Post-match discussion

Agreed , but together most teams would walk through our midfield. He has something to offer this season but I'd love to see Pereira back from Granada next season

I'd rather we play Basti than Fellaini when Carrick is rested.

It seems the loan at Granada has done well for us for a change and will be a good addition next season.

Jose confirms that there is a possibility Ashley young leaves to China in this transfer window. Good bit of business that if happens.

Game changed when Martial went left. Until then the first half was appalling. Basti started controlling the game and we were great.

Second half was a good watch. Loved seeing us counter attack properly and seeing the players play with some swagger.

First half was frustrating, Wigan were very organised and allowed us no time on the ball. Second half and putting Anthony Martial out wide changed the game. I personally much prefer him out wide, he has a much greater effect on the game with his direct running and setting up the second and third goals shows my point.

Game as a whole, I didn't think we got out of second gear if truth be told but we got the job done and are through to the fifth round where a nice tie vs either Lincoln or Sutton would be nice.

That was *a good united win with a very exciting second half . Smaller Teams should fear this kinda scoreline when they come to OT. Order back to OT after 3 seasons of record breaking comeback from smaller Teams in competitions.

First half was crap. I thought there were too many of our players in the middle of the pitch with no *speed *or no off the ball movement *or width. That goal from Fellaini was good, we need to use such options more in games where we struggling to maintain possession or create chances. I'm happy we still have him.

Second half was impressive, probably due to change in tactics from Wigan after we scored the second. Smalling and Mikhi goals were good. Schweinsteiger completed his dream debut this year by completing 90 minutes and getting a goal. Glad to see our academy products get game time too. Who would've thought Mourinho would be capable??

Martial was motm imo for his performance in the second half. Mikhi did ok, so did Mata(I would have liked Lingard instead of Mata there in our set up), Rooney was below par.
Schweinsteiger and Fellaini did well overall. Defence did well except Shaw. Thought he was poor. TFM had a good Cameo.

The fast counter attack resulting in that goal from Mikhi truly reminded me of our good old days.
As someone else posted ' let the unbeaten run continue '

Decent performance by Utd. Ye have a strong squad. Pleased for Schweinsteiger. Class player and handled himself brilliantly since Mourinho came in. Would expect Utd to be potential retainers of the FA Cup.

Bastian is a remarkable person. told by coach at the beginning he's not wanted. Stay, worked hard and now he's back in the squad.

Indeed it's remarkable that he's managed to suffer the hardship of having to work. I was expecting him to rip up his £250k a week contract and walk away.

During the first half, i wrote that "we're not going to batter them after all"..Thankfully, I was proven wrong.

Much much better than the last game (Hull away). First half wasn't too pleasing but the second one was much better. Love the fact that we rested important players and even had few youngsters getting valuable minutes.

Few tricky fixtures coming up now. If we keep this up, we should be alright.

I thought we were largely poor today. Happy with the result. But 4-0 flatters us. This was at home to a Championship side struggling with relegation. They were far more dangerous than us in the first half simply by grit and determination. The Fellaini goal broke there spirit at just the right time for us.

satisfied result. first half performance was like LVG boring football, fortunately big Felly managed to score a goal. 2nd half performance was great. nice assists from Martial and that 3rd goals is beautiful counter-attack goal. Mikhi is my MOTM, very good performance. and hopefully TFM injury is not too serious and he get other chance again.
I think there were some nerves from Mou's line up especially from players trying (too hard) to impress. Took a good 20 min to settle. Lot's of changes, players unfamiliar with each other in a game situation. That, plus a well coached Wigan team that, like most teams at OT, were definitely well up for the match.
2nd half as you say, much more settled and provided the bog standard 4 nil which I think a staggering 12% of us got right :D

I thought Basti was MOTM, he really bossed the midfield and also brings the same calmness and intelligence as Carrick.[/QUOTE]
My choice too ... no real stand outs otherwise for me. After the 1st 20 it was "professional"

Another thing i noticed about having a Carrick/Basti at the base of our midfield it helps Smalling to just concentrate on defending and not worry about passing or coming out of defence with the ball.
Also agree. Took him a while to get into the pace of the game but eventually became that calming influence & got himself a well-deserved goal. Having Felly as a midfield partner can't be easy either, so yeah, well played Basti.

As for Smalling yep, was again steady & reliable. Clearly all the back-four pairings have been directed to be a good defender first. He & Rojo made a good combo & we are at a point now where almost any two can be chosen and relied upon to do a job.

We had 4 shots on goal with 4 scored. Rather see this finishing in front of goal than the wastefulness we've seen so far this season.

A man decides to attend work and in exchange picks up a huge salary. What a remarkable man.

Was this Wigan team a lot worse than the Hull team we played? I am not too sure.

Yet we comprehensively won today. The difference was a good mixture of players.

First half an hour was bad tbh but steadily we grew into the game and some of the stuff we played in the 2nd was sexy.

So glad for Schweini, he must be considered as a option for the games in which we rest our first team mids or to come in instead of them when things are not going good.

Glad for TFM and Tuanzebe to get their minutes too.

All in all a nice Sunday.

We're not Chelsea. We get ripped off buying and ripped off selling.

Surprised if it's £5m

Agreed, we'll probably let him go for free to reward his years of service.

And forget that he'll be one of the few players, perhaps only player bar Ronaldo to actually walk into way more money on leaving us!

We've sold well under Mourinho so far.

I don't we've ever sold well (even under Jose).

Only the Ronaldo deal comes to mind and in hindsight he went on the cheap.

I think we could have got more for Memphis and Morgan

We must have been shite for the first 30 minutes, because I tuned in for the final hour and thought we played rather well.

Morgan had a good price given all the circumstances.
Memphis' worth really fell down after his performances so it's a normal price I think.
