole 3 month window when well run clubs only need 3 days.

Post of the year contender right here.

This.

Along with calling human beings deadwood or stating that they're crap in general. Sometimes the player is just in the wrong league or team and will do better in a different setup. Sometimes even at Champions League level.

People posting their fantastical laundry list of signings that they think will turn us into title contenders, and then put a couple of the fancy, new £50m+ players a back-ups.

Every post where some absolute clown says something like "just pay the money" or "it's not my money" to talk of fees.
The first one especially when you clearly need more than 1 player and they don't seem to understand, despite us always being like it for 20 years, that we have a distinct budget available, so 20-30m extra curbs other aims.
