FA W FA Cup 5th Round

Shrewsbury 0:3 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Give LvG a new 5 year contract. Now if we could play Shrewsbury every week, that would be something.

I feel like I miss every game now due to work. Stop putting games midweek! At least we're still in the cup, not that you can really read anthing into this result.

Shrewsbury were dreadful. They should have had a real go. We were vulnerable before kick off.

We should have won about 7-1. Poor finishing once again. I'd love to see a compilation of our missed chances and sitters in May.

Most teams are vulnerable before kick off for various reasons such as lack of warm up and poor formation but the rules state that you can't take advantage of the situation and score until the first whistle is blown.

pretty boring in here atm if. If we lose there is panic, if we win it was 'only' such a team.

there aren't any games we are entitled to win, as we should have learned this week.

How was Varela?

I watched some highlights and we didn't look that great...it was more Shrewsbury being a League One side that I think tilted the scales in our favour.

West Ham could easily do us in the next round...

Din't see the game, just caught the extended highlights. Shrewsbury were woeful. All 3 goals were a touch lucky I have to see. We need to beat Mitchellin and beat Arsenal. That's were the real test is. I reckon van Gaal might be negative against Arsenal after that 3-0 drubbing.

I guess this will give LVG some more credit so he can comfortably be beaten by Arsenal and still retain his job.

Should be happy the team wins a game. But I honestly dont care anymore. Wont be the start of a run but another false dawn again that saves his ass. Just want to see the dutchman sacked asap.

I only watched the first half but must admit we hardly put a feet wrong.
Very pleased with Schneiderline who broke most of their counters in their own half.

I hope we can take this win as a platform to build on...something tells me that's the only win we are getting this week.

There was a massive gulf in class between the sides.

Any premier league side would've beat them with ease.

So yeah, Van Gaal still out.

I think even Aston Villa might have got the result against this lot. A mandatory win which changes nothing. And as I've read, LVG knows this.

Probably the same people who (wishfully) thought it would be a difficult game are now saying how poor Shrewsbury is. They are poor, but apart from a bit more precision, invention and finishing there's not much United could have done better. Away game in the 5th round (Shrewsbury must have done some things right to get there), a comfortable 0-3, could have been more. Just a good result and a good match.

I'm very glad not to have another embarrassment on our hands, but it's surely too little too late to save him? Prooving you've built a team capable of beating another team 2 leagues lower, but not many in the same league as you is not good enough to keep your job I'm afraid. I'm sympathetic of LvG, but this result surely can't have any effect on Woody's opinion of him, can it?

I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a team as bad as Shrewsbury. Our players seemed to have so much time and space on the ball, it was actually quite weird to watch. That said, it can still be difficult to break down a shit team when they have everyone behind the ball. I'd say that we simply met expectations, which is fine, but it doesn't prove anything.

Crikey, just watching the highlights and noticed Larnell Cole on their bench; I really thought he'd make a decent premier league player.

Also, all the recent games I've missed; 3-1, 1-1, 3-0 and now 3-0 :nervous:

Not going to watch the next one!

The one thing I noticed from the comfortable win is how many of our passes are just a little inaccurate. We make the receiver stretch so often or the weight of the pass is too hard for the occasion. The one player who was the worst IMO was Herrera, especially with his one touch passes back. So many times the pass was bouncy, hard, or a little to the side. I don't see how a professional like him and others can't make a good cushion pass with the right pace and accuracy. Our technical skills are lacking and I'm not sure if the reason is the training or the talent.

Our performance was a bit choppier than I expected but clubs like this are sometimes hard to break down and we've of course been woeful for most of the season.

Varela looked good, good enough to suggest Darmian might have a fight on his hands to claim the right back spot next season.
