I know I do. It's not as though they haven't all given us plenty of reason to believe in the past (albeit at a different club with Mikhi)

I too think players like Mata, Mkhitaryan, Martial and Rashford can play brilliant football and clearly belongs in title winning teams.

I'm just not entirely sure they'll be given the platform to prove that though, to be honest. Which is a feeling that's been nagging me for a while.

Its simple , More posession more chances high press more control. Lvg set up the foundation, This was a huge year to buid it on and mourinho is breaking it.

Whats with you and your LVG foundation posts all the time? The only foundations LVG laid are in your head

Real Madrid dont count in your reckoning then? Are West Ham going to have the same control over the game on sunday?

I can see his point though in some ways.

We again showed a shocking lack of composure in front of goal. It was overall a night of positives though.

No we don't. Mourinho has set up some of the best ever counter-attacking teams and they didn't play posession football. There is absolutely no chance we can play posession football against a team that is greatly superior to us in just about every position on the pitch.

Their midfield would play us off the park if we allowed them.

The philosophical battle will always be lost and more and more chances this happens every time in ucl latter stages. This is the new revolution in football , you cant not fight against principles of football, Swimming against the tide is always harder.

Yeah. Only reason we dominated at the end was Madrid's lack of fitness

If Real don't stop having longer vacations then everyone else they could lose alot of titles in this time of the year. luckily last year they played a team who sold to many players and bought new ones in Sevilla and they also start pre-season really late hence you could argue fitness was pretty much the same.

They are also lucky that Barca have started the pre-season late and always do but just imagine if Barca is in fitness and form? They could trash Real madrid like they did back in 2015 with 4-0.

Even without Neymar but I do reckon barca losing Neymar was a huge boost for everyone in the UCL.

Real madrid lost to MLS-allstars in pre-season that was the lowest they hit that people and most of their fans actully had Man utd as favorite to win this match.. That is how bad their match fitness was going into this match

The result flattered us more than RM. Jose should just give up on Mkhitaryan. I'm afraid we're going to have to rely on Fellactics again this season. Rashford looked good. He should start until we buy better.
Bailly and Jones for CB pairing to start the season for me.

Well, for a start, that 1v1 that Rashford squandered he should've scored. He's scored harder chances. That was just bottling it. At some stage players who say they can do it for United have to actually do it. We can't keep talking about 'potential.'
Bottling it is a little harsh but I agree with the rest of your post.

That miss was a lacking composure and felt like him wanting to make sure he got somewhat of a shot off. He needs to be better in front of goal.

Terrible performance, not to sure how people see positives from that. Even without Ronaldo we didn't look like we could win at any point.
Not terrible. They had that spell where we couldnt catch them but overall it was decent. Not to mention we had 2 good chances to score and the same amount of shots in the end.

Sorry, meant that I can't see Scholes on telly as I'm in Norway but agree with that.

So ignorant i would say. Every big team in football plays total football in posession now and off it and it has the edge and you can not fight against the principles

Often when we attack, a midfielder walks with the ball, our wings are behind a fullback, and our striker is between two cb's, the other two midfielders are walking next to, or behind the one with the ball.
When other top teams attack, they have fast players running in all directions, to create space for each other, and the one carrying the ball, is actually running too.

I find this very frustrating to watch, do they not want to get forward and score?

How can professional footballers not know how to take a fecking throw in?
It is not hard at all....

Ref blew the whistle before time in both halves, would probably not change the result, but it is annoying! "Minimum x minutes of injury time" - it's supposed to be.

Not a single pundit has managed to pick this up and highlight in a program. Its secretly one of our biggest problem as a team - the lack of running we do to give the player on the ball options.

Madrid surprised me positively. I thought that after the so bad pre-season it would cost them to enter into the game. However they gradually got the initiative and set their pace.
United have to improve but they didn´t do so badly.
The only thing I did not like - and one of the reasons why I did not like Mourinho in Madrid - was the attitude so passive, defensive, at the beginning of the second half.
With those players is possible to play much better.
Pogba is very good but he has to improve in the decision making.
The left back was absent. Actually I could not tell who played. I liked Rashford.

I thought Bale was very quiet, other than that bad miss when he hit the bar.

If it's a straight fight between him and Isco to get in the Madrid team then Bale is in trouble.

