Post-match discussion

Defensive line was good this week.

Good to see one player did not play them onside.

Three great goals and by some miracle we kept a clean sheet. Spurs looked dismal but I'm still shocked we spanked them that badly.

But, at this point, it's really nice seeing a match like that.

I am hoping Ole lost this, but still happy we won this with a clean sheet.

Ole is still at the wheel

Try and think of it as if we win games we are getting three points and remove Ole from the equation. If we do inevitably lose a game then you can also see that as a potential opportunity that Ole will finally go.. so win win. Don’t get to down about it all... whatever will be will be and you get to just enjoy the wins as they come.
Its the performance that bothers me. I thought we were pretty poor despite the result. I'm happy we got the win (very happy) but i dont see much to be positive about going forward. I dont see any future past the next 2 games with the formation and set up we used today, I dont even have much optimism of it not being taken apart in our next 2 games.

Spurs were shite today. Varane back=win, just sayin'. Our form went to shite when he was injured. Alas, 3 points, 3 goals, clean sheet. On to Atalanta. Still a long way to go, and I'm not sure that Ole is our man, sadly.

I’m not going to lie and say I’m optimistic of the long term hopes of this side but what’s the point of emotionally getting all burnt out by it. Just be apathetic - let it unfold and logic dictates that eventually Ole will go and almost certainly this season unless he pulls off a miracle in which case that will probably be something worth celebrating in of itself ie a shock trophy.

Can't really agree. We looked strong in central and deep areas but we never had them pinned back for any meaningful length of time.

Before the first goal (39'), we had more passes on their Mid and Final third (Target Zone). We had 5 key passes to their 2 (Pass Type). We both had 5 shots, but all of us from open play, compare to them 4 shots from set pieces.

But you could be right, though.

you hoped Manchester United lost a game? Is redcafe needing to keep up the numbers with these newbies?

newbies ?!?!? just because I rarely comment ? Should all Newbies in this forum get ban ? Laughable !!

Read my comment carefully

Conte frontrunner to replace Ole, Ole plays a 3-5-2......mad lad.

but in all seriousness a good win. Even though he's still obsessed with Mcfred and we need good midfielders for a 3-5-2 to work, i'm happy with a clean sheet and the forwards firing.

No idea what this means in terms of eventual replacement but if we can string a coherent 90 mins together at least that's something. The title race is dead, but i guess now the replacement path comes down to:

1. Short term improvement means the replacement will be a longer term one
2. Spurs game is an aberration, we get tonked 5-0 by City, they bite the bullet and go Conte.

I am a portuguese Man Utd fan since that magnificent day in 1999. Ronaldo has only made my passion bigger. This is my first post in this forum and I only wanted to say: come on United!!! What a game today.
Well said!

Happy we won but christ I hate playing with a back 5. Aside from lots of reasons, gonna have attacking young talent parked on the bench. Makes the Sancho signing look even more stupid.....

Don't tell Donny

Welcome! I share in your celebration!

If you are happy with what we served up today against a zombie Spurs side that lack the get out of jail free cards we have, then cool, the longer we continue with Ole the games are meaningless, we'll win some as we have so many talented attackers, but not enough as Ole and his coaches have done nothing with the attack and the defensive answer they've came up with is a back 7 that became a back 8 for the last 20 minutes, there's nothing sustainable about that, it's the road to lots of draws against teams that are actually awake.
You’re good fun I’d say

Anybody else think that we were pretty shite despite the result? Spurs didn't help, but I thought the performance was flat and we were careless with the ball. Great goals and 3 needed points, but everything is not suddenly rosy as far as I'm concerned. Bigger tests to come.

I dont think we were shite. We were good but definitely helped by how poor Spurs are. If Spurs are considered a top 6 team then they should of been relishing playing us but they are in the same position as us. They are underperforming and the manager is under pressure.

I thought we were good and tactically we were sound which is credit to the manager but this doesn’t change my opinion on Ole not being good enough.

People dont want managers that play with 3 at the back and yet Ole used it and it worked. Maybe we should just stick with what works in games and be flexible.

Out of interest, what exactly makes you say that? Genuine question.

We were away from home to a big 6 side so we were never going to be completely dominant then add in the fact we are coming off our worst loss I can ever remember.
Spurs might of been poor but we worked as a team defending well. DeGea didn’t do much considering he’s been one of our best this season while conceding loads. We took our chances, it was a perfect away performance.

It doesn’t change my opinion on Ole and I’m not saying it was a dominant performance but it was a perfect away one. If we weren’t so bad the last few weeks and near the top people be talking about how good that was.

But that's just it, mate. You are qualifying the game by saying that it's not bad when you consider that we are coming off the liverpool game. I would say that's not the point. That game as a spectacle was not good, imo. We had patches of good play, but a lot of it was distinctly average. I was also disappointed by the subs we made, Rashford aside. Anyhow, time will tell if this is the beginning of something or just another false dawn.

Thanks for replying. I understood, you liked that we bounced back and that we were defensively solid while finishing our (few) chances. Valid stance, don't see anything wrong with it. Only thing would be me questioning why you decided to mention the tactics. But I guess, you meant staying compact and be ready for counters. I get that, fyi when I am talking about tactics, I expect something a bit more specific than "stay compact and finish your counters". Writing it, it sounds like a slight dig, but be assured it isn't meant like that. It is just me realizing that so many people mean so many different things when using a few words which in the end of the day shows how stupid it is to be triggered in some situation I find myself in so often :)

Yeah but no matter if we are top or 10th a 3-0 win away at Spurs is always a good result. I never said we were great on the eye but he defended as a team and worked hard the took our chances which was a perfect away performance.
I’m not deluded to think it wasn’t due to Spurs being shite but still it was good

To be fair I’ve been Ole out for a bit and the reason I said the compact and defensively sound as a good thing is this season more than not I literally don’t know what we do be trying to do on the pitch and it seems we look disjointed not working as a team.
It might of not been excellent but we worked and did so as a unit which was nice to see. Still don’t think Ole is up too it and the fact im crediting him for us looking compact when that should be a given each week is over the top but it’s better than the last few weeks

just caught the highlights as it was on a stupid time for me

that Ronaldo goal was a thing of beauty

seemed like we played pretty well from what I saw

We weren't shite, but it wasn't the masterclass some are painting it as. 3-0 massively flattered us. It kind of reminds me when Tottenham won 3-0 at Old Trafford I think in Mourinho's final season? Where that was labeled a masterclass by Tottenham, but 3-0 massively flattered them.

That was probably mctom. You can't honestly believe fred had a good game? He was dispossessed numerous times esp in the second half which lead to impotent spurs attacks. He was weak and flimsy on the ball. Nothing in his performance surprised me. Runs around a lot but that's not good enough.
⭐ Fred: 8.1

Fred went about his business of breaking up attacks throughout the match and his performance was one of his best since joining the club.

He was able to shrug off a silly yellow card and remain the dominant force up against Hojbjerg and NDombele in the centre of the pitch.

Can anyone find any more detailed stats for Fred's performance today.

That's a fair assessment. This week will be interesting. He has to persist with the 352 now, surely? I wonder how long the change of tactic will last and what it will mean for players like Sancho who may struggle to find a place in the system.