It's that kind of performance we are used to against big teams in recent years. We are not able to keep possesion or create a nice game to watch, I know it's our first game, but then again I know this is going to happen again in the Premier League or CL. Gutted we couldn't get more out of it since we had our chances to score.

Then again, the thing that got in my mind and made me angry, like really angry is that Jose gave his silver medal to fans. This is not Chelsea, this is the biggest club in the world and you shouldn't be allowed to do that. He has to accept that he hasn't won it and he has to accept that he's not bigger then the club here, he has to take that medal and stand behind his teams performance. The club should fine him.

Wait... What?

Observations in this game.
We played against the best team in the world.
We were second best easily in the first half after the first 10 minutes.
The 1st half water break saved us from further damage.
The second half was much better especially after Fellaini came on. I will never disrespect him again.
Rashford is still no better than his first season. He missed a sitter, and basically did f uck all.
We are not playing to Lukakus strengths.
Pogba is a fine player but needs to know when to pass the ball, instead of trying to be Messi.
Matic will be a fantastic player for us.
De Gea is top 2 best goalie in the world with Neuer.
Saying this we are now a physical team and will win a lot more games than last season against most of the Premier teams.
After City and Spurs I think we now have the best squad in the Premier. If we can get a LB or LWB in before the transfer window shuts, to the standard of Valencia at least, we will finish top 2.

So LVG laid foundations for all the big teams?

really depressing how defensive we set out again.... but hey thats Mourinho

some positives though, Darmian had a good game, De Gea again showed why he is so imprtant to us, matic was decent considering he isnt 100%, and Lukaku scored.

Negatives, Lindelof looks like he isn't ready to be a first team player yet, and pogba for me was poor, plus looks like we still have an issues that we have no decent wingers on either side.

Eased off ?

We're talking about a team who slaughtered the best defense in the world 4-1 in the CL final. We were the one who became better in the last 30 minutes that's it.

Fitness wise we are ahead in the preparation. Carvajal for example was visibly tired. At the deep end of the season that will not happen.

Face palm.

Just not true.

You haven't watched Real madrid pre-season then. Many players arrived mid pre-season camp plus they lost to MLS allstars........ They were just out of it fitness wise

Mourinho has survived without LVG's 'foundations' at Chelsea, Porto, Inter and Madrid. I'm sure he can manage us without this imaginary foundations you 'enlightened' ones keep talking about. Your the delusional one here, constantly harping about foundations laid by a manager everybody wanted gone despite winning a trophy because of the soul destroying football he brought here.

Not a single pundit has managed to pick this up and highlight in a program. Its secretly one of our biggest problem as a team - the lack of running we do to give the player on the ball options.

It has been like that for a while, including the last 2-3 years of SAF.
It's what annoys me most when watching us play, but i have never seen anyone point it out.
I see it in every match we play... wonder how it can be such a secret

Fitness wise we are ahead in the preparation. Carvajal for example was visibly tired. At the deep end of the season that will not happen.

Why don't we just get a credit for a good 30 minutes ? Why is the reason for us playing well is the opposite team not good enough/eased off/not fit enough but when we play terrible it's because the opposite team is the best ever ?

It seems the problem is always in us. When we play bad it's because we're shite. When we play well it's because the opposite team eased off. It's never because we played well, I don't like that.

We played a very well 30 minutes and could have equalized if Rashford and Lukaku took their chances well enough.

LVG is responsible for the worst football I've ever seen us play. Thank christ we got rid.

There was nothing good about what the two eyes could see, so these mentalists came up with 'foundations' which were somehow going to make us look good in 5 years no matter how shite it made us look at present

So LVG laid foundations for all the big teams?

Pep has taken it forward , zidane is playing absolutely the same , same with bayern barcelona city and hate to say it but also liverpool.

How hard it is to play from the back? to pass it sideways and back wards in a high press? to put creative widemen on the wings ?

Lumping it long everytime when one should create? keeping creative players on the bench? Drop deep rather than pressing high is asking for trouble against those sides.

Its simple , More posession more chances high press more control. Lvg set up the foundation, This was a huge year to buid it on and mourinho is breaking it.
FFS VG era was shit stop mentioning him. Mourinho had to break it. If Vg was any good he would have still been here

We need creative Wingers.
